Жыл бұрын

Seth Green (Family Guy, Robot Chicken, Austin Powers, Changeland), Mayim’s on-screen boyfriend from their Facts of Life days, stops by to discuss growing up in the entertainment industry alongside Mayim, his experiences with therapy and psychedelics, and why he has always strived to be a good human. He considers why his trajectory turned out so positive compared to other fellow child actors, why he thinks he may have undiagnosed ADHD, and how the condition has helped him in his life. Seth opens up about his experimentation with psychedelics in conjunction with mindfulness and research, how it taught him to detach from his ego and express his emotions, and the possible dangers of hallucinogens. He shares how therapy taught him to forgive his parents, why the search for the right therapist can be so frustrating, and the things that are currently on his self-improvement list. Seth discusses his relationship with marijuana and Mayim breaks down how cannabis can help with sleep-related issues.

I would imagine most of Mayim’s audience is familiar with The Facts of Life. Lisa Whelchel’s character, Blair Warner, was not a “snobby christian conservative”. She was a snobby rich girl, a spoiled debutante. But she wasn’t overtly christian or religious. In fact there was an episode built around her lack of religion, where she gets into a conflict, one of many, with Jo (Nancy McKeon) over her own lack of belief in God spurred on by her parents’ divorce. Lisa herself became very religious in her own personal life, but the character of Blair was not.

Having never done psychedelics, I find that a constant theme. Is the realization and ability of being one in the universe --- on a level that opens at a level that’s nots related to present mindfulness. Seth explained atoms of all that’s connected in this earth and the universe -- Has been explained to me over and over, by non famous people too. There must be something to that, even in ancient cultures

It was a mind blower for me when I discovered Juliette Lewis was the daughter of the guy who played the sidekick Orville in the Clint Eastwood ape movies. They agreed with her being emancipated to make it easier for her to find work, which her father Geoffrey, being an actor, was sympathetic towards. I am a big fan of those dumb ape movies lol.

Just watching Mayim’s comments on the drugs. I love that she is acknowledging the negative side effects of drugs. My brother in law and my step brother both had mental illness and both had mental breakdowns through pot usage. Maybe Seth doesn’t feel as positive as he seems if he needs drugs to put him to sleep and he is self medicating. I should have watched the rest before I commented but it was bothering me so much. Addiction is not fun for anyone.

I am really surprised about how openly Seth talks about using drugs and that they were responsible for his realization at 16. He acts like it’s not a big deal to use drugs yet most people I know who have used drugs ended up having some kind of breakdown or getting in trouble with the law. Regardless of whether you get a “pure” drug or not, everyone reacts differently and taking even one drug one time can have negative effects on one’s physical and mental health. I am a mother of three and do not condone drug use unless you seek a doctors care. I’ve watched most episodes of this podcast but this one stood out to me for the way drugs were talked about so nonchalantly. Like if a young person is watching this and is thinking about trying a drug this makes it seem like it would be ok. This has been bothering me since yesterday so thought I would comment.

Love these conversations you create with this podcast.... How can there be a formula to life when we come in with different circumstances, have a different soul path, and are graced with archetypes to get us through this journey for however long our "contract" lasts. Our journey is unique to us like a fingerprint even though we have siblings in the exact same environment. Our lives are intimate but impersonal at the same time. There is one formula for us: Find what we are good at for the time we are here and share that to help heal others/the world even when we think we are not - we actually are helping to heal ourselves in the process.

I hope that As he is always looking within & learning he isn’t judge mental or thinks that “he talks too much”. He will never fit into certain boxes and it’s a wonderful thing. He has a big & busy brain & is not only vivacious but seems like a very decent & caring person & makes the world a better place by being in it. Blessings 🏄‍♀️🤗

Good interview as always. My sister who has never been into drugs of any kind did take a couple puffs of pot for anxiety or just because... but it's a rare thing. What she does do every night is Gummies for sleep & she's happy with it. She has zero issues with it. I'd try it if I could but not smoking it, I quit many years back because the new strains are too strong for me & set off my panic buttons. I think there's a lot to be said about the good medicine being done in the field of making the products for sleep & pain & it's natural. I can't even do topicals for pain because of my Pain Management contract.

Molly Ringwald was on the first season. There were quite a few more girls in the lineup of Eastland School students in the beginning, and the main setting was the dorm where Mrs. Garrett was house mother. In the second season they retooled the show and reduced the cast to the main four girls and had them move into the room above the cafeteria, which was the format that became a hit. I think Molly came back for at least one small guest appearance in the second season. Then she moved on to the movies that made her famous.

I was onboard with this podcast until the end when they correctly critiqued the use of pot as a sleep aid. Personally I can’t fall asleep when I’m high. It’s really difficult for me, maybe because I have an ADHD brain and I need my brain stimulated for it to actually relax lol. But my issue is not the explanation of the issues with pot for sleeping but the over reaction to its “dangers” in a way that seems more fear based than factual. In reality any sleep aid is more of a bandaid than a cure for insomnia because unless you are suffering from a severe form of insomnia from a lack of sleep chemicals being present in your body or the inability to respond to them properly all the benefits from all the different chemical sleeping aids are temporary fixes to get one through. Sleep deprivation is horrible and any new parent can tell you the horrors of the zombie like existence one experiences when you are getting in sync with your child’s sleep schedule. It can be brutal. It’s a dementia of sorts. But describing pot as a potential slippery slope is just not the same thing as ambien or valium or any other traditionally prescribed sleeping medication. Those are of an entirely different level than pot. I just don’t see the need for such a long form public service disclaimer here. ❤ Otherwise I am a huge fan of this excellent podcast and have been binge listening for a while now 😂

The sound was off and when I saw the screen, I thought she was interviewing Michael More, then I realised that it was Mayim. Not trying to be mean. Just a factual report of a moment that caught me off guard.
