Nice Video. Your explanations are always clear and easy to understand. I was hoping that you may have an answer to my problem. I have a DHI-NVR4216-16P-4KS2 NVR and have connected 1 Dahua camera and 2 Hikvision cameras. The Dahua camera works ok on smart search playback when connected to the NVR but when I connect via the PC the smart search icon is not there. With the Hikvision cameras it lets me go through the process but it always comes back with "There is no motion detected data in current region" and I know there is (Hikvision cameras DS-2CD2185FWD-I). Hope you can help, thanks in advance.

Very informative with really useful tips. The most immediate problem I have, which isn't covered here, is how to increase the screen resolution or font/menu size of Smart PSS. On my Surface Pro the fonts/menus are almost too small to read and there is no obvious way to increase them without altering the device display settings. All other software on the device display normally so I don't want to stuff up all other programmes just to accommodate Smart PSS (this aspect is not so Smart!). eg Just trying to click on the miniature X, to close a Device and go back to the main menu, becomes extremely difficult. Software developers tend to be very resistant to making their programmes user friendly, & this is a good example. The Help manual is overwhelming and also doesn't address this primary usability issue. God help anyone trying to use Smart PSS on smaller computer screens who don't have eagle eye vision! The other thing I hope you might address in another tutorial is setting a camera up. I'm a newbie and find my camera is recording full time instead of just on motion detection or within a selected zone. There are a lot of abbreviations used and they are not expanded when hovering over with a mouse. This jargon makes it a steep learning curve for the home or business amateur. Thanks for what you have done here. Really appreciated.

I will do a video on setting camera recording (i actually think i have one) In terms of screen res, have you tried changing the default settings in Windows for the app? right click properties on the app icon and select compatibility. Under this menu there are options for screen res. You could also change the DPI setting in Windows but that will change it globally. Otherwise just use the web log in in your browser.

I don't understand why you would create a username and password for the SPSS client > login to that > then input the same username and password when adding an NVR to your list. That makes sense only if each NVR have it's own unique Username and password. If that is the case, that should have been explained. It would have been nice to see you configure the username and password of each NVR, or at least explain that that was the methodology. The way this video is directed would suggest the username and passwords for the NVR's are setup during the first execution of the SPSS client (which in my head is so weird).

Great video, I'm new to this system and I have a question. I downloaded SmartPSS v2 on my PC and I cannot connect to any NVRs model: W-NVR5216. In another CPU with Smart PSS V1 I have no problem. I know all the IPs and admin/passwords are correct because I can connect to all NVRs on PC with v1. There must be a solution to this issue, I must use SmartPSS v2 on this other PC. HELP PLEASE! Thank you!

For anyone that is looking to have the camera no longer call home. Make sure to turn off the P2P inside of the Cameras WebUI, Setup, Network, P2P depending on the model it might be on the left or it might be inside TCP/IP area. Your looking for P2P. Turning this off will make it so it won't access internet and you no longer will have access from outside your internet.. Keep in mind that as of 2019 and 2020 most cameras Dahua has made it that if they are not connected in some way to the internet the cameras won't playback footage off the WebUI and Micro SD.. Also another way to no longer have access to the internet is give your cameras a fake IP address that isn't in your routers list of IPs that have access to the Internet. Like on a NVR Switch the IP are 10.1.1.xx so in this instance make 10.1.2.xx where the xx is a number for your camera, This only good if your normal network isn't 10.1.2.xx and or as long as you don't open more IP with in your Subnet.. So if you have 192.168.x.xx for your normal network range, Set your IP cameras to static IPs outside that range and your router will not let them access the internet.. Also keep in mind that if you change your range for the IP cameras you will want to setup that range in your computer by adding Static IP's in your computers network, You setup your main IP range static, Then on the TCP/IP v4 where you setup your static IP on the bottom is Advanced, click that then click add in there type in the IP address for the range you have for your cameras and subnet as normal apply and now your computer has 2 Static IP address and you can now access the WebUI of the cameras and you computer can still access the internet and network as expected..

My gdmss app has just randomly stopped connecting to my 2 cctv cameras on my mobile phone. It says login timeout. On my laptop, it says offline cannot connect just like it shows in your video. I am guessing it is to do with the ip address, but I have no idea how to find the cameras ip address. I had a company set everything up for me, and when I changed my internet provider, I managed to set everything back up ok, however, now several months later, they aren't connecting. Can you please advise me how I find the cctv cameras ip address? I have tried putting in the TalkTalk router ip address, but that didn't work. I have pressed auto search and signed in using the ip addresses that come through on the auto search but that didn't work. It is a nightmare. Many thanks.

sounds like those cameras went offline. maybe they unplugged, or faulty. Start by checking the wiring and if possible put a test camera at the site where the ones are offline. Its unlikely for IP addresses to randomly change, so if all were working and then just stopped seeing two cameras, it sounds more like hardware issue - ie fault in the connection.

Login time out ...on phone is mostly due to the internet connexion (Slow) or camera network fail ...Test your local network (camera -------->Network Box).....For IP download IP ANGRY to see IPs in your local network......or CONFIG TOOL (Dahua devices)

thank you. Yes you can use a PC instead of the embedded NVRs. Many people use PC / servers as their recorder. In the old days that's what we did with graphic video cards that had 8/12/16 channels with the analogue cameras connected directly to the graphics card of the computer. Just set your computer to never sleep.
