Loved the interview - Seth Godin is one of my idols! The whole interview is about wisdom, especially his philosophy on how he hires people by giving them projects & selects those who have curiosity and challenge the status quo to do things better-nice tactic!

This is a great conversation with Seth. I like how bring out new insights from some of the works we know. And very interestingly, the idea that social influence doesn't always lead to impactful connections with audiences is one to think about.

I would suspect that all of you guys involved in creating this content and many following you probably have a pretty good idea or at least their own opinions that are pretty close to the mark. But I’ll throw my two cents into the hat just because I love this kind of stuff. I would assume that Netflix got traction because their purpose was to provide a product / service to the public with the least amount of resistance as possible. They seem to have followed that course along the way to where they are now. When you speak of change, I think it’s remarkable what Netflix has provided to the culture of watching films and video. Now episodic television that is available to binge is a culture and a new psychology of watching. So much to the point that and I don’t know this for a fact, but being involved in the process of creating larger form content, would suspect that the material is created specifically for that purpose. Meaning the wire frame structure is designed to allow for denser content because they don’t have to spend as much time closing a piece and then opening the next one in a way that keeps people, in suspense for the gap of time between which they can watch each episode. I know people now that will not get involved in a series if they are not able to binge watch. And I suspect it is because the structure of the material provides the opp for them being able to watch everything at once, but also in a denser content form that they enjoy. All of this has created a space for Netflix to be a leader as a “ broadcast”operation in a form that didn’t exist. Hence “CHANGE” and now have specific built for Netflix material being created. As for the part where they are losing a lot of money on this process, I would suspect that they along with many other people in the world have realized that there are other ways to create streams of revenue off of an entire model beyond the original intention of how that model creates revenue. Meaning, I would think that there are great many businesses that are willing to partner with Netflix in order to be involved in the process of being available on Netflix. Sorry for the long comment. One of my favorite things to do is to white space these types of things. And thank you very much Seth for doing the work that you do. It is immeasurably valuable to people in business of any shape or form and thanks to you guys for creating a space for him to Have another opportunity to provide his mind. Thank you.

More wisdom from the marketing sage. But I think Seth contradicted himself when he said don't build a tribe, become a leader and tap into other tribes. Sounds like his actual advice was to... build a "tribe of tribes."

My answer to Seth’s question: People won’t come back and watch the show if no binging available. It has to do with the illusion that people have the freedom to consume content at any point, not controlled by Netflix. @sethgodin
