I took my first solo trip to Egypt right after my 2nd album. When I returned, I could finally see clearly what I needed for myself. I started setting clear boundaries and making changes for the better. My people pleasing nature struggles to this day on what those boundaries are or where I can make better decisions for myself ✨Do you go through this? Share with me some of the ways you choose yourself or how you want to get better at it.

I wasn’t taught boundaries by my parents. I was such a people pleaser and always found it so hard to say No. (Even when I wanted to scream NO) I’ve learned the HARD way and don’t wish that upon anyone. Heal, Love yourself and Always Choose You.

While we're all in quarantine, I've been passing the days by with sadness and confusion for 2 months straight. Anxiety and stress. I don't know how to cope. Even when online school started and I went on Microsoft Teams to learn how to use our new learning platform, I couldn't wrap my head around what was happening. It hasn't been easy to do the schoolwork at all. I'm in the 8th grade, and already got into the highschool I want. I've had a 4.0 all year until school was cancelled, and in my city, they have to give everyone a passing grade of at least a C. I feel incredibly guilty for not doing a lot of the work, because all of my life I prioritized schoolwork above everything else. But now, I'm in a very blessed position where even if I don't do all of it, I'll still be ok. I decided I only care about doing work for certain classes. ELA, Geometry, and Health. I take French at school but I'm learning it much better at home so I'm not doing the French work. I feel so so bad, like I'm letting my teachers down, but I cannot deal with all the schoolwork. It's too much. I feel so lost. I need some outside eyes looking in on my situation to give me feedback. If you're reading this, do you think it's justified that I'm doing work for only 3 classes? (plus learning a language). Is it ok to take this time to figure myself out and keep myself relaxed? I'm just trying to choose myself for ONCE in my life, but I feel bad about it

If we dont then people will use, abuse us and take advantage and take us for granted. Nothing is wrong with not being a people pleaser or a yes man. Word up Alicia you've got the Keys. #kolussus

I feel as though prior to his passing all of our lives were just gogogo and we never stopped to think about ourselves, him included. I wish I would have given him a break by maybe paying his rent one month so he could relax from work and have time to himself but I never got to do that. I need this time to breathe, to exhale, and to find the strength for ME now. RIP to the most beautiful soul I've ever met 🧡

Wonderful! By the way, always remember that *NOT* every choice is a lifetime one, and that you can simply play by ear, using your soul's guidance system. Do what feels right *AT THAT TIME* , and if it won't give you a good result, you'll amend it. It's an evolution process, not a quest for perfection. . PS: if you're reading this, I hope you're having a good day 🙏🏼 . Thank you, Alicia ❤️

Alicia is one of very few artists that I genuinely have respect for. Not because I personally know her, not because I'm a huge fan, but because of how she has solidified her pure positive imagine in an industry that thrives off demeaning women; she never gave in. Even in her own personal relationship, where it could have gone all sorts of negative ways, she maintained herself in a beautiful positive way. I hope she knows how much she inspires women all over the world.💗

Thank you for your words Alicia. You are such an inspiration, especially to young women! I've also learned the hard way. Being a people pleaser, saying no is hard, but I'm getting better at it each day. For the first time in my life, I'm choosing me. And I like it. I'm discovering, setting and accepting my boundaries. I've become better at recognizing toxic people and removing them from my life. People don't always intentionally hurt you or treat you bad, but even so that doesn't mean you should accept their behavior. Let them know your boundaries, be strong and say no. Don't do things at your own expense. Be kind to yourself and do what keeps you happy and healthy. Sounds corny, but it's the truth.

My advice would be four words, "you just do it!" As for an example if a person is drowning in your hand reach would you ask yourself if you should reach out to help? Or would you without thought just do it. Well, imagine that person being yourself. No question about it, you would just do it. Why, because you want to live and not just exist. To live is being active, actively contributing to one's self; fulfillment, health and longevity and spiritual growth. And on the otherhand to just exist is to be inactive, unmeaningful fulfillment (a mundane form of life) and dull and leading to oppression and or depression, so forth. Every morning, that the FATHER allows you to see, choose to make room for you too, daily. You're worth it. And in that place you will finally 👂 and 👀 what you've been too busy to hear and see. My hope is that a whole new world will open up to you ❤that you didn't know was there, tranquility, harmony and inner peace. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN ALWAYS ❤

Alicia girl, you are speaking directly to the deepest parts of my soul. So excited to purchase your book and share with my family and community. Thank you for using your platform to share this message. to everyone reading, you are allowed to say no. Sometimes saying no feels challenging and overwhelming though. Saying no and setting boundaries doesn’t make you a mean or selfish person. You can set boundaries and say no and be a positive, loving, spiritual, conscious, and kind person.

I choose some years ago to choose to say no to pleasing other people and doing things I didn't want to do according to other peoples agenda. When I learned to say No! They pushed back and still try to use their manipulations and so I choose to separate myself from these people who don't respect my boundaries. I'm in a better place mentally, physically and spiritually. Gardening during this pandemic has taken on a more even paced spirituality. Growing fruit trees , medicinal plants ,and fresh vegatables. Experimenting with different new plants has made me more in tune with creation and myself.I don't seek anyone's approval or acceptance, learning how to give myself time to be creative ,to just be me and enjoy living my life.

As a Rotenese girl... I always said yes to everyone because it means respect. I can't say no ...no matter how educate I am , even I make my own money... It is a big NO to say no ... I have no right on my own body ... I feel bad if I can't please people.. this is a wonderful massage for me... I Will learn how to set boundaries and stand up for my self... Even it means I gonna lose them.. but I found me... Love from Rote, Indonesia

During this virus outbreak, i feel like we had the opportunity to have time to realize what's important in our lives. Im typing this from my new laptop as i begin to embark on loving myself and giving to myself. We need to sit down and collect ourselves and choose ourselves too. While it's a great thing to give to others, we have to give to ourselves also. In Jesus name. God bless you, Queen Alicia!!!

learning to set my boundaries was one of the best and most challenging things I ever had to do and it's paid off, living in a different world where there is a place for me. On the other hand I've been trying to show my wife how she can fully own herself and learning to draw lines of her own, it's been hard. Thank you Alicia

That’s one thing I’m learning is to put my priorities first and setting boundaries, saying no is quite hard to having those feelings in feeling bad in the aftermath, but it’s worth being selfless and the time you could motivate yourself in doing better things and to also have a peace of mind is totally worth it especially if your a parent

Doing your best to set and maintain boundaries has become so important as a grown woman. So many things come for us on a daily basis. Prioritizing our personal goals and interests is just as important as serving and being there for those we love. They co-exist. Thanks Alicia for the reminder.

I loved Alicia's book and took a lot from it, but after watching this video I had to express something that has been on my mind after reading lots of books about self love during quarantine. My comment is not directed towards Alicia or to say she is wrong, my intention (as a individual who grew up in poverty like Alicia) is to add on to her message. I think we need to keep in mind that a lot of people in this world do not have the privilege to say no, because for some to say no is to say no to a home for your children, to say no would be saying no to food for your family, to say no is to say no to healthcare for an illness. Its hard to accept in this "self-care" era that there are people that don't have the power to say no, but its real. Alicia is a major inspirational figure among black female talents who started from practically nothing, but the majority of black women do not even have the resources to freely pursue passions or contemplate boundaries. And who should we question for making it so? All I have to say is VOTE! Speak up, read, listen, donate. We all need inspiration like Alicia, but we all have the power to make life better for our neighbors.

My how you have grown. I love what I'm hearing from you and your heart seems to be in the right place. I remember when you first started out, I heard the late great Issac Hayes talking about you when he was on kiss f.m, saying these words.."this young lady, is going to be a Superstar". He would be so very proud of the woman you turned out to be. Saying NO, is a BIG DEAL. Kudos Miss Keys. God's blessing on you.
