It seems that Gitea is not in the Vultr Marketplace any more...

Hmmm...The workaround would be then to pick a normal linux instance and install Gitea manually

Why would I want to do this instead of just using github with github desktop which I can set up in 2 or 3 minutes? I pay £10 a month for my Unreal engine 5 project and get 100gb of GIT LFS storage. The only minor problem I can foresee with how GIT works is that while my project is currently around 50GB it does jump up in size over time because I am checking in the same files over and over again so if I make a tiny change to a 1gb file and check that file in and repeat the same thing 5 times then I am using 5gb of extra storage. So the storage does eventually go up to 100GB for my project. So what I do is backup my git project whenever that happens with a "one click script" and then I reset my repository to delete the "history". I also have 2 hard drives with the projects history saved in case I ever need it (which is very unlikely). To me this £10 a month is the quickest and easiest method for me as a small indie developer. However I would like to expand and get other developers to work on this project with me. (2 or 3 unreal engine devs working on a single project), So I am looking for better solutions because the more people working on the project at the same time will mean that I will need to either pay more for storage or backup once every few weeks which would not be ideal. Unfortunately by looking at this video I do not see the benefits of exploring gitea as it does not look to be any easier to use to me, it does not diff binary files in a smart way like perforce to save storage space so I do not see the benefit of using it? If you have any other videos that you think would change my mind please do let me know as I would prefer to give £10 or £20 to a smaller company like Gitea so I can stop paying that to microsoft.

Next to costs at a larger scale, you also get performance benefits, because you can pick a datacenter that is closer to you. I would not consider setting up an own Git server when you are a team of 3, but more when you are a team of 10 or more. Storage on GitHub is not the issue, it's the traffic. More people produce more traffic due to pulling files. A self hosted Git server will give you more cost benefits here. Some companies also have the requirement to keep data in the country due to GDPR etc. With self-hosting you can comply to this. Another benefit is if you use something like Vultr, you already are familiar with a IaaS provider, in case you need it to run your game. To host updates, multiplayer etc.
