Great video Marcus. Is that a kalk reactor in the sump? What brand is it and how do you feed it? Mind doing a video? Thanks for all your fantastic videos
@ReefNerd4 жыл бұрын
Yes it is, the Avast Marine K1. Its fed by a cheap single head dosing pump I reviewed in my very first ever video! I will do a video specifically on Kalkwasser in the future!
@Geordiereefer4 жыл бұрын
Nice. Will you eventually go 100% calcium reactor or do you think you will always have some form of dosing pump set up too?
@ReefNerd4 жыл бұрын
I think I will always have something dosing extra to the tank, like trace elements, amino acids, carbon dosing, kalkwasser etc.. etc... theres always something :P

Hy Is the reactor still running? Are you happy with this reactor? I think about a AC2 pro for my tank. Make the reactor a lot of noise? Greetings from Austria
@ReefNerd3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, its doing a great job! Its close enough to silent, faintest noise only with my head right up close to it.

Hi Marcus, just setting my unit up, but just want to confirm the little black flap in the media chamber needs to be open? I can’t quiet see if it is in the video. Cheers Gaz

Yes that should be opened completely.

Hello, are you still running the reactor ? What is your overall opinion on this reactor, i‘ve read a lot of negatives opinons about it on r2r forum
@ReefNerd4 жыл бұрын
Yes I sure am, I have been running it for about 9 months now, and am really happy with it. I have had no issues or complaints, it just works, the calcfeeder pro controller also makes it super simple to just press the up arrow or down arrow accordingly to increase or decrease your dosage rate if you see your alkalinity drifting in one direction.

Nice video of install Marcus, one question as I’m looking at buying one of these to replace my Deltec, I’m fed up with the hissing sound of the co2 going through, how quiet is this reactor when running, can you hear the co2 running or pump noise? Thanks Gaz
@ReefNerd4 жыл бұрын
It’s very quiet. Certainly can’t hear any co2 hissing. There it’s a faint trickling noise but you have to be very close to it with the cabinet door open to hear it. The stepper motor on the calcfeeder pro controller is very quiet too

Hi Marcus I’ve been running these units for about a month, just wondering the media your using and the ph and dkh your getting. Thanks Tom
@ReefNerd3 жыл бұрын
I am running ARM coarse and a bit of the two little fishies magnesium media mixed in. I couldnt tell you the PH and DKH as I dont run a PH probe in the reactor (I use their pro controller with the optical sensor for controlling CO2 levels) and its been a long time since I tested the effluent DKH, from memory it was about 50?-ish,,, could be wrong... In any case, effluent strength is less important than reactor stability, and to achieve that, run degas once or twice a week and aim to dial in a dose rate that results in consistent Alk in your display tank at the level your shooting for

Where do you bought the controller please.

Any local fish store that stocks Pacific Sun products will be able to get it for you. What country are you in? I suggest reaching out to Pacific Sun on their facebook page and they can direct you to the nearest dealer.

MARCUS ONE QUESTION WHAT YOU USED TO FEED THE REACTOR YOU T OF THE MAIN PUMP OR USED A SEPARATE PUMP T.U. JOSE
@ReefNerd5 жыл бұрын
the reactor comes with its own 'smart' feed pump and controller which also automatically controls the solenoid to your CO2 bottle as well
@MASTERSURGEON045 жыл бұрын
THANKS MARCUS I THINKING IN BY ONE BECAUSE I WAS GOING TO BY THE AQUARIUM ENGINEERING ONE BUT IS $1400.00 AMERICAN DOLLARS THE DIFFERENCE IS THAT ACE HAS A SWITCHING MODULE TO SWITCH FROM TWO CO2 BOTTLE AUTOMATIC WHEN ONE CO2 FINISH STAR THE NEW ONE AUTO T.U.JOSE.

@@ReefNerd HI MARCUS I LIKE TO KNOW HOW THE CONTROLLER IS CONNECTED TO THE CO2 SOLENOID VALVE I DON'T SEE IN THE VIDEO TANK YOU JOSE.
@ReefNerd5 жыл бұрын
@@MASTERSURGEON04 The CO2 solenoid is included with the controller, it plugs straight into it. Pause the video at 4.17. You can see the black co2 solenoid with the red tubing going in and out of it. The cord from the solenoid plugs into the bottom of the controller (big thick black cable on the right hand side bottom of the controller).

How is the unit going mate, keeping up with demand, any issues etc. I just purchased one wondering how its running 6 months in

Really well, its currently dosing at about 3.2L an hour to maintain about 7.2DKh on my tank. This is a bit less than half its maximum flow rate, so doing a great job on my tank

I thought you can just dose? Reefing for noobs can get a little too much information overload
@ReefNerd4 жыл бұрын
Certainly at first dosing can be easier to get your head around, and calcium reactors may be overkill for many smaller or new tanks. However long term many reefers end up moving to calcium reactors as they are extremely low maintenance and low running cost once the initial outlay and setup is done.
