Hi David Chris from the UK. Great vids, I am learning a lot from them. I am a first year beekeeper, I have done a the two beginner courses. Theory and Practical. And now have my first 12 bar Nuc installed 01 August 19, they are doing fine. Soon putting them away for the winter. Still a lot to learn and you are helping, Many thank.

what I love about these is you use the same frame as your typical deep. I tried using the mini frames and it became such a hassle to try and support the mini frames in a standard deep box.

David i built my mating nucs off your plans and they work AWESOME! I was just at y'all's store Saturday to pick up my nuc and wanted to mention Jimmy and Heather are SO FRIENDLY, KNOWLEDGEABLE AND HELPFUL! In fact Heather is so helpful i went to carry some stuff out to my truck and heard someone not far behind. When i looked back it was a beautiful young lady toten a nuc plum full of bees to put in the bed of my truck. I didn't intend for her to lift that HEAVY thing and was going to come back in and get it. A sight i'm likely to never forget is a beautiful girl toten a box full of bees across the street in downtown Chatsworth :) WAY ABOVE AND BEYOND AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE and SATISFACTION! It was the bee's, but not so much the bee's last year that impressed me to be a return customer this year. Honestly y'all are a class act outfit with CLASS ACT CUSTOMER CARE and not to mention something that's nearly GONE WITH THE WIND.....100 % PURE SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY!

Thank You David, been watching a lot of your videos, because you use the same methods as I do. I’ve been keeping bees for about 5-6 years. But end up losing them over Winter, only to have to buy them again every Spring, Extremely Frustrating. But I was trying So Hard not to use very much Pesticides. Going to start using lots now. I even tried using the OTS method, On/The/Spot, which worked pretty well. But I was in the middle of moving, and couldn’t take care of them. Might try again someday. I’ve used the Queen Castle two years and had Success both of them. All four mated and returned both years. I really like your Basically Queen Castle Split Up. I want to try those tiny Nucs, I believe they’ll work Great. Thanks again for all your videos. Keep Buzzing Along.

Great video, you have a nice and productive yet simple style, I like it. I have 3 frame queen castles and I had trouble raising laying workers in the middle nuc. Perhaps the pheremones from the other ones made a conflict for the middle one? I certainly will try your technique here to see if I can get some better results. Once again, thanks for sharing, from Canada

These are some of the best ideas I've seen out there! So practical that maybe even I could keep bees successfully. It actually makes me excited! I was wondering- could this mating nuc be downsized slightly to work with medium frames? I'm thinking of going with one size box for my whole operation and would like to use medium 8 frame boxes...Thanks so much for sharing!

So basically, you can make queens without seeing queen cells if you have day old eggs and the bees will make a queen out of it. The new queen flies off and comes back to the hive it flew from. One flew the cuckoo's nest and then came back.

How late is too late to make walk away splits like this? I'm in central Texas. I made one successful spit in March, but 3 didn't produce Queen. But I'm still trying. I'm trying not to take eggs from my two production hives. Or if I can, could you make video on how to do that without demoralizing the colonies? Thanks for all the videos you make available for us all to learn from.

Great channel. I am in the UK but always interesting to see how it is done elsewhere. I like your approach - very natural - letting the bees make their own queens who then mate naturally. I also really like that you allow them lots of natural comb so they can raise as many drones as they want to.

Fun video. I like your experiment. I'm curious what you think about how far away to put smaller nucs and mini nuc style stuff to keep them from being overwhelmed by nearby large bee hives, especially with a bee yard like yours. Its also really fun to see your bee yard and the rows of hive boxes. It looks very clean and peaceful.

Hi David, really love your videos. I saw you gave a dimension list to another commenter, but was wondering if you'd consider making a video of you actually building one. I'm not great at woodworking, and seeing people actually building equipment encourages me. Also, a while back, you made a video of yourself building a fat bee man style feeder for your mini mating nucs. They looked great, but you don't seem to be using them. Was wondering why. Wish I lived closer (central Florida) so I could visit. Maybe one day, but meanwhile keep those videos coming. Thanks again!

When I make my mating NUCs and load them with a ready to emerge queen cell, how far from the donor hive do the NUCs need to be? I'm thinking that the majority of bees in the NUC are nurse bees so it's likely they will stay with the brood. I only have a half acre to work with so, do I need to find a location far away for the NUCs?
