You got that right Jeff, that's a fun area to weld the quarter to the rocker!

James, Loved the tip to get rustproofing in welded joints! I always use seamsealer, but sometime seamsealer fails and you have a perfect spot for rust to start between the two pieces of metal. I have tried weld through primer, but it usually contaminates the weld. I liked your idea of rustproofing thinned applied with syringe needle. Also, the lower seam on a quarter tips are AWESOME! Thanks for posting!
@jamesfreddys7 жыл бұрын
Michael Wagstaff the syringe idea was Rogers we always used a coffee stir straw but hey whatever works.

looks like it is fitting real well Jeff. Love the detail and explanation. Good advice about that front quarter to rocker weld. Its a bear!

Wes Perry have you been in the situation?
@perrywe17 жыл бұрын
Yes, replaced both quarters on my 69. Tough to get positioned to weld in that area.

Thanks so much for discussing the bottom weld joint between the door and the wheel opening. I have another question, at that seam between the door and wheel opening, the front next to the door, my Goodmark full quarter panel has about 3/16" gap, the back next to the wheel opening is perfect. I need to correct the gapgap i tried to roll int bend down but it didn't work, as i see it my only option is to cut it, spread it then reweld? Opions?

Hi James, love watching you do first class work!👍. Was curious, could panel bond adhesive be used in that problem area, quarter to rocker?
@DoubleRRestorations7 жыл бұрын
Still not sure about that flange area on my 72 Jeff. No access panel there. I thought about cutting one, then welding it back. I'm not sure if I can reach it through the vent in the jam.
@DoubleRRestorations7 жыл бұрын
Also great video!
@jamesfreddys7 жыл бұрын
You second gen guys definitely have an even more impossible task there some say you could Panel bond it and other say you could section it in or like you stated cut and section in the inner quarter.
@DoubleRRestorations7 жыл бұрын
jamesfreddys Thanks Jeff. Thats what I was thinking. I think I would feel better with it welded. I want to keep the factory seam there also. Going to do some thinking.

What brand of quarter panels AMD or dynacob.i am having some issues with a AMD on the rt quarter and going fit the left one tomorrow. The rt quarter window area is about a 1/4 out on the 68 I’m working on.

Shes looking nice Jeff. I was wondering if you ever use cleco's or a spot welder instead of plug welds?
@jamesfreddys7 жыл бұрын
Jerry's This and That I would use a spot welder if I had one but they're pretty spendy.

When you care more for the weld quality then your health when welding galvanised steel ... says quality all the way! Looks cold over in Tucson LOL :D For the focussing.. Have you tried manual focussing and setting it to infinite instead of autofocus? Looking good buddy!
@jamesfreddys7 жыл бұрын
BelgianMuscle I will definitely give the infinite a try thanks. When I tried manual focus I started feeling like an inadequate Ansel Adams lol. I scrub as much galvy as I can off the rockers so I don’t have to breathe all that toxicity. You rock man thanks for the help.
@BelgianMuscle7 жыл бұрын
jamesfreddys well, the fact you know of Ansel Adams says to me you'll figure it out👍

I have the same quarter panel issue,but the only access on a 2nd gen is through the vent hole,I was think’in bout training a mouse to weld but them tiny welders are pretty pricy,Mr Fireman164 suggested making an access panel on the inside another suggestion was to cut up a perfectly good quarter and section it in ....any thoughts??😳🙄🤔 sure have stepped up your game with this vid 👍
@jamesfreddys7 жыл бұрын
Barb Sedo you could r&i the inner quarter.

What do you think about using panel bonding adhesive were the quarter panel meets the rocker?
@jamesfreddys7 жыл бұрын
bougi66 I think panel bonding adhesive can be a great alternative for some projects there are times where I wished I had just glued the whole damn quarter on. Lol. It’s something I would like to try and learn more about the long term performance as I’m sure it’s fine but I’m no engineer.
@messylaura7 жыл бұрын
if the welds inside the qtr are so hard to get to why not weld the qtr in that spot while its off...................... great vid, good seeing you doing what you do
@jamesfreddys7 жыл бұрын
