Pretty sure that's a Redington Dually

So is that a good technique for setting the hook on other fish? New to fly fishing..im strugglin with the hookset

I think it's a good setting technique for most fish that you'd be swinging flies for. If you're swinging for trout it works pretty well. Some folks say that salmon are hard mouthed so you need to set more with them than other fish. But for other types of fishing, like nymphing or dry fly fishing you will need to do a more active form of setting to consistently hook fish.

Thoughts on carrying a loop or no loop?

None of us here at the shop carry loops. That said, we have no proof whether the hook up ratio between the people who do/don't carry loops leans either way haha. When it comes down to it, you're never going to get a good hook set 100% of the time.
