This was very insightful, thank you. It's weird how you described almost exactly what I have been planning to write: a poetry book where the poems are all a part of a story and the reader has to connect the dots.

Omg I’m totally in the same boat as you. I’m writing a poetry book with a plot, and cannot figure out how to organize the poems and I’ve ALSO been googling and desperately trying to figure out how to do this. It’s really nice to see someone also trying to figure this concept out. 😊

Wow! I love your organization, and you mostly have everything planned out! This was LITERALLY the only video that I could find covering the whole brainstorming/planning of a poetry book. I am also planning on including illustrations (drawn/painted by my best friend) with every poem as well as a famous quote to go with each. I don't have a storyline, but my poems will have a common theme (title is Blessed Beyond Measure)

This actually super helpful. I have a collection of similar themed poems forming-not so narrative like yours but Still as someone who is used to writing fiction books and not poetry books this is cool to see someone else’s process!

This has honestly been in my top 5 of the best 9 minutes and 23 seconds I've ever spent! I honestly never thought about constructing an outline and formulating each aspect (as its own entity) that would later coincide into a greater collective. I thought that you could only do this with books! Thank you so much for illuminating and shedding light on a more philosophical depth of "poetic" justice!

My current poetry notebooks are a big ol' mess in different languages. I have a hard time staying on track and it shows. First time seeing a video of yours. Interesting looking at how you organized it.

Your poetry book is lovely - you have a great eye for graphic design! You should see MY poetry rough drafts - hahahaha. Crazy indecipherable scribbles. I love that your poetry book has a story woven through it - my poetry books are much more random - they have common themes and the continuity of my voice but none has a narrative arc yet. Coincidentally, a few months ago, I started a new poetry book all about my solo pilgrimage across Europe - it's coming along slowly though because I'm trying to finish a novel - and you know firsthand how tricky it is to change mindsets on a dime. I wish I had your natural ability to write stories!! Best of luck with your poetry. Your prose is poetic already, actually . especially your shape-shifting scenes. There's so much poetry in your fiction.

You HAVE to let me know when you finish your solo journey across Europe! That sounds so life-changing!!! And thank you for pointing out the poetic-ness of my prose. Poetry used to be very daunting for me, so I guess I never let myself think I could ever actually WRITE it. Good luck with your novel!

I know this video is a little bit old, but I'm posting a reply anyway. :D I wish I had seen your post earlier, before I published my first poetry book this year! Likewise, I didn't see much information swimming around, so it was a bit of work. But it's done! Thanks for sharing. I use a notebook similarly to yours but...your penmanship is sooo much better. :)

You've put so much thought into each poem and its planning, I'm very impressed and jealous! But yeah, I'm trying to put together a poetry book too and there's like no thorough enough tutorials out there. Standard formatting sure, but I've yet to find how I'm getting any traditional artwork into my book easily even though that's become a bit of a norm.

I was wondering, are you going to self-publish it when you finish it? Or are you going to try and get a traditional publish label?
@WynterCannatelli5 жыл бұрын
I'm going the self-publishing route for this project! There are a lot of things I want to do with the book visually, and I'm a super control freak when it comes to this kind of stuff, haha.

Thank you for this. I'm noticing the same issues. I just need help figuring out how to format it in google docs and there aren't enough videos on how to do this properly. I feel like I'm going into this blind. Either way, I'm going to get it done!

Yeah, the problem with Google Docs is how limiting it is compared to regular word programs. Good luck!

I'm not exactly an expert on poetry books, as I just pretty much went with what felt good to me. In my opinion, there isn't a set number amount of poems you HAVE to have. It's all about the depth of the collection and if you feel you've accomplished what you set out to accomplish.

Do you have any advice on being a poetry vlogger? I’d love to start doing that.
@WynterCannatelli4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Why I probably wouldn't call myself a poetry vlogger, I do think that the most important thing in making these kinds of videos is to be authentic. Yeah, it's fun to make things pretty and definitely take into consideration what people might want, but I always make sure to be real and enjoy what I'm doing. Hope this helps!
