Brilliant video! If you can include in you next video how you find and create control points ?(X,Y,Z) and if you can show how you present as built to PM or a client ?

Thanks Yuri! I will do that in next week's one 😊 about the as built I'll make some too, but you have to wait bit more.

Greig, What do you reckon benefits are of using local grid over keeping it in national? Just jumped onto a job and engineer is using national for setting out a frame. I’ve always put them into locals but thinking about it now, don’t really work chainages and offsetts off like the old days, just plug them into the machine using the line work of the dxf, so is there much benefit of changing to local? Also a hastle sending over AB’s ect as have to convert them back. Cheers, Joe
@SITENG2 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe! I use local grid only with manual stations like TS06 where local grid is a game changer 😁 it would be useful for robotics in some cases but taking all pros and cons I am keeping all in national grid if I can use DXF etc. One of the reasons for it is, if there is any setting out mistake (design) people will be trying to blame you for not using the original co-ordinates and trying to blame your transformation for it (remember they often don't understand what they are talking about and you might not have a chance to prove you're right anyway).

Hi mate. I'm just entering to this role and learn . Your videos are really helpful. Where can I download the excel spreadsheet for global to local transformation.? Thank you

Hi Gregg thanks for the videos. How do you determine the level of a point without GPS? People keep mentioning manholes?
@SITENG3 жыл бұрын
Hi Simon! Information about the levels is provided by the client, so I actually have the height on my EDM after resection. What about the manhole?

What was the command you used at 5:06 when you were assigning coordinates to the new grid
@SITENG2 жыл бұрын
I was just showing the lines (clicking on them) and explaining how Eastings and Northings running. I use a move command to move drawing later to position I want.

Hello mate, it was an amazing video but the only thing is which button you press after you type in 5000. Because I’m pressing (TAB) and then 2000 and it changes into minus coordinates rather than showing what you did.. If you could reply that would be amazing. Thanks.
@SITENG2 жыл бұрын
maybe just try right arrow instead of tab to type in the other coordinate. I am not really sure what's the problem, it should be the same - this will be your CAD settings.

Which MS is better in UK? MS in structure OR MS as a site engineer?
@SITENG3 жыл бұрын
Hi Talha! Hard to say, depends what you want to do really. If it's on site it doesn't really matter much as you can do site engineer job and go higher and higher. Structure might be good as you can change your career later from site to design and then you would probably need more structural knowledge :)

Great video! What is the career progression for a site engineer ? and can site engineers hop on to be a quantity surveyor ?
@SITENG3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Elango! Site engineer is a start really so you go do whatever you like, going into more senior engineering role, or project management. Quantity surveying is possible too, but in this case you would have to start from assistant level again, although your knowledge from the field would be very useful.

If you want to take back the drawing to global from local you write plan on cad then select world option
@SITENG3 жыл бұрын
you need to have it in global first and then you can keep 2 separate drawings. One in local and one in global.

Hi Greg, can you help me with know what level to crop piles?
@SITENG3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jack! Everything should be on the drawings and it's typically 75mm into the element (pile projection).

Hi everyone. I am very familiar with the setting out procedure on site when I have known control points to set up the station over. However, I have been giving the task of setting out a new extension to an existing building. The CAD drawing has the existing building with the extension present but no proper X,Y,Z co-ordinates on it. There is also no known control point anywhere on this site. Can someone please assist me on how I go about setting out this building?? Any help would be great
@SITENG3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I would shoot the existing building and set a ref line a work with it, as it really will be your 'local system' where you will be using offset as x and length of line as y. Let me know if you need more explanation.👍👍👍
