Good show SETI, thumbs up for taking the time to read the feedback and making the effort to correct the audio. Much appreciated, great stuff :)

Honestly people, if you're even slightly analytically minded (and you're here, watching a Seti Institute video) you can hear that Dr Tarter's mic was apparently voice-activated and the trigger level was set just a little high so while it was off, nothing was recorded. Therefore, within reason there's only so much "fixing" you can expect post-production to be able to do. By all means, "[move] on to another video" but if you find another organisation routinely performing searches for extraterrestrial technology with anywhere near the scientific thoroughness as the Seti Institute, please let me know :-)

Dedicated to jill tarter & shostak . Beyond in haunting infinity ! I do not know how i came to be This is my reality but i know somehow You cameout of this entity And now its been too long Since you left to mourn eternity Now this time nothing Stands in between Now i'm awaken ,driven & risen Risen by your thoughts alone Beyond in haunting infinity Unbound of a cosmic dream I'm free , yeah i'm free And i'm reaching you out Hold on just hold on We may rise , he will fall This time i swear I swear my soul to you No more thirst ,no more blood Curse the moonlight now shines along You and i , we are the one Bitten , bitten by the deeper truth Beyond in haunting infinity Unbound of a cosmic dream I'm free , yeah i'm free And reaching you out Hold on just hold on We've made to become one .

Correct me if I'm wrong, but AFAIK the WOW! Signal was recently shown to have come from a comet within solar system.

I bought the book like I religiously buy everything concerning Astrophysics, Astrobiology, General Relativity etc... While I specialize in XRay Astronomy us that study absorb other fields... I also collect books about Abiogenesis, Evolution & Genetics... I don't see why that is a suprise. And while I hate pseudo feminism Jill Tarter went thru the times where women had a hard standing and she put her work in. I deeply respect that.

2.1768*10^36. The number of microarcsecond points that a signal can originate from, projected on our celestial sphere, if pointed directly at Earth. Factor in power transmission requirements, signal absorption (inverse square law), signal to noise ratio, bandwidth slice and end boundaries, cosmic time scales, data interpretation. How can SETI possibly detect ETI ? I'm sure ETI's were/are there, but SETI has a miniscule probability of detecting any. We are not alone, but *proving it* may be impossible.

@23:50 Whilst the probability of finding aliens is less if we don't look, I'd say it isn't zero as we may 'find' them if and when they come visiting Earth.

SETI goes on, you are doing good work, the big secret is open to being blind, believing in God is so simple, but believing in alien life is sensitive, I believe in science, billions of stars with planets, in one galaxy , And then billions of galaxies, it's so simple there's just life, it's bursting out of life, we're really not alone, I believe.

@g. hinckle Missing out on what? We are alone.. colourful lichen clinging to the rock of a rare planet.. we shall die.. we shall be eaten by worms. I really don't wish spend an hour and a half my life speculating over other life in the universe that shall meet the same fate. Who cares? Give me just one reason to think it's important. Is OK... I realise you cannot. By the way; who is Jill Tarter? Surely she gets eaten by worms along with the rest of us. What is she imagining? That she'll meet an alien? Big deal. So SETI is struggling financially while it's searching into the most important thing we can ever know?! What's happening to our species?!
@minuterepeater22574 жыл бұрын
True, but I wont trust them as much as I do if they were (mainly) government/corporate funded like the vast majority of science is.

@ Lee moe Oh yeah... You sure about your statement? Consider this; We are alone.. colourful lichen clinging to the rock of a rare planet.. we shall die.. we shall be eaten by worms. I really don't wish spend an hour and a half my life speculating over other life in the universe that shall meet the same fate. Who cares? Should we STOP all this crazy ridiculous noise and energy use concerning 'aliens'.. just think how much we shall contribute towards making our own very REAL planet and life forms more sustainable. You want to go see an alien.. go to the bottom of the ocean.. before they all go extinct due to hyper activity on the part of too many excitable humans.
@alithejumbo4 жыл бұрын
@@gammakeraulophon Dude, if all you want is to eat and sleep then go for it. Happy for you! But our species has also other member who WANT TO KNOW if we are alone or not. Nevertheless there is nothing wrong with being ignorant. It's a bless after all.
@gammakeraulophon4 жыл бұрын
@@alithejumbo Life is a mystery. Sure. There are more suns than grains of sand on our beaches. But the conditions of both our planet and our sun are rare.. I understand the impulse toward establishing once and for all whether we are truly alone as a life nurturing planet in the universe. I understand why we are looking for signals and signs. But the distances between points in the universe are so unimaginable.. that our hope of leaving this galaxy (let alone further even) is seriously challenged. We know our sun shall one day turn super nova.. and engulf our planet in flames. That we are lucky right now that we do not live near a more active sun, since even just an extreme flare could wipe us all out in a second and strip our planet of atmosphere. We dream of a spiritual escape on the one hand... And a materialist escape from the planet on the other. And neither right now is proved in certainty. Neither this cult of alien visitation is proven in certainty either. I have no certified way of believing that our current advanced technologies, energy and resource use shall ultimately save us (as a species).. or lead to premature death. (Certainly many species are already dying). The leap into outer space (star trek) seems too far fetched. I'm more of a luddite than a futurist. A realist even! The human population on this planet has only exploded to what it is due to technology and science. Apparently a third of our current global population could not exist were we to rely on natural soil systems alone. But agricultural science in the early 20th century figured out how to introduce nitrogens into biomass, and hence produced artificial fertilizers. Agriculture became a business, and 'feeding the world' became a business model mantra (an ever expanding market). And now we are where we are at now. On a precipice of crisis.. busy terraforming our own world (in our own likeness) to serve only humans. I guess it is natural that humans strive to find the keys to things. But leading a spiritual life has become something regarded as from some erroneous mystic dark age past. And at times (like so many of us) I wish all this buzz and activity would just rescind away.. and leave us some relative peace in ignorance. Wanting to know whether aliens exist, and all of the ecstatic energy consuming circus of speculation that surrounds this topic, is not right now affordable to a realist perspective of priority. Your casual wish to know just costs too much right now. The hopes of SETI fall as empty folly.
@alithejumbo4 жыл бұрын
@@gammakeraulophon OK, so you prefer that our species slow down, stop burning the planet, reduce the blind breeding, stop the foolish wet dreams of physically leaving because it’s not possible, and have some spirituality to cherish what already is before it’s too late. I understand all that. But no matter how spiritual I get (I tried and failed), I can’t image I can give up the enormous ‘curiosity to know’ in return of the ‘peace in ignorance’. I think your preference (peace in ignorance) is against our instinct as a species. If you’ve been lucky enough to control it then you’re a black swan. Most of us are not. We want to know. For us it’s like food, drink and sex. I’m sorry that our boat is one, and we are dragging you with us! But hey look at the (crazy) positive side: if we could ever leave Earth we would leave you behind to enjoy the peace you’re looking for.
