Just bought a new trailer and had the dealer install this hitch, I felt so comfortable and safe towing it home on my 2 hr drive home. Highly recommend getting one, even if it’s not this brand.

Great video! Thanks! I love my Equalizer hitch. It did take a minute to get it set correctly the first time. But since then, it has been worry and hassle free. All I do is clean and grease on top of the square sockets. I always feel in control when towing.

This just came up in my feed, as I am had searched Equalizer to ensure I was setting up my new 1400/14,000 lb hitch correctly. This has helped my verify that I'm doing it correctly. But man moving those bars in new sockets is hard.
@DinkGear Жыл бұрын
Nice!... It is easiest to use the jack to lift the entire setup then just pop the bars on
@bricknboxer2 жыл бұрын
Your initial setup was fine. I saw 48 3/8 front measurement, halfway back to stock height. Spring bar on the L bracket alignment is corrected by loosening L bracket mounts and adjusting until resting evenly. Raising or lowering L bracket height is equivalent to adding or removing a washer in the hitch head.
@dusdroadadventures79783 жыл бұрын
The dealer installed one of my L bracket not plumb. Which caused the stabilizer bar to run on one side of the bottom of the L brackets. All because they didn’t tighten them plumb with the RV frame.
@nismomike3182 Жыл бұрын
Just curious, could you have removed washers to stop from being "over adjusted"? If so, would that have allowed the bars to sit level in the L-brackets for maximum contact/sway control?
@treadlightlyservicesllc.19302 жыл бұрын
You should get the nylon spacers for the L brackets it dramatically quiets down the movement of the hitch and would allow your bars to be contacting all the way across
@DinkGear2 жыл бұрын
At the time of purchase the 1600/16000 equalizer bars did not come with the spacers. Last I checked they still don't make them for it. Only 12K and under

You said after you put the bars for WD you were 48 1/2". You then moved brackets and it took the front end down too much. You then put the brackets back to where they originated and were at 48.25. How did you achieve that? with the airbags?

I'm thinking about buying this very equalizer but it sure seems like a lot of work to get it set up right. I have a toy hauler and I'd have to load the ATV up and everything I'll be taking camping THEN install the equalizer. And I'd have to find flat ground too since my street drops a good 4 inches to the curb.

Picking up our new 36” camper on April 13th I ordered the same hitch. I have a 2002 f250 with bags and a leveling kit. This is helpful but I couldn’t help but notice you never did get the bars to sit flat on the brackets. I would think that not using the full potential of the of the contacting surface that you are in just as bad a spot as being over adjusted.
@DinkGear2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I got them to sit flat on the brackets. They were slightly off level. I loosened the nuts tapped them level and re-torqued them back down. I have to say the 4 point is amazing. We have over 3000 miles on them with zero sway since installation. If I know it will be windy, I crank them down to about 75 ft lbs.

@bricknboxer2 жыл бұрын
With WD bars in place his front measurement was 48 3/8 from what I saw, halfway back to stock height which is the goal here. He should have corrected the L bracket issue by loosening the L bracket and aligning it so the spring bar sat level on the pad.
@donpetry59382 жыл бұрын
Has anyone seen a variance in where to level the trailer, what's best/correct? from a couple points on the frame/hitch or using level inside on floor, counter, fridge ?? im not sure is a level fridge would also be a level trailer frame/hitch.
@DinkGear2 жыл бұрын
I know that when I put a level on my floor inside, it is different in front and back ... same goes for on the countertops. Just for laughs on these long trailers, put a level in middle, front and back and on counters. They will all be different. I find it best to go from ground to trailer frame for determining level when installing WD hitch as this is the main tow structure (Frame to hitch assembly)

I woulda taken out a washer cuz you really need ur bars parallel. Nice video though 😊
@bruceb195811 ай бұрын
washers have nothing to do with how the bars are parallel or not. That's the L bracket set up only.

@@bruceb1958I believe that he meant a washer should have been removed AFTER raising the L-bracket one hole. That would have compensated for the over-weight distribution scenario.

I was under the impression that you shouldn’t use air bags with a WD hitch. Is that not true?
@DinkGear2 жыл бұрын
It is perfectly fine. It requires a different setup. More air removes wd pressure as you are raising the rear of the vehicle. As you see, I only put 20-25 psi. This allows for a more comfortable ride. Recheck specs after inflation is done and make sure you are still within manufacturers specs for wd.

@@DinkGear First off well done on the video I work on a lot of first-time projects or stuff for friends and your video was straightforward step-by-step easy to understand. When it was all said and done the front end of my truck only lifted a quarter of an inch which I thought was a win but my trailer isn’t completely level, it is a little low in the front.
@DinkGear3 жыл бұрын
@@robertarnold2949 a little low in the front is ok. Usually when it starts level and the weight is added to the hitch you end up with a little downward slope to the front of the trailer which is normal and good. Make sure your sway bars and L brackets are parallel to the trailer frame. If you are outside of your WD required specs for proper WD per the manual and need a little more or less transferred back to the front axles... look at adding or removing washers (which changes the angle of the hitch head).
@rockymtnhighadventures3 жыл бұрын
@@robertarnold2949 If you have the right amount of weight distribution but the trailer is still more than 1.25" lower in the front than the back, then you might need to raise the height of the hitch ball.
