Today we will review 11 of the cheapest upgrades you can make to your mountain bike. I covered 10 even cheaper ones in another video, but most of these do more to actually improve performance than those did. These upgrades are so cheap, that tires didn’t even make the cut. Enjoy!

There are too many different ones to link to specifics. Please research what your air fork or can uses directly from your manufacturer.
Stealth axles are another thing which will be dependent on fork brand and width, so do your research. If you are unsure what your fork width is just look up your bike on its manufacturer's website and check the specs. When it doubt, go to your local bike shop and they might just have it!
Single Speed Chainring
For most bikes with 2 or 3 rings up front, 104mm will be the size. How many speeds you have at the rear makes no difference up front.

Another tip I've found for converting to 1x is to leave the front derailleur on. If you don't have a clutch rear derailleur there's a good chance your chain will come off even with a narrow wide chainring. Leaving the front derailleur on, but removing everything else including the shifter, means you have a super cheap and functional chain guide. Just adjust the limit screws accordingly.

Glad you mention keeping lube away from disc brake rotors. For that reason, I recommend DRIP teflon lube over aerosols hands-down. Triflow 2oz drip bottles come with a straw to help direct lube application, but an ever better solution IMO is to get a finer metal needle lube bottle. Just throw in some old nuts and bolts to act as an agitator to get the teflon off the bottom of the bottle and in solution with a shake before applying to your bike. Look for needle lubers with a screw top and rubber cap for the needle.

I tend to find that Dry Lube doesn't last all that long on wet muddy rides. Especially once the rear dérailleur is clogged with mud, which can sometimes be as little as 5 mins depending on the trails. So for me I tend to use dry Lube and simply accept that the chain will come back in a pretty bad state. Then my bike sounds quiet and smooth at the very least until I get out of the carpark xD Thankfully I have not had any worse rust than surface discolouration after a ride. That said, I have one bike that has an early 90's (late 80's?) Deore that has no drivetrain rust, seems they made them of more rust proof materials back then rather than light. Whereas my current one started getting surface rust within a few months, despite being lubed before and after each ride.

Good tip for a tailgate protector that's a hell of a lot cheaper than a race face protector, and a lot better looking than using cut up cardboard boxes. Look up carseat seat protectors on Amazon. They're tough and durable and look cool. They have them for around $20 which isn't bad if you only transport 1 or 2 bikes usually.

Velcro - By the way if you stick the two pieces together (loop and hook) back to back you can make your own gear straps. Just cut to your desired length and width.Get the 3m heavy duty 2" wide for more cutting options.

Hey just a word of advice on how to remove those stainless steel pegs from platform petals. Try using pliers called end cutters or end nippers. They do an awesome job of latching onto even the smallest amount of metal protruding from the pedal. Great content as always, keep up the great work!

Hi Seth, i have a suggestion for a video since this problem just happened to me and i had to give it to the mechanic in order to do it right, but wanna learn it myself: How to change spline bearings. Would you say this is a possible idea for some future video? Huge fan of the channel. Thanks!

If you have a hard time getting the traction screws out of your pedals, try putting a little kroil on first. If you have to go on to drilling and extractors, get some left hand twist bits of the proper size for your extractor. With a little luck they spin right out and if not you at least tried and it's on to the extractor. There's some other things but that's usually plenty for any small fasteners.

You should've mentioned that dry lube washes away very easily and isnt very durable, making it a not bad choice in wet conditions. I didn't know this and almost bought dry lube in winter. Great video as always :D

If you have trouble getting the pins out, use a Dremel tool. Cut a slot in it and just use a flat head screw driver to back it out. You'd basically make a flat head screw/bolt.

In the bicycle mechanic world we call presta valve caps (as they are not needed unlike schrader valve caps) Slow me downs. All they do for you is slow you down when you have a flat or are changing tires!!

for the pedal studs try left handed drill bits. might not be worth buying a set for a one time use but they are great for this kinda stuff. might be worth asking the neighbors if you can borrow a 1/16" (im guessing the size idk for sure)

You can also convert a 3x drivetrain to a 2x by removing the largest chanting and replacing it with a bash ring from BBG Bashguard. Did this on my old XC bike, and it's great! Still have lots of range, and it gave me confidence to start trying to learn more trials kinds of skills where I kept bashing the chainring into rocks
