I think you should add that after reversing on to your pitch, or levelling the van, to pull forward a couple of inches to "decompress" the hitch, otherwise the moment it comes off the towball it will ping forward and clout the back of your bumper! Also showing how and why you need to level the van across the axle first is important, then levelling end to end using the jockey wheel handle is the final stage.

It is important to get the caravan as level as possible, one good reason is so the shower drains properly.

And the kitchen sink and the bathroom sink and so you're not sitting or lying on a 45 degree angle! The level is also required for the fridge to operate properly, to stop things rolling off the table, etc, etc! The guy should of checked and corrected level from side to side as well as back to front. All very we'll to level with the jockey wheel but a jack is also required for side to side.

I recently attended the CC course on manoeuvring and I am sure they told us to pull up the jockey wheel after setting down the steadies - any comments?

No, the jockey wheel also supports the weight. The steadies are exactly that - steadies! They're not jacks and shouldn't take ALL the weight. They steady the van when you're moving about inside. If you retract the jockey wheel the entire caravan weight is then on the steadies only. The weight should be distributed between the road wheels and jockey wheel, with the steadies stabilising the van, not the entire van weight entrusted to the steadies.

I struggle with this video because, whilst the advice given might be top hole, there is no attempt to describe WHY one has to perform these actions. They guy in the video obviously knows his onions but "I am not a number". :-)
