Bar, this is a really intersting exercise, and great to see some new ideas for a temporary set up. and the simulator looks to be a very convenient visual tool. Good stuff;-)

Awesome! I’ve been following your videos, because I love what you have been doing. I’m looking forward to setting up a Maslow on the outside wall of my tiny 12 x 16 shop. It will be the perfect setup for my situation.

Part of the “plus factor” for me is that anywhere I can put four anchors roughly the right distance from each other I’ve got what I need. Nice day and want to work outside with a full 4x8? Four points on the driveway and I’m done. Precise work on a 2x2 panel in the winter? Four points in my cramped basement workshop and I’m done. Really appreciate this kind of “spark my thinking” video. And a whole lot more thanks for the consistent comms on the KS - such a breath of fresh air.

I bought a bed rug for my F150 it came with two strips of Velcro that double sided tape on them that holds the bed rug in the truck as you go down the road. You can get rolls of Velcro at your local box store and the double sided tape. Lay the Velcro down so that it will be inside the car tires on the floor, they would have to be about a foot long in four places.

Oh I love that idea! I think that would work super well

I switched from a giant vertical frame in my back yard to the garage floor. Will not go back to the wood frame. So much easier to set the belts from the floor than having to climb a ladder.
@maslowcnc12 күн бұрын
I agree! Being able to work horizontal was just an accidental benefit of having four belts, but after using it in both orientations I prefer horizontal
@PhillipDuggan16 сағат бұрын
@@maslowcnc When you say you prefer horizontal, is that just from the ease of setup/space? Or are there other reasons you prefer horizontal?

Cool simulator! Although I may want to do a 4x8 panel on occasion, I suspect that most of my work will be done with 4x4 panels. So, I like the idea of being able to specify the work surface dimensions. Regarding the limits on belt length, I'd like to know what kinds of add-on belts could be used in situations where a mount point is a bit further away.
@maslowcnc12 күн бұрын
There has been some discussion about building add-ons to extend the belt lengths further, but we haven't done much testing there. It's 100% possible and a pretty simple change on the firmware side, we just need someone with an interest in doing it and who is willing to do testing

I love the idea of the anchors in the garage like that. Question about the simulator. I am assuming that the rectangle in the middle is supposed represent a 4x8 sheet of plywood? Could you add a way to change the size we are wanting to cut, I have a smaller area and looking to cut out of a 4x4 sheet of plywood and would love to use this to figure out that size.
@maslowcnc12 күн бұрын
Yes, that is an excellent suggestion and shouldn't be hard to do

When using the simulator, is there a color legend you could add that briefly explains what type of performance to expect with the different shades, so folks can make informed decisions about what's acceptable for them vs not?
@maslowcnc12 күн бұрын
I love that idea. Its tricky to quantify things like that with Maslow because it's all pretty subjective. It's going to be pretty dependent on a lot of other factors like the material being cut, is it vertical or horizontal, how fast is it cutting, how deep is it cutting, what type of router bit is being used..etc
@megashub12 күн бұрын
Sadly, with as much equipment and shelving as I have lining the walls of my small garage, I just can't make a floor-based approach work for me. I'd really like more focus put back on the vertical approach, because sometimes that's really all people can fit. So much time has been spent recently with Maslows running on the floor, I'm concerned we're neglecting a big reason why people might buy a Maslow (vertical). So, I think rapidly iterating on framing standards to find an optimal, lowest flex, pragmatic design standard is something to be prioritized.
@maslowcnc12 күн бұрын
I 100% plan on always making sure that both options are great. Is there something that you are finding works in horizontal that isn't working in vertical?
@rolfnilsen63855 күн бұрын
Agreed. Then there are the breakdown table options some have done as well. Those are also interesting. At least for me who have a non-planar floor in the garage as the drainage is in the center together with a mechanics service pit.

This is way interesting I have been trying to figure out how to attach a Maslow using the side of my Promaster 2500 highroof with some sort of collapsible frame, but staking it out in an open space woudl also work and wouldnt take up much van living space
@maslowcnc12 күн бұрын
Exactly! I think that you could even literally drive stakes into the ground (as long as it's reasonably flat) and then cut anywhere!
@ThisOldChris12 күн бұрын
You could also install the anchor points outside.
@maslowcnc12 күн бұрын
Outside, like outside of the garage on the driveway? You 100% could, but it's very very cold here right now, and I want to be inside 😛

It seems like the demonstrations of the project have slowly moved away from the wall-leaning orientation. Does that still work with Maslow 4.1? I imagine there is more stress on the two motors with the hanging belts. Is there any evidence that would be bad for the system in the long term? Just curious.
@maslowcnc12 күн бұрын
Yes, you can absolutely still use it upright. I've just found that I prefer the horizontal orientation. I think that it's easier to work with, and in my tiny garage I wouldn't be able to fit a frame to do upright

Is the inner rectangle a full sheet? 1200 x 2400?

It's a standard US 4x8 sheet of plywood (basically yes)

How careful do you need to be about placing the spoil board relative to the anchor points? I presume that when you set up the Maslow, you need to be cautious about connecting each belt to the same anchor as it was connected to during calibration, right?
@maslowcnc12 күн бұрын
The placement of the spoil board doesn't really matter at all. You do want to get it aligned so that all the parts you are cutting will fit on the board, but other than that the alignment isn't important. You do need to connect the belts to the same anchor points that they were connected to during calibration. The calibration process finds the exact XY coordinates of each anchor point so unless they are a PERFECT square rotating them will change things
@moofie7412 күн бұрын
@ Cool, that’s what my intuition told me. Thanks for the answer!

could the simulator give the dimensions for that inner green boundary? (and probably add a note that its wanting measurements in millimeters)
@maslowcnc13 күн бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. I couldn't come up with what the right way to define that boundary is though. Do we want to know the dimensions of the rectangle with the largest surface area which can fit in the green? The longest rectangle which can fit in the green?
@GMichaelBridge13 күн бұрын
@@maslowcnc or add 2 more input fields for 'work piece size' to see how something would fit within the boundaries?

OK, I have some bad news. I wrote my own CAD software (it's a long story) and the .stl file that it's generating for the wall anchor is like 85 mb for some reason.
