Also have exercise-induced asthma. My doctor recommended exercise like cycling or running a couple times per week and it really helps. Also, he recommended I should not use the inhaler regularly but only when I felt that I needed it. If I try to deliver peak performance, my lung still doesn't perform perfectly, but in lower efforts, I don't have any symptoms anymore. Also, my lung capacity is now almost the same as a healthy person's.

Same exercise induced asthma. Didn't really come on until I was well into my thirties. I found that after racing I just could not get my breath back and my airway would constrict. So I got an inhaler. Puff before and after a big ride / race (I'm an amateur not going for podiums, chill) and I can ride my ride. Sadly the last couple big races (Chequamegon / Lutsen) I've ended up in the medical tent, I'm just not recovering as fast as I use to, but I'm also going to be 50 next year... Trade offs.

Try reducing all carbs-sugars and inflammatory/salavtory foods like chocolate, dairy and wheat for a week or two and see if it does anything. I had breathing difficulty with exercise my whole life and it got much worse after an illness ~2019. After trying something different like this day 1 my airways were much clearer especially after I sleep. and I finally feel like I can go outside again ;-; PS. it's not cheating... 2 things: 1: Crested Butte is stunning! I got married, more like eloped lol, in Ouray (I live in the PNW) and Crested Butte was on our drive back to Greeley. Wife and I went for a hike and took some post "ceremony" pictures and WOW beautiful area. I wished we had the chance to stay there longer. 2: Ones diet plays a huge roll in physical health and people have more food sensitivities than they think. My guess is that you have an intolerance that is causing inflammation that is affecting your lungs and potentially other parts of your body. Super happy to see and hear that you are feeling better with the diet change and, to be honest, you are looking a lot healthier and more energized! Keep up the good work dude!!!

I would _assume_ (though I haven't heard him mention it) that Seth checks air quality measurements, & would know if smoke\smog was a major factor for him... Even so, it's such a _noticeable_ factor for me, that it seems hard to seriously discuss exercise without also factoring in the effects of air quality. Diet (vis-a-vis inflammation) is also a _huge_ factor, but the obvious significance of air quality, should never be overlooked. "Fire season" & blown in smoke\smog, both continued _really_ late into the winter, in Colorado this year. I noticed Seth started mentioning his improvement, around the same time I started noticing that the air was not quite as bad. I'm not _at all_ trying to play down diet as a factor; but I'd like to see what numbers Seth comes up with, when comparing his output on Good vs Poor & Severe air quality days?
@carsonchambers5617Ай бұрын
Can’t beat our scenery here in the PNW though. That’s what I love about Oregon, we have pretty much all the climates. Coast/sand dunes on the left, plenty of forests (my favorite thing) snowy mountains in the middle, and high desert on the right side of the state. You end up taking it for granted when you visit other states that are just flat, and have no forests (cough cough Nebraska😂). We have family friends that came here for a family reunion. I’d always joke that their “mountains” where more like hills compared to ours.🤣

I can relate hard! I have had asthma all my life aswell, not too severe, but in need of daily inhalations and some extra when doing sports. At age 23 i had the feeling that the inhalations didn't do much, so I stopped taking them regularly. After about two weeks I didn't feel the need for them at all, and back then I was a smoker aswell. After getting more fit and stopping the smoking habit I was more clear in the airways than I was as non smoking teenager with inhalations. I'm now soon to be 32, I haven't had the need for inhalations aside from one time when I had a cold during pollen season. Sometimes age and lifestyle changes can do marvellous things!

I try to ride a couple times a week, just pick something off of the trail app and go. Always something new and amazing. Places like this are where E's can really shine. If you are in a constant state of exploration in places that can be vast and very difficult, you dont always know if turning down any one trail means you are spending the night out there.

Not to rain on your parade, but I've also had asthma my entire life and I'm 37 now. It was very mild as a kid/teenage and then flared up in my early twenties. It was very mild again in my late twenties and early thirties and a couple of years ago flared up again. I had to use my inhaler 4 times just last night. My point is that it could come back again in the future, possibly with a vengeance. Our bodies change and go through cycles over the years. I HOPE that it doesn't come back, for your sake, but just keep it in mind.

Was your general health, fitness, activity and diet very consistent through those times? I can see it being pure coincidence that it let off for him just as he started eating better. My friends with asthmas seem to have acuteness vary a lot over the years but one definitely got "better" as they also got fitter and ate better. (I mean, this is why we have doctors study this stuff over thousands of people and anecdotal evidence is just that)

I can be super stubborn as I know my legs can carry that weight. I think when I'm lighter, my cardio can be pushed. I don't really change my diet too much either. I lose weight by riding more long rides on my gravel bike. Maybe drink less beer, hence eat less burgers. I still carry an inhaler just in case.
