I think it would work better with C3 PO, the main reason why You’re my only hope is good with yoda is because you get to chose among the cards in your hand which one goes back on top, Which means you can actually make it pretty consistent , with han3 it's a very different story, it's purely opportunity base which is unlikely to be viable competitively.

I'm disappointed that the starter decks didn't get a full symmetrical cycle. Was really expecting a green heroism leader v blue villainy, to finish the cycle off, and then do other products. Cool archetypes either way!

I can see some pretty crazy combinations with the Boba Leader, even with cards that already exist, P-38 has been a very popular card in set 3, and there is also any when defeated deal damage trigger which are cheap, then every burn card, give in to your anger is an unplayed card that now deals 2 damage(1 indirect) for 1 and functionally gives a unit sentinel and controls an opponents turn. Then getting a mini OB on deploy is quite interesting as well.

Ok two important things to keep in mind in regards to evaluating the playability of Boba's ability: - As explained in the video an indirect damage is not the same as an extra damage, not even close. - You need to compare with what currently exist, Jango fett also give you value for dealing damage to things, excepted that exhasuting an enemy unit is FAR more impactful that dealing an indirect damage.

I think that in early game Jango's ability is fairly easy to play around, if you have initiative and attempt to tap down their unit by playing yours you are either behind or you risk trading the ability to attack with your unit to tap theirs. Late game playing a 3 cost unit to tap down their 7-9 cost unit is still bad value because it doesn't kill their unit or stop them from playing another. I think you can pretty surely add 4-6 extra damage per game from the leader ability, plus an extra 4 from the flip, getting one attack off is minimum 7 likely damage. Looking at 12 damage hitting the board from your leader (4+4+4) is a quite good proposition even if 4 of it is sub optimal, he cleans that up when he deploys. I was initially slightly over hyped because I missed that he must exhaust. I still think this ability to put extra damage out is quite powerful.

That’s what everyone said when set 2 dropped too, but it hasn’t played out. In certain matchups it’s amazing but unit removal is always more useful when you can remove cards AND their upgrades all at once.

@@ReallyBigBadAndy76so defeat an upgrade is going to be removal in this set. Cards like confiscate, aggression, disabling fang fighter defeat upgrades which defeats the leaders that have been shown for this set. For set 2 it was cause people thought bounties would be better than they are

@matthewr1019 It will depends on how much play those pilot cards , but we know at least that chewbacca will be. @ReallyBigBadAndy76 Upgrade removal definitely became more popular in set 2 that's the main reason why people stopped playing traiterous (despite this card still being very good).

Sweet analysis! The pilot keyword on Chewie says play as an upgrade, does that mean you can return chewie to your hand if you play something that lets you grab an upgrade from you discard? Inversely, can you play Home1 and bring Chewie as a pilot on Home1? Maybe some crazy shinangins? 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s probably a unit that CAN be played as an upgrade, meeting the cost. I doubt we can play it’s Piloting cost while using U-Wing Reinforcement for example, or take it back in hand with the Razor Crest from the discard pile since it will be treated as a unit.

I totally agree with chewy being meta! Saw it and instantly knew big boon for green hero, I can see this in a Sabine deck at the top end and will make it better into a control match up

Might be a bit slow for Sabine but yeah the card is amazing. Nice to finally get some good green/white card, green/white was pretty bad in both set 2 and 3.

With No Disintegrations, I’d love to see a BT-1 red villain leader with a Bossk unit type ability that read something “When you play an event: You may exhaust this unit. If you do, you may deal 1 damage to a unit”. Would make “No Disintegrations” a lot stronger and would be a very thematic combo for BT-1. 😆 Presumably Han’s leader ability makes him another good candidate for “You’re my only hope”? Great video (as always). This set already looks a lot of fun.

Indirect damage (as well as piloting) is a mechanic taken directly from Star wars destiny. In destiny even if the opponent still chooses, it is a very strong mechanic for the way the game works. Here, given that you have always the option to choose base as well as any unit with potentially a lot of health, either you deal insane amounts of indirect damage or I don't see it being too impactful

No disintegration has some use for Bossk as well as Vader ... and you might use it on your own grit unit to create a massive attack. I think it is a wider niche than you're thinking.

@@Zombane it's strong if it happens but there are plenty of counters ,your opponent has a window to simply kill firespray before leader gets deployed and leader upgrade gets countered by upgrades removal.

It has been confirmed by the designers on X (Tyler Parrot) that upgrade removal will work on upgrade leaders (or any pilot for that matter). I think even with that in mind, I think pilot leaders have a chance to see competitive play, but I don't think there will be "top tier" because there are too easy to counter if they become too prevalent.

Yeah, it doesn't have as many L rarity bombs, the power ceiling may be a bit lower, but with Set 3 leaders dominating competitive play, and many commons/uncommons becoming essential components of many of the top tier decks, describing the power level overall as "particularly weak" just sounds ignorant.

@@Trance2400 Well I completly disagree, I think set 3 is extremely weak and all the top player I train with (and there are a lot) agree with me so, we're all ignorant then? If you look at the proportion of set 3 cards in all competitive deck it's going to be around 12% which is less than half of what it should be if all 3 sets were about equal in powerlevel. You also need to take into account that people are still a bit biased as they want to try the new stuff, so you can even expect this number to go down overtime as we aim toward the PQ season. About the leader the set only brought 2 leaders that have a significant impact on the meta (2.5 if you count yoda), which is once again less than what it should be if all 3 sets were about equal in powerlevel. But if you take a closer look you will realize that even for those 2 leaders there is some caveat to that: I can guarantie you that Jango would not see any significant play if Boba1 was still legal, Anakin is very popular atm (new leader , iconic character) but he is still neck and neck with other leaders like Rey in that specific slot, if he didn't exist Rey red would simply replace him and that would not make a big difference in the meta landscape. So in other word the Boba1 ban had more impact on the meta than set 3. If Boba1 was still legal the meta would be the exact same as set 2 with a few new cards sprinkled here and there.

@@Thorrk_THT Anakin, Jango, Yoda, Quinlin, Maul, Asajj, Rex, new Palp, 52.26% of the OPE Birmingham was Set 3 leaders. You're right, the representation of Set 3 cards was low, but so was the Set 2 representation. What they have in common is that they are overshadowed by Set 1, which still represents 60.3% of the cards played in the top 100 decks. Again, yes, it comes across ignorant to claim that Set 3 is weak, rather than seeing that Set 1 established too high of a power standard to maintain long term. Which is probably why we're seeing information about rotation coming, we'll see how things are once Set 1 isn't in premier.
