In Today's video I will show you the global grid system and explain how it works. I will then jump to CAD to show you how to create a local coordinate system for your job and this will be part one covering local coordinate system and next week in part 2 I will transform the grid and show you all the rest you need to know about it. If you like it please leave thumbs up and write some comment!
Any questions in the comment and please subscribe to my channel :) Thanks!

Great video again always look forward to them when new ones come up! I remember when I was a chainman years ago my senior engineer had a formula in his calculator for this and getting co ordinates was all done manually aswell on a drawing and worked out changed days eh! Iam just glad iam using a TS16 😄

Hi Jamie! Yeah, I remember the times, putting everything manually into the EDM and first of course calculator job with coordinates and dimensions :) Robotics are really good, but I think once someone worked like before will understand better and in many cases will be a better engineer. New equipment makes people bit lazy and too much reliant on it makes nearly impossible to spot some mistake. Thanks for comment Jamie, happy to hear you like the vids!

@@SITENG Spot on! The robotics do make people abit lazy I think as all the information is there for you and you don't need to work anything out just upload it and away you go! Great videos mate really informative and something I don't think anyone has done and it's really good for all the young up and coming engineers to see what actually happens out on the park! 👍

@@happyfish7260 I believe you would have to come back to global, get the latitude and longitude and then conver it to DMS, but to be honest I have never done it before so I can't really help you.

can you make a video how you enter in a construction site first day and interpret the controll point ,and a way or 2 methods to test , if the control points are indeed what you need , and how do you set out a CONTROL POINT FOR hight or datum

I do resection with 3 points, but is not only number of points, but different angle and distance (EDM calculates position based on angles and distances), so the best would be have a 1 target 'close' to you than 90-120 degrees next one with further distance and the third one - optimally another 90-120 degrees.

Evening Greg what function are you using to set the local grid? Is it point Id
@SITENG
@SITENG 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tony! It's UCS - you are 'creating' your local grid (set new cartesian system in the position and rotation you want). Id point I use to check the coordinates.

Hi I'm an architectural technologist and we normally have to put Northern and Eastern coordinates on our drawings for guys on site to use to set out the building, kerbs etc, my question is how exactly do you use the coordinates that we have shown on our drawings to set out the building, what does that process look like?
@SITENG
@SITENG 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Emmanuel! All the building is set to your coordinates so make no mistake 😁 Typically there is a surveyor coming to site and set a control points - points with known co-ordinates and levels so engineers on site can set the instrument based on them. After setting the total station we are using your co-ordinates to set up the building and all other elements. From you we need grid lines set out and at least co-ordinates to grid line crossing eg. 1/A and 1/G so we know how the GL is orientated. When we have these we can create the local grid to make it easier to set out 😁

@@SITENG Hi, I have another question, how do you join two slabs together?, so if for example I had an existing slab and I wanted to join a new slab to the existing, how would I tie the two slabs together?
@SITENG
@SITENG 2 жыл бұрын
Do you mean a construction joint, or some old existing slab with a new one. Normally you have a splice bars left in construction joint for the next pour, you can check on one of my vids. If it's connecting old one with a new pour there would be some drilling needed to provide proper connection (might be drilling and fixing rebar, or some special connectors) - in this case there should be proper inspection made before works to check existing slab condition.

I know theres also a formula for the calculator to convert coordinates
@SITENG
@SITENG 3 жыл бұрын
Tony, There is and I will tell more about it in next video, but I won't be using calculator for it :) You have to transform your grid to your new local and this requires transformation formula. Because we know coordinates in local and we have corresponding points in global we will use a spreadsheet for it (and Cad maybe too) , spreadsheet will be on my LinkedIn.
