Worked up until today with the fake username and password but no more - the second workaround worked - thanks. Win 11 Pro

I'm glad it worked. If you still want to use the fake username, you still can, you need to use something like "admin57" something unique that hasn't been used too many times.

Unlikely, because I think they have to have the option, so they just make it super difficult.

After the Oops window, I do ot get the Who's going to use window. I get recycled back to the sign in to your microsoft account window
