betty: this show sucks, so im gonna blow everything out of the water.

I accidentally skipped ahead to 2.25 and it has one of the funniest images ever - Seth smiling smugly while mouthing along with the phrase "the curse of blood", as if to say "yes child, didn't you know I am a middle aged crazy lady"?
@jessica23claire7 жыл бұрын
I think what happened with the trap door is she lifted it earlier, then that loud bang was it falling down by accident (judging by the shitty quality Broadway video). Also I love baby Linzi's accent in this show because she's so British that the accent's kinda weird.

Buckley when on fire is ferocious. A talent that never quite got the roles to truly shine. It was a breathtaking instrument deployed without fear

I can't decide which song I like better. I go back and forth between Eve Was Weak and I Remember How Those Boys Could Dance. Betty is just phenomenal in both, as well as Linzi with the back and forth. I just love their voices working off each other. They complimented each other greatly. Such a shame the show didn't run longer. So many amazing songs, and equally great performances bringing them to life.

Please do I Remember How Those Boys Could Dance.... Or just do the whole the show.... Also, whilst I obviously love Betty Buckley's Margaret, I adore Barbara Cook's voice and how it just feels like Margaret is in a totally different musical from the pop-inflected teen numbers. It really emphasises her character's isolation from the world. Both are just incredible performers and no way could I choose between them! Wish I could have seen them!

it's one of the greatest and most thoroughly terrifying vocal performances I've ever heard in a musical and it's such a shame there's no cast album of this production.

I did not see this show on Broadway, but I can tell you that the movie scared the crap out of me when I was younger. The composers definitely captured the spookiness melded with the insanity of the mother in the music. As always, well done, Seth!

@HollywoodHillsCookie I agree. I was there for every performance. I was a Bartender at the theater in my early NYC days. And I must say that the score was remarkable and Buckley was magic from beginning to end. Ironically, it may of in fact been her best work ever. The duet work between she and Hateley was gorgeous. I recall Buckley not begin the original choice for the Mother. It was Barbara Cook, who reportedly left siting "Religious Conflicts". It closed almost immediately.

I love this duo so much! The 1988 production didn’t have a lot going for it, but everything with Carrie and Margaret was just amazing. It’s a shame the revival lowered the octave for this song, I feel like that made it lose some of its intensity. Maybe if I ever get to direct this show, I can bring some of the old arrangements back, and it can be a sort of hybrid between the original and revival.

I am so glad that the great Seth Rudetsky is as obsessed with the history of this show as I am lol. Have you seen or at least heard the cast recording for the off Broadway revival in 2012? They kept the good songs, slightly reworked the ok songs, and got rid of the bad songs and replaced them with either new scenes of dialogue or new songs altogether. Retooled the script. Changed the staging. (A smaller more intimate stage works MUCH better for this show!)And dude, you have GOT to deconstruct both I Remember How Those Boys Could Dance AND When There's No One.
@RLucas30006 жыл бұрын
Quentin Barrentine And Eve was Weak is one of my two favorite songs from this show, but the other is Don’t Waste The Moon, didn’t the off Broadway version get rid of that one? I could listen to it all day!

Buckley owns this role. I hate how on the revival recording she doesn’t drop down the 5th on “burn YOU” mostly because now every amateur production copies the cast recording and it never works as well. Sometimes it better to sing what’s on the page and not try to copy what a cast recording does
@isaacreef14 жыл бұрын
Ummm... so great, entertaining, lots of fun. And no denying the music is fantastic and the performance phenomenal. One question: What score do you have?
