While I like the idea of Hideki Kamiya returning to direct Bayo 3 since we can probably count on the combat from 1 returning and being improved upon, it’s levels like this and Ch. 14 that make me a bit nervous about it... Great run as always, Set!

These mini games aren't bad in the grand scheme of things. I'd dare say they are extremely good because of how accurate they play out when they are just homages to Hideki's favorite arcade games but I do admit they can overstay their welcome. Really the best way to handle this would be to have a chapter dedicated to the mini game rather than having multiple verses where the genre shifts in-between. Like, I'd prefer if the Afterburner game didn't include the Jeanne battle and left that as its own chapter. A win-win for everyone.

@@SetnaroX i'd argue that that chapter played more like space harrier but i'm probably only *almost* as big a sega nerd as kamiya is, considering verse one has a cover of Splash Wave, and verse 3 onwards is Super Hang On with the After Burner theme @ @

@@MattTheSpratt It's Afterburner, not Space Harrier. The way the lock-on system works alongside the rotating screen when dodging is 1:1 Afterburner, specifically the arcade version. Even the achievement for doing a perfect is called "Fire the Afterburners". The only reference it has to Space Harrier is the music of choice that plays in the segment. For a more accurate representation of Space Harrier, The Wonderful 101 has that covered. In the second to last chapter, you control a giant robot RUNNING in space while holding a rocket, just like the title character in Space Harrier. The lock-on system during that mini-game mimics Space Harrier as well.

I’m starting to have a newfound hate for this chapter. Verse 2 on Hard and NSIC is a contender for being one of the worst verses in this game. They put Gracious n’ Glorious on an open field which gives you the impression that you can fight them with enough space except for the fact that there are vehicles still coming your way so you’re forced to fight them on the side of the highway. The rest of the chapter is okay, even though I occasionally get caught by the Beloved when I try to drive in between their legs. Nice performance, wonder how you’ll handle the Paradiso chapters.

It's definitely one of the worst verses to deal with. The only decent way to mitigate this battle is to fight the GG boys on the emergency lanes on the far corners of the road and even then, you don't have nearly as much space when the enemies are so damn fast. I do think this chapter is fun though, especially the first verse where you can fight the enemies on the top of the truck. Easily the best contender for showcasing fancy air combos.

If anyone's still coming back here after years to play this game like I am, I recommend a mix of Scarborough Fair and Shuraba with the acessories Evil Harvest Rosary and Bracelet of Time. Made quick work of Gracious and Glorious with this combo and got a Pure Platinum too.

i fucking fucking fucking fucking fucking hate them, even my dad was watching it like "wow you were so close, those things are unfair" Use the Onyx Roses against them, since their blasts actually stun them per hit and makes it mighty satisfying, especially if you start doing it in the air. It would have been very neat if you could perform a QTE on an incoming vehicle where you bait the angel into the receiving end, or sidestepping it with style as you see it crash into the Angels instead

Honestly this is one of my least favorite chapters. The racing idea was cool, but it just goes on much longer than it honestly needed to. Like if it was just 1 verse (or if the 2 were shorter) it'd be fine, but I just get kinda tired of it (and it doesn't help that getting good combo scores in those 2 verses feels really random).

Combo score requirement for these segments are generally low for the most part, more so on NSIC difficulty.

At the very least you don't take damage if you run into a car that's on the same lane as you, you only take damage from the angels and if you are on the opposite lane, which is an instant kill 😬

i didn't take any pills today or yesterday to see someone beating verse 2 in chapter 8 with pure platinum. it's completely impossible.

This damn verse 2 is crazy. For now it is the hardest verse to no damage, except some of Alfheim portals (first portal in Lost holy ground gives me flashbacks).

I wouldn't say it's the hardest as there's a few verses that are far more frustrating, but this one is just gimmicky because you have to watch for incoming traffic, but you have the emergency lanes to keep yourself away from any cars, but I have a feeling this is a segment where PG wants you to fight them creatively through the use of aerial space. I sorta regret not taking advantage of that for this video.

its so HARD to play bayonetta on normal !! XD I suck so bad at these chapters and you literally have to DODGE every millsecond!!! i play on PC and boy my fingers hurt from clicking, doing combos and having to click shift to dodge all the damn time. it takes so long too

It takes a whole lot of time to get really good at this game. If you're finding yourself constantly dodging to survive, it's best to also learn all of Bayonetta's tools in order to use her offense as defense. Just keep at it. If you need any help on anything, I have a group that's always ready to give advice.

That's some exquisite gameplay--btw how do you dodge offset so consistently? I got the game recently and I sometimes accidentally using the witch twist and portal kick combo. I regret buying those techniques, the game would be perfect without them.

Witch twist/Portal kick is done by pressing P/K while pressing and holding the dodge button at the same time so it could be that you're holding down the dodge button instead of tapping it and pressing it too soon and too close to where you're pressing P/K. To make dodge offset work efficiently, you want to just tap the dodge button after holding P/K for a bit. Try not to be too trigger happy as the whole idea with dodge offset is to space it out and pace it out. If you're still having troubles getting it to work, check and see if you have the Marionette doll equipped. This is equipped automatically if you play the game on the easiest difficulty and it's designed to help you auto-combo and it completely interferes with your playstyle when trying to do advanced mechanics. If not, you can choose to disable Witch Twist/Portal Kick in the menu (select button) and going to the section where the books are located. One of them has a list techniques which an option to disable them. I should tell you those techniques, especially witch twist, are actually very useful so once you master dodge offset, enable them back instead of just straight up ignoring those.

@@SetnaroX I guess I just have a bad habit of holding the RT for too long. I'm on hard difficulty now and I don't have the doll equipped. And I didn't know you could disable them! For now I think Ill leave the portal kick off since it activates way too quickly. Ty for the advice!

The trick is to hold your actual hit buttons a little bit when you’re weaving combos. As long as your holding the hit button before you dodge you’ll trigger the dodge offset.

Well, not entirely. You can still get hurt if you're not careful. If you damage a fiery enemy enough times, they lose their flames for a brief moment, which is why I was doing bullet heel slides; to get rid of the fire. Once it's gone, you're free to attack them physically and as long as they're being juggled, they won't be able to reignite the flames.

I pure platunumed the entire game with cereza,now im doing jeanne and for some reason i keep getting a stone medal on my combo after ending the racing area,im doing the same thing i did as cereza and cant get that combo up,any suggestions?

Jeanne's score requirements are a tad bit different due to her witch time system difference. Instead of the usual x1.5 witch time bonus, Jeanne gets a x2 bonus. The catch is, Jeanne can't trigger witch time through normal means. You HAVE to get those bat withins in order to enter witch time, thus a little extra perfection is needed to play as Jeanne.
