Though this movie is not "perfect", I honestly think this is one of the greatest movies I've ever seen in my life. It is a full and complete story with excellent acting, scenes that are COMPLETE and make sense, and choices and consequences that actually naturally flow within the story. Again - one of the greatest.

I was 21 doing taxes; walked into work one day and heard my boss talking about another coworker who had come back to work there. “I see why he needed to come back!” The coworker was a professional Latin guy who also sold real estate, he was quirky and reminded me of Phil Dunphy😂 really likable type, so I couldn’t understand why he would sit and talk about him that way. I quit soon after, wasn’t able to not see boss as a snake. The feeling was beyond uncomfortable. Luther is a lot of employers, cheat, steal and disrespect for no reason.

Fun fact: TT’s character in the original script is a teenager that’s a mother. Brandy was supposed to be cast as TT, but her mom/manager said hell no lol. Never a dull moment in this movie, when it wasn't giving us shoot outs and car chases, it was giving us drama, romance, sex, a Dr. Dre cameo and a God father impression scene. My thoughts continue Secondly, there were two characters I consider parallel to each other and I wonder if how their stories ended was a missed opportunity I'm talking about Viviva A Fox's character "Frankie's and Blair Underwood's character "Keith" The movie opens with Frankie doing her job as a teller in a bank, attending to customers one after the other 30 minutes to closing when she recognised the next customer in line from the old neighbourhood, she greeted him with a warm smile saying "I didn't know you had an account with us" unfortunately the young man repaid her warmth with the cold steel of his revolver, he ordered her to hand over money but she raised her hands and started beggin him with tears. The robber proceeded to shoot a customer before her then Frankie was covered in blood, the rest of the gang revealed themselves took control of the hall, grabbed money from the other tellers then exchanged fire with the guards, all including the robber that Frankie knew were killed except one that shot his way out with a bag of money The police interviewed Frankie in the presence of her bosses still covered in an unfortunate customer' blood and blames her for freezing up rather than remembering her training. Her bosses fired her immediately merely for the optics around her knowing one of the robber's, the rest is history Next up we have Keith, also a bank except that he is in corporate banking and works upstairs in a bigger bank than Franki. One day he decided to stretch his legs by strolling down to the banking hall. He then saw Jada Pinkett's character "Stoney" , she was actually there to case the bank as an early stage of planning a robbery. He approached her like a regular customer service rep and asked If she would like to open an account, after al brief exchange he confessed that he had no idea what these bankers do down here, that he works upstairs. They exchanged information then she left Stoney and Keith had their first date in her part of town to let her know that he is real nigga, it went well. By the time Stoney and her gang had taken down two banks and was waiting for an appropriate time to leave town, Keith invites her to a dinner where he is going to represent his boss. She met him at his place in the wrong outfit so he had the limo take them to a boutique andl got her a wonderful dinner dress, she was a stand out at the party, he introduced her to everyone and she held her own in sophisticated conversation. It was a very successful date and was crowned with a happy ending. One find day Keith was at work in a meeting where the police gave them, the top brass a presentation about the resent robberies in the area, including CCTV of the robberies. Keith recognised Stoney on the projector but kept it to himself. Meanwhile Stoney's retirement plan went up in flames as the last money they stole was also stolen from them, so her and the gang decided to hit Keith's big bank, so she called Keith to meet her in a diner that she had something important to tell him. So Keith left the bank as Stoney, Frankie and the gang came to rob the place but unfortunately had to shoot their way out Cut to the end all the girls except Stoney died, she eventually made it to Mexico, there she phoned Keith to apologize to him and asked if his alright. He received the call in his office, he didn't lose his job even though he met with one of the robber's in the bank, was seen with her in a bank event and was conveniently absent during the robbery while they fired Frankie because of optics What I regard as a missed opportunity, is if the film started with Frankie, a black woman banker getting fired in the beginning of the movie and Keith, a black male banker getting fired at the end as both of them knew at least one of their robbers, a full circle moment of sorts. At the end I guess it's a commentary on classism, as Keith has a squeaky clean upper middle class background,. attended the best schools and probably graduated with honours landing him a juicing position far away from the likes of Frankie that struggled to get out of the hood through a less than ivy league education and started at the bottom of the bank. Frankie being involved with a guy from the hood that so happens to be a bank robber is to be expected but Keith slumming it with a local girl that happens to be an armed robber was just a harmless fling. My final thoughts will be on the motivations of Frankie and Queen Latifah's to die rather than go to jail

I feel like Frankie would have survived if she and Stoney didn't split up. I always wanted to know why Cleo, TT and Frankie decided to hide the money at their job. They should have hidden the money at Stoney's house or stash it in the wall or the floor at the garage where Cleo lived. TT never would have lost her son if she didn't sit her son on the floor near the cleaning supplies. She should have sat him somewhere up high and gave him a toy to play with. Sitting him on the floor with nothing to keep him occupy so of course naturally he would have end up crawling away as soon as TT turned her back. Originally, Brandy was supposed to play TT, but she turned it down because the role didn't fit her wholesome image at the time. I wonder what the role would have been like had Brandy took it. Fun fact: that wasn't Jada in the sex scene with Blair Underwood. Blair Underwood did an interview revealing secrets about some of his well known roles. He said that the sex scene in Set It Off was done with a body double.

I love your music breaks in your reviews. The soundtrack for this movie,🔥. Since they didn’t include Up against the Wind on the soundtrack, I had to hunt down the score in order to have the song! Worth the money, worth the time. My bestie and I saw this movie. When Girls Trip referenced Set it Off, it was a full circle moment for me and my forever friend.

I love how you analyse and review movies - these are the kind of conversations I have with my sister when it comes to film. You had me laughing hard during this review, but you pushed me over the edge when you started singing destiny's child! Had me cryinggg 🤣🤣

The Set It Off soundtrack is amazing and dope as Brandy, Tamia, Gladys Knight and Chaka Kahn, Organized Noize featuring Queen Latifah, Bone Thugs -N- Harmony, En Vogue and Ray J all contributed with songs that had music videos made for them

I haven't watched this movie in so long. Me and my cousins ran this shit ragged when it came out. We would argue over who got to play who. On top of the cast, envogue coming through with the song and video. We was performing our butts off.

23:02 lets also not forget how Jr deliberately put Stoney's brother in a terrible situation because he knew that he was wanted and still told the woman to do the haircut the exact same way with no distinction (it probably would've have mattered, but just stating). Jr could've encouraged Stoney's brother to do something different Regarding TeeTee's hair - I'm going to assume that they purposely didn't redo hers because it wouldn't fit with her character. Think about it, they were all struggling yes, but TeeTee was the ONLY biological mother. 41:43 I think he didn't say anything because lol his job would've been on the line and he would've got no pension. If he would've left them alone and done a better job with Frankie - things would've played out differently. As you said, things catapulted because he had his vendetta with them from Frankie's incident. #Friendship
