This was so well timed I was constantly having issues with suspension setup as im useless at it and used the settings in the manual always blowing through the forks etc. I changed fork and spring to suit my weight thinking that would make all the difference and it didn't. Im on a TE 250 2016 with WP 4CS forks which I heard were ordinary due to issues. Surprisingly without any re-valving just stock yesterday I applied the exact same settings as Rich shows and I was blown away by the difference. When I hear anyone complaining about their suspension Im pointing them to this channel its changed my complete riding experience. If I lived in the USA I would be at one of your clinics yesterday. Awesome and thankyou now I know what it feels like to have great suspension even if its not perfect it is to me compared to what I was doing and im no longer blowing through my forks and the rear is sticking to the obstacle.

Nice to see a company developing suspension mods for a reasonable cost, most hardware upgrades for forks , other than just changing shims, is around $1200 to$1500, suspension setup is the most misunderstood and difficult to setup but the benefits of good suspension can be the difference between misery and thrilling fun, I prefer to get my suspension working well for me and then just leave the clickers alone from there.

great video rich. ive watched AXC's development on these and last time i saw josh, he explained that the red cones are a way to bridge the gap when zapping across high speed rough sections, were we want the compression, but then hold up in technical sections where we dont wanna blow through the stroke. sounds like that's what they gave you. with as fast and as far as you can push a suspension you are probably feeling the limits of what the cones can do. the rest of us will probably have a better experience with them... allowing us to run even softer compression and holding us up in those hard hits.

Crazy good timing for me. I'm going to buy a set of cone valve forks and a trax shock tomorrow for a 2019 Husky TX 300 (last carb enduro bike) that I just bought. £3000 for the bike and £650 for the forks and shock, I can't say no at that value... even if I'm nowhere near good enough to be hitting the limit of stock stuff!

I’m only an intermediate rider and I’ve got an ex-pro’s old cones and Trax setup in my 2015 300EXC. Paid £400 plus service costs for them. They’re 10yrs old same as the bike and still work great. The cone mid-valve really does give that plush/hard feeling. They’re very versatile, I can set mine from hard enduro to XC… but for real hold up in the desert 🇦🇪 I can go up a spring rate too. Cool video and very interesting suspension solution… thanks for sharing. Been thinking about similar for my 23 AER forks.

When I was adjusting my gasgas 300 xc suspension I went by the book. Thought I would like soft but it rode bad, then tried "sport" and it was a little better. Ended up having to go like 3-4 clicks past sport to get it feeling good. I was surprised because I'm a mid level B rider and 155-160 pounds. Good helpful video. But no one ever tells how to deterrmine what preload to set the forks at or how to determine an appropriate setting for spring or air type forks. Everyone and their dog talks about rear sag but never the front sag. I am thinking this is part of setting up a bike for front to rear balance. And for travelled used.

Lainer Suspension, dal soggio and k-tech do complete Kits... But never tried so far. If i keep my 300rr, i will go for the spv2 mototech Kit for beta Sachs ZF... Around 2500€ in german for fork and shock inclusive , but it is a build in Kit, so not an extra complete Suspension, which you can take easy to the next bike. I testrode it... Absolut incredible... Nice video! I am a suspension noob. I do understand what compression and rebound does, but I struggle to translate the feeling I have on the bike into what I have to adjust. That being said: As a non-native english speaker, there is some lingo that I am not sure what it means. "the bike settles better" or "holds up", like describing your feeling of the bike. Would be beneficial to explain what these terms actually mean, for the uninitiated...
@IRCTireUSAMotoАй бұрын
To settle means the bike is riding deeper in the suspension stroke. Hold up is the ability to absorb hard hits without bottoming. 👍 thanks for watching!

Curious if you record which settings work for each type of riding and then change to those settings on the days you ride that terrain? I mix between desert singletrack, higher speed and flowy, and mountain singletrack that's closer to the hard enduro spectrum. Was thinking of dialing in for each then just add/remove the proper clicks depending on the destination instead of trying to find a compromise between them.
@IRCTireUSAMotoАй бұрын
Definitely noticed the difference between the first day and the third day in this video. You can see where the settings are for higher speed riding, and where the settings are for Hard Enduro . What you’ll see is higher speed equals stiffer and slower on the comp and rebound, slower speed, softer faster.

Does the linkage shock on the husky have the tool less rebound adjustment? The PDS on my xcw does, and I’m not entirely sure which direction to spin for the rebound adjustments. They have directions in the manual but I can’t tell from which orientation. To me I would assume you look from the bottom up, just like you’re screwing the adjuster in or out and it’s moving the rod inside but haven’t heard anyone talk about it yet.
@IRCTireUSAMotoАй бұрын
Clockwise is more rebound dampening counterclockwise is less rebound dampening i.e. faster. Always go all the way in and count the clicks back.
@natefennАй бұрын
@@IRCTireUSAMoto I know that much, I'm talking about the angle to look at the giant red plastic screw for those rotational directions, would you look at it from the bottom of the screw or the top of the screw?
@IRCTireUSAMotoАй бұрын
I’m sorry man I’m just not sure what you mean. In my head no matter the angle you look at it clockwise is always clockwise
@natefennАй бұрын
@@IRCTireUSAMoto then our adjusters are probably different, the PDS style adjuster could be considered in two different orientations because it circumvents the whole shock like the spring does, similar to adjusting the preload/sag it spins around the body of the shock, which is why the orientation throws me off because it isn’t specified in the manual. Maybe that makes more sense?
@SpillSmastinАй бұрын
I had the same confusion on my xcw. I found a breakdown that explains our red screw better than the manual does. Clockwise on the xcws means turning it to the right looking at it from the bottom up (increase damping). Hope this helps!

At 23:15 you mention you like to run the rebound "slightly faster" as to not rebound off the obstacle but to "stick". Do you mean slightly "slower"? Seems a slower rebound would stick better and not spring you off the obstacle. Sorry, just trying to conceptualize all this great information and "faster" seemed confusing if "stick" was the objective.
@IRCTireUSAMotoАй бұрын
Great question. When you speed up the rebound that allows the tire to come back to the obstacle and “stick” at you hold traction over the top. On hard hits like logs or rocks the tires will ALWAYS rebound off the obstacle briefly. When you speed up the rebound it allows the tires to return to contact of the obstacle.
