I know he isn't going to see this for a long time, but Shadow of the lowlands is a nod to a track called "we the wounded shall advance into the light" from Xenogears the game in the Xeno-series. They actually took the ps1 game ost years later and added lyrics to it that sounds A LOT like Shadows of the lowland

Leftherian Archipelago is definitely my favorite theme in the game. Spent a lot of time traveling around this map. My mom really enjoyed hearing this theme when i was playing the game in the living room. Lot of good memories.

The Decision reminds me a lot of another one of Mitsuda's tracks in Xenogears, Dark Dawn. Plays during a cutscene with dialogue and made for the cutscene specifically. Shows a very story important moment.

Yoko Shimomura actually did a lot of XC1 songs (Main Theme, Colony 9, Time to Fight, Unfinished Business and a few more), she didn't return in 2 and 3 but Mitsuda made a lot more tracks in those two. He only did Beyond the Sky in 1 as a comparison As for ACE and ACE+ comparison, ACE+ was just ACE and Kenji Hiramatsu From XC2 and now on he's been on his own So the music team didn't change that much aside from Yoko Shimomura!

If I recall correctly, the lyrics in these games' songs were written in Japanese by Mitsuda before he had someone translate them into English to use for the vocals; of course, the lyrics were indeed written with the songs' placements in mind, so this song's lyrics very much do relate to the location.

In my personal opinion, Leftherian Archipelago - Night is the single most beautiful overworld music track in video game history (this is the day theme). I can't think of anything that comes close. And it just keeps getting better and better as the song goes on. As for Shadow of the Lowlands, I prefer the other version, Ever Come To An End. Both are amazing though, and so so unique. How many JRPG city themes are church choir music with lyrics about a people suffering immensely due to dwindling resources, but holding out delusional hope that the heavens, which chose them specifically, will save them someday and guide them to where they're supposed to go?

11:53 Of course there are in-between areas. Gaur Plains, for example. Its one of the many in-between areas between where "Hometown" plays (Colony 9), and where "In the Refugee Camp" plays (Refugee Camp), two "town" like areas. Gaur Plains and Tephra Cave are two of the transitional spaces between towns. Satorl Marsh and Makna Forest are also two transitional spaces between towns. Valak Mountain, Sword Valley, Mechonis Field, Central Factory, and Fallen Arm are the next transitional spaces before you get to the next town, the Machina village. And the music that plays in the Time Trials area is reused from the main game. It reuses Tephra Cave, if Im remembering that right.

13:54 Yoko composed many tracks in XB1, 9 of them off the top of my head. Mitsuda only composed one track. No one composer does all the tracks in XB. Takahashi begged Mitsuda to come back and compose for XB1 because "Xeno games aren't the same without you", and likely that was further into the game's production because he only contributed the ending vocal theme, but nowadays he's back to being one of the main composers of the new Xeno games.

The Answer is one of those themes where knowing the context makes it even better. One of my favorites from the whole series. And to contrast that Shadow of the Landlords is just so beautifully haunting, done by an Icelandic band.

@@LifeMushroom Yeah, Mythra herself isn't one. Of course how she actually ties into the game's story is a spoiler. Since you start with just Rex and Pyra and at some point this Mythra girl who is heavily featured in all trailers and promotional material will need to show up. Honestly there's not a whole lot of games or even anime/manga stories where an extremely important protagonist doesn't show up until you're a good way into the game. I actually wish it was more common. Lately introduced protagonists either tend to either not be very important or are villains turned heroes.
