Seth is a PhD Candidate in South Asian Religions at Harvard University. His research focuses on the history, theory, and practice of medieval and early modern Sanskrit yoga texts and traditions, as well as their intersections with the culture and practice of modern transnational yoga. Seth also holds degrees in the study of religion from the University of Washington (MA) and Humboldt State University (BA).
Seth founded Yogic Studies in 2018 and serves as the Director and Head Faculty, and is also the host of The Yogic Studies Podcast. He is currently dissertating on a fifteenth-century Sanskrit yoga text from south India called the Śivayogapradīpikā. He lives with his wife and two children in the wine country of the Napa Valley, California.

For a yoga practitioner how does it matter what's the true history if yoga is? I think western mind has not come out its Christian required history centrism and trying to impose and craft Indian traditions on the same contours, consequently destroying its very nature. Any future scholar will contradict and update previous findings, yoga practitioner instead of following tradition have started following these scholars which are incomplete guesswork based on limited findings and trying to frame their yoga practice and history of yoga along those lines is a recipe for disaster for Hindu traditions. Any well meaning practisioner should avoid that and follow his/her tradition for transendence. Western world treats yoga sort of dead religion to be studied in s museum instead of living one. Yoga practitioner should avoid that and let academicians do their trapped intellectual job.

@@keenonyoga Yeah I know but it is academic information not traditional information that's the point. If you have learnt yoga from a guru, why will you subvert your own tradition, if you want to engage that's fine but I saw the obsession in this channel with history of yoga as investigated by western scholars with their limited findings as of now and their guess worked conclusions. Because I have seen people from west claiming theirs nothing hindu about yoga and all, why would you perpetuate that? Why can't I see single video of guru's and sadhakas and Indian scholars here? If you want to advance in your practise wouldn't you want a practitioner and traditionally learned person to explain rather than an academician? As I said, crafting Indian traditions on the contours of history centrism and ever changing academic scholarship literally destroys the very tradition from where you have learnt those things. So you practice and learn from Hindu gurus but eventually make your masters as western academicians totally against your dharma to preserve guru shishya parampara and tradition.
