A fun fact about this song, when Shoji Meguro brought Lotus in to record the lyrics for this song he read them and said "Nah man this is wack, this beat goes hard though" and proceeded to freestyle the first verse completely. Reasons why this one is particularly popular are 1) It's kind of an old meme, so it managed to be discovered by more people than usual Persona fanbase. 2) It's the ONLY standart battle theme in P3. Bosses have their own ones but whenever you're in the main dungeon Tartarus, this song is the only song you hear in battles. Tartarus have 264 floors. 3)Extremely basic and catchy chorus. Deep Breath (the version one from the train mission) and Changing of the Seasons are my favorites from 3, I love all of the Persona soundtracks but I always appreciated how P3 embraced an unapologetically weird niche fusion of trip hop, hip hop, pop, and house that can sometimes feel like a more poppy prototype of 2010's era industrial/abstract hip hop at times. P3's music always kind-of felt to me like it was a big risk with the general crowd of Persona fans and I'm happy they took it because it's very nice to have the one that appeals most to my more core tastes to point to when persona music comes up.

Hell yeah, time for BABYBABYBABY to blast through. As cheesy as it is in a lot of ways, it's still probably my favorite normal battle theme in the series. I never got tired of it, just this hip hop beat coming through while desperately fighting to the top of Tartarus. Good stuff. Also, maybe it's not the right place to ask, but has there been any consideration to maybe listening to more tracks from Undertale or Deltarune? Hell, maybe even playing them? They're relatively short indie RPGs with absolutely phenomenal music. Gameplay, characters, and story aren't a slouch either. They're popular for a reason, though some of the songs Toby Fox has put together, like Hopes and Dreams, A Cyber World, Field of Hopes and Dreams, the track literally titled Undertale, and, of course, Megalovania, all of them just take the games from good to amazing. Really would love to see you delve into those games, either through a music reaction or actually playing them. God, watching you play them would be a blast, to see your reactions to the music in the moments they play. Either way, always happy to see more Persona on here.

Persona 3 came out at a time when the landscape of gaming was changing pretty dramatically. Then next-gen consoles were coming out and boasting huge production values and pretty insane visuals. It felt like a lot of older styled games were going to be left behind in this new era. Then Atlus released a turn-based JRPG on what was considered a dead platform, and people who went out and played it instantly fell in love. It had an unmatched art style, incredible music, and a style of gameplay that felt familiar, but new. Mass Destruction is the centerpiece when people mention the music mainly because it stands out so much as it's the main battle theme, but also because as others have mentioned it's been memed into relevance over the years along with "Specialist" from Persona 4.

I used to do the same thing. I had a demo CD for pc games that had a few great tracks (I think it was Chaos Overlords and Muzzle Velocity.) I also had a Top Gun: Hornet's Nest cd that I would listen to in the car. The game was okay but the rock was unparalleled. I don't know the answer to your question but I'll say this. The Persona 3 soundtrack makes you feel cool, like one of those cool kids I'm sure you've heard about. I love how some games take an unexpected music format and set a battle to it (Mrs. Krista Yoslav/Assault Horizon much?) and this game is no exception. You're grooving into battle feeling all cool with your gang rather than... something else. Like, let's say, the "meat grinder" mentality of Doom or some epic orchestral thing. This is good too, but very different in that it doesn't really get you hyped up to take down this boss (at least not me). Maybe you feel like dancing with it instead. Speaking of which... you haven't done Deja Vu/Mrs. Krista Yoslav from Ace Combat: Assault Horizon yet, have you?

The difference between these two versions is the lyrics in the rap... FES is almost an entirely new song except the chorus section. Hell, even the title Mass Destruction is not there anymore. Persona has sad songs (some of them I like more than the happy ones) or songs that make you uncomfortable on purpose (like the one you obviously disliked, made to simulate a panic attack) but those are not the first ones people remember. About the gameplay, they are as special and mixed as their VGM xD Combat is a turn based rpg like OG FF7, but outside of it you have the schedule management genre, because you need to do a lot of things with the time you have, a full school year: -You need to get good grades as a student or is game over -You need to grind exp in combat to be able to win the battles -You need to spend time building relationships with people around you, with the chance of romance :P And kind of visual novel genre with all the stuff you have to read. Stuff that you will remember and will move you, but still a lot to read xD I joke about how one of my best friends got into Persona thanks to me and loves the games, but what if we fight horribly and stop being friends? It would be a horrible thing to be linked to, because maybe he won't be able to enjoy the games the same way any more by association.

This song is great, both ver. in the game, but the one that i like more is the movie ver. i recommend to anyone to listen that and "Fate is in Our Hands", another song in the movie.
Persona 3: Dancing All Night combines the two versions into one definitive track. There's also a Reincarnation version which is also good but not my personal fave. The movies have their own version at one point as well. Another is a version remixed by Atsushi Kitajoh.

I think one of the reasons this song is special is because there's a definite contrast between the gloomy atmosphere of the gameplay sections during which it is played, and the very funky nature of the song. They went with really bold design choices in Persona 3, which is why when it hits, it really slaps, but when it whiffs, well... Not saying they weren't bold with P4 & 5, but those have generally more consistent aesthetics.

Soo since you've opened the floodgates of many a franchise now (FFXIV, Persona, Nier, etc...), I was wondering if you'd be in to open yourself to yet another very prolific fandom... Touhou songs, maybe ?? Obviously the go to choice would be to have you react to U.N. Owen Was Her, but like everyone and their uncles have already reacted to it, that's not fun (if you do end up dipping your toes in Touhou I expect you will get to this song eventually anyways, like it's a rite of passage almost). Instead I would recommend this one : "Entrusting The World to Idols ~ Idolatrize World" (from Touhou 17, one of the newest entries). (Added context in case you're unfamiliar with the franchise, Touhou is a series of shoot em up game that has been running for quite some time now, the first game being released in 1995 or 1996 I believe. It is pretty prolific, the game having 18 numbered main line entries as of today, with multiple official spin off entries. Of note is that every main line game (and *most* spin off games) are all made by a one-man team, ZUN from Team Shanghai Alice, from actual game design/making to composition and etc.. The series is famous for being cited among the video game franchises with the most number of soundtracks, actually I think FFXIV only topped it around Shadowbringers life cycle. It's also famous for its extremely prolific fanbase and its gazillions of fangames and fan "bands" called "circles" that do arranges, remixes and vocal covers of the series' themes. Actually in 2010 the Guinness World Records named Touhou "the most prolific fan-based shooter series". Anyways, I suggested only one song cause otherwise the list of things I'd like to submit would be longer than a CVS receipt, but if you dip into these waters, I guess you'd have a lot to keep yourself busy~)

Just mentioning this, but there's a couple full versions of this song. The two best are the Lotus Juice Remix version used for the movies, and Reincarnation version
