They cook coon on a regular meateater episode. A bobcat is a type of lynx, so that would be repetitive. A Raven is just a type of crow, so that would be repetitive as well. I don't think they would consider snake and toad to be very exotic. Steve ate a rattle snake on meateater and I know the meateater team eats frog legs. Gar is also not exotic and Steve has eaten it on the show before.

My first job after getting my Ichthyology/ Aquaculture/Aquaponics degree was managing a Goldfish breeding operation. Disgusting creatures. They are bred for horrible deformities because they look "cute." They are actually somewhat toxic, and often disease-ridden, so never use them as feeders for turtles or other fish. I really had no hope for their ediblity. Was fun to watch you try! Maybe try pickling them after soaking them for a few hours in saltwater.

I bet the body of water you caught them in is the main reason for the taste. Small ponds are not exactly known for clean, high quality water.

Had a gold fish as a kid, woke up one morning and its stomach was stuck to the filtration intake pipe, turned off the filter and realized it tore its stomach open and its intestines were hanging out, he stayed alive for a couple days swimming around with its intestines hanging out.

I work for a landscaping company in northern Wisconsin. The bosses daughter threw goldfish in a waterfeature at our shop. She tried to get them all before winter but missed one. The pond almost froze solid and that goldfish lived in it through the winter. Alive in the spring.

But they need to cook it in an appropriate way! Fried is not the way to cook these fish, or any fish with wye bones. Smoked, grilled, canned, pressure cooked, or ground into fried fish balls would've been much better.

@@tyb525 They mentioned how they are doing simple preparations to actually try the meat without burying it in other flavors. When in doubt, all meat in a curry tastes pretty much the same.

Here’s a good recipe for gold fish: 1-salt it, leave it in the fridge overnight 2-brine it in pickle juice or a simple brine (water, salt, sugar, seasonings) for a few hours 3-buttermilk dredge (flour, buttermilk, Panko breadcrumbs or other crumbs) 4-oil at 375 5-throw the fucking fish in the garbage.
