I am really enjoying the content you are putting out this year. I need to step up my channel but as you know trying to record and work bees at the same time is very time consuming. Time that I don't always have. I have a lot of 2 frame nuc boxes that I use for emergency slits, but I built some 3 framers a couple of years ago and if I have enough recourses for planned mated queen splits I use those for the added time benefit and makes for stronger 5 frame nucs when I move them up. Opened a big colony today with emerging queens. Found 7 queens and 4 queen cells. Made 11 splits. Caught it just in time , finding 7 queens running around in a Deep and 3 med packed full of bees, That took some time. 10 cells will be ready from my first graft ever come Tuesday. But the timing of the cold front coming to south Ga. Monday and Tuesday has me concerned. Emerging day would be Friday. I may wait till Wednesday afternoon to move the cells. Keep up the great content Thank You

Did they fly off as you installed? How did you know they flew off? Introducing a queen should be done in a cage with candy so the bees can get to know her. Maybe the hive wasn't really queenless? Were the queen and the hive the same types of bees? As in, putting a russian queen into an Italian hive? That is trouble. Many reasons it could happen ...🙃

Dragon flys not really a issue here now. Another month and they will come after our queens along with other things. Hope you the best

I love the dragonflies AND hate them. Usually they are in force here in June July but the rains are what really make the difference with them😯 They sit right on the hives eating bees so ,yeah, queens are easy pickins! Thanks for watching! Have a bountiful season!🍯🐝🎥

Is it true that a virgin queen wont mate with male from same hive?

the virgins fly to mate, they could mate with their own drones but they have to compete with other drones.All mating is done up to a mile or more away to minimize inbreeding. If only her hive's drones are available, she will mate with them. The queen will not mate INSIDE her own hive. (very rarely) A well bred Q will be mated by as many as 20 to 50 drones.
