Come Out Ye Black And Tans - The Wolfe Tones (Cover) by Seth Staton Watkins
It's finally here! I know many of you have requested a full version of this song for a few weeks now and I apologize for the delay.
"Come Out Ye Black and Tans" is an Irish rebel song about the Irish war of independence. The "black and tans" refers to the color of the uniform worn by the British reinforcements stationed in Dublin to reinforce the Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC) in 1920. The song was written by Dominic Behan as a tribute to his Irish Republican Army (IRA) father Stephen, who had fought in the War of Independence. The song though referencing the war of independence is about the dispute between republican and unionist neighbors in inner-city Dublin in the Irish Free State era of the mid-1920s.

Lyrics!!! I was born on a Dublin street where the Royal drums did beat And those loving English feet they walked all over us Oh and every single every night when me da would come home tight He'd invite the neighbors out with this fine chorus Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders Oh and how the IRA made you run like hell away From the green and lovely lakes of Killashandra Come tell us how you slew them old Arabs two by two Like the Zulus they had spears and bows and arrows Oh, how you bravely faced one with your sixteen pounder gun And you frightened them poor natives to the marrow Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders Oh and how the IRA made you run like hell away From the green and lovely lakes of Killashandra Come let us hear you tell how you slammed the great Pernell And thought him well and truly persecuted Where are the smears and jeers that you loudly let us hear When our leaders of '16 were executed? Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders Oh and how the IRA made you run like hell away From the green and lovely lakes of Killashandra Oh the time is coming fast and I think those days are here When those English Johnny's heels will run before us Oh if there be a need then our kids will say 'godspeed' with a verse or two of singing this fine chorus Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders Oh and how the IRA made you run like hell away From the green and lovely lakes of Killashandra Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders Oh and how the IRA made you run like hell away From the green and lovely lakes of Killashandra From the green and lovely lakes of Killashandra From the green and lovely lakes of Killashandra

These days, it's increasingly rare to find artists who haven't been corrupted by the system and don't just kiss up to it. However, I recently stumbled upon Seth Staton Watkins, and I'm not only captivated by his incredible vocal abilities and sound, but also by his humanity and activism for what's right. Such integrity is rare in today's world, where many artists seem to sell their souls to blend in with the corrupted system controlled by powerful lobbyists. I have two loves: Palestine and Ireland.

This is a pretty damn good version. I like how you didn't "modernize" the old lyrics in terms of how they change "da" and other words. The harmonizing chorus echoes a bit too much sometimes due to the effect but that effect is great on the solo verses. I think *The Maguire Brothers* have the best version. It's got that *oomf* even though the accent is lacking. The additional lyrics added in that version are a welcome addition too as they add other warcrimes to the list.
