Didn't really notice the meaning behind the lyrics until the second listen when I realized it's all about the Avetts heading back to California to record their upcoming album as they did in 2009 with Rick Rubin. Both the Carpenter and Magpie were recorded in North Carolina. Clever lyrics and just a fun tune. Gotta say, I for one am glad they're heading back to California.. Nothing beats a new Avett album!

Maybe it's just me, but I have noticed a theme with a lot of these new songs they are doing. Fischer Road, The Method Actor, Spell of Ambition, Mama, Rejects in the Attic, Satan Pulls the Strings... they all seem to talk about success and how they deal with it. Also California is a common theme. It's probably just me

Aric, No, you don't need a Martin. They sound tinny and shallow in the hands of mere mortals. Another excellent song from the Avett family. The Avetts are very generous with KZbin material, and my family and I thank God for that.
@derekharlan10 жыл бұрын
I make some fine alternatives to Martins, www.ChurchGuitars.com, for a fraction of the price and customized to the player.

Derek Harlan I checked out your web site. Pretty cool. Wish I lived closer so I could give some of your work a test drive. My baby is a mahogany Guild
@derekharlan10 жыл бұрын
Curt Fouts Thanks Curt. I like Guilds too. There are many good guitars out there that don't have the name "Martin" or "Gibson" on them. We just can't compete with the names, so we have to make our guitars more unique.
@scottlavender7299 жыл бұрын
+Derek Harlan I'm 25 now and stated playing at 12 and I was thought young that it's not the guitar that's "good" it's the player. I have a few fenders but tbh my favorite ones are Sears knock offs for the 60s.

anyone know how to play this ??? is it tuned different?
@donnied.23679 жыл бұрын
+Samuel Moseley standard tuning, I know how to play it, however I learned from listening so I can't really tell the notes
@JonNorstrom8 жыл бұрын
It's centered around a D chord, C chord, a E7 that then drops 1 fret. Then that chorus goes C, D, Em, A7, C, D, Em, B7, C (and then some other form of C) and then kind of ends on a D7

MSeepaulsingh Nah, definitely standard. Just a G, C and some other blues chords in there. I figured it out just sitting with my guitar and watching him.
@brucelafone189510 жыл бұрын
zmartens13 Actually not really, Scott and Seth don't even tune. They just play around with their strums until they like the way it sounds. Its great but maddening if you want to recreate.
