Just used mines for the first time 26/08/2022 in the hills above Fort William, Scotland and i have a few little things i wanna say. First off, you need an air mattress under the foam one, the foam one just decompresses too much but you can add an air mattress (mines cost £8) and just keep it in the tent when its rolled up without adding any real bulk. Use this under the air mattress and it is comfy. When we were camping i was initially warm but some really heavy fog rolled thorugh and i was freezing, so unless camping at the height of summer id recommend a warmer sleeping bag for the other 3 months of the year. Id also recommend another ground sheet so when you climb out of the tent you're not climbing onto wet gress or rocks. at 6ft im at the height limit of this tent, you will not be able to use it past this really.
@wingmanoftheroad2 жыл бұрын
Hey Shaun, glad you christened your goose with a it’s virgin trip. First of many I hope! Thanks for your initial thoughts, we always value customer feedback. Your completely right if the foam mattress isn’t enough for you, you can double up with a cheap inflatable. We chose not to use inflatables as they don’t last and we wouldn’t warranty them. As you say, it easy to pick up one cheaply if you need too. I understand that it can get cold suddenly in Scotland. Apologies you were cold. If you want to add more warmth to our bag we recommend purchasing a sleeping bag liner. There great, cheap and can add another level of comfort if it’s partially cold. (Info regarding this is on our FAQs on our website) you can leave the liner in the roll and it won’t add to the bulk. With regards to the the ground sheet/Tarp. This is the exact purpose of the cover. Instead of using a bag we chose to wrap the system up in a waterproof tarp. That way it’s useful and you can position it wherever you want (it is not necessary to keep the cover under the tent, the bottom of the tent is a thick PVC) hope this helps. The dimensions of the goose one the toucan are on the website the toucan in 15cm longer (215cm). As I said thanks for your feedback Shaun and for your business. I hope you’ve got some more last minute camping planned this summer. Nice profile pic by the way ;) All the best

@wingmanoftheroad2 жыл бұрын
@@JJohnson1340 We’ve been making these systems for many years now and these comments have been coming up from day one. It’s a pretty lazy comment and not an absolute. Assess the situation your camping in. See what’s best for the bike your riding, the ground you are on and your surroundings you are in. I have a wide kickstand plate/puck I use, keep it in my jacket and throw it down when I set up camp. Do you know how many times I’ve had a kickstand disappear into the ground at night and the bike fall over….Never. I have been at rallies before and had a drunk guy fall into my bike knocking it over slamming it heavy to the ground. It fell over on the opposite side of the kickstand. I wouldn’t want to be sleeping under it when that happened. That’s why a lot of the time I would set up with a secure kickstand between me and the bike. In some conditions I will set the wingman up on the other side for sure, sometimes I will set it up without the bike completely. We’ve had 7 years of camping and prototyping this system in different conditions. As well as 5 years of customers using them. I guess we never read “rule 1” about sleeping next to your bike in the owners manual. 😜 Could have saved us a lot of time 😂 anyway, to each there own buddy.

I own one of these. If the bike fell over there is more than enough room for the bike to fall beside you vs on you. 😂 Unless you’re sleeping under the awning. 😂Loving mine!

I have one of these, pretty happy with it. A few comments tho. Is it better to set the tent up on the kickstand side of the bike, or the side opposite? I'm thinking of the rare possibility of the bike tipping over. The other comment I have is that it's difficult to zip up the screen, the door, and the sleeping bag while in the tent because the tent is too short to sit upright in. The way I solve this is to tie a long piece of paracord through the sleeping bag zipper and lay it out next to the bag. Once I have the tent completely closed, I grab the paracord and use it to zip up the sleeping bag while laying down. It's a very good tent but its short height presents problems such as the one above as well as that it's difficult if not impossible to change clothes inside the tent. If it were tall enough to sit up in, it would be a much better tent.
@wingmanoftheroad4 жыл бұрын
Hi Rhombus, can’t seem to see you on our customer list but maybe your using a different name? You can mount the goose at either side of your bike or not have it attached to the bike at all. Completely your choice. 🙂 Personally I like to have a secured kick stand on a piece of wood or a crushed can between me and the bike. If you have it attached the other way and your a heavy guy that didn’t peg down the tent, you roll over in the night and get a face full of bike. I don’t know how likely this is and there is no right answer. depends on the bike and the ground. You’ll instinctively know whats best for you in that situation. 👍 With regards to your chord on the sleeping bag. Haven’t heard of this being a problem before but makes perfect sense. If it works you it’s a great Great idea! Yes the goose isn’t a tent for sitting up in or spending a lot of time in whilst awake. Due to the dimensions. It is a solution to throw up quick and have a comfortable place to sleep for the night. Thank you for you feedback we really appreciate it. I Hope you enjoy it for what it is 👍

@wingmanoftheroad2 жыл бұрын
Hey Buddy, at 6.5 you’ll fit but you won’t have much wiggle room! It will be fine for you to throw up for a place to crash for the night. If your thinking about a long motorcycle trip camping every night. You would have more space in a “Toucan” as it’s longer. Having said that the “Goose” would be a better fit for a sportster. As far as attaching a wingman to the sportster, it depends on a lot of things and varies from bike to bike but customers always find a way! We recommend “Rok straps” for attaching and securing the roll. Hope this helps James 👊😊

This tent seduces me. I have some doubts that in none of the videos I saw till the moment, nobody showed or talked about. 1- The big wing when closed rests over the water poodles even if the groundsheet is in place? 2-Is it possible to maintain it clean ( not contacting with the ground)? 3- The included sleeping bag offers what type of confort and isolation? Has it two faces? Is it built in the mat cover or detachable? 4- His function is only to be a blankett or a matress cover? 4-Is it necessary to take with us a normal ( summer/winter) sleeping bag in addition? 5- The pouch provided to keep the tent poles has enough space to accommodate two additional poles for the awning? 6- The toucan allows a 1.78m/ 5"9 person to sit inside? Thank you
@wingmanoftheroad4 жыл бұрын
Hi Fernando! Thank you for your questions. I don’t think I understand them completely so might need clarification. I’ll do my best 1: That flap when closed would either rest on the ground or you could tie the excess on flap to the center pole keeping it off the ground or alternatively tuck it under the tent or the groundsheet. 2: yes you don’t need it pegged to the ground. The goose completely keep us its own shape without pegs or the bike 3&4: The bag is 2/3 season. If your going somewhere very cold we recommend you get a winter fleece liner bag. Both the sleeping bag and mattress cover is completely detachable (all this info regarding the sleeping bag and mattress is ok the website) 5: yes the pole pouch has enough space to fit awning poles too. 6: The inside height of both the Toucan and the goose are on the website. Hope this answers your questions! All the best

Hi, I have never heard of one blowing away. However, if your leaving it at a campsite you would preferably peg it down or alternatively weigh it down with a jacket inside or something heavy and lock it up. It does have quite a bit of weight to it already being canvas and having mattress and sleeping bag inside but to be sure I would do this. If your sleeping in the tent it will be sturdy in the heavy wind even if not pegged. Hope this answers your question 👍

You can set up the goose on the other side if you wish. Or completely separate from the bike all together. No problem Jeff. It’s personal preference. I have a kickstand plate and am confident in my ability to secure it. Personally I like a kick between me and the bike. In case a person or animal falls into the bike and the bike falls on the tent when I’m sleeping. What ever makes you sleep easier ;). Both scenarios, a person falling into the bike or a kickstand sinking are unlikely. Personally, I feel like I can control the latter by confidently securing the bike with a log or kickstand plate. Either way we haven’t had any customers with problems with this. People can judge and use common sense 👍

@wingmanoftheroad3 жыл бұрын
The tent is definitely four season. Being canvas it keeps you warm but is very breathable and in the summer there is plenty of ventilation optionals. The sleeping bag however is a 2-3 season bag. As it gets warm in the tent due to the small space we opted for a lighter bag to suit most climates and riders. If you are planning a winter trip or you do get particularly cold I recommend you purchase a winter liner for the sleeping bag (it’s a thin silk or fleece sack that goes inside the sleeping bag) which you can purchase from most camping/outdoor shops. Alternatively you can just remove the bag from the mattress (if you have a sleeping bag you prefer). The mattress is high density foam. 5cm thickness.

The only bad thing is, if you wanne close the tent completely, you always have to loose the flap from the bike again. Doenst make sense, and I don't know why you are not changing that and make a double flap on that side. Then it would be the perfect tent for bikers. The only reason me and a couple friends hasn't bought it yet is that flap construction mistake. The rest is perfect. Regards
@wingmanoftheroad4 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan, Thanks for your thoughts. I understand your concerns. There is a couple of reasons we haven’t added an extra flap. The main one being, the feedback from our customers that actually use it. Most of our customers do like having that side open or with the net. Having it attached to your bike it makes the small space seem bigger. There are very few occasions where you would want to completely close yourself in. In these rare occasions you can do it, you just wrap your gear in the extra waterproof tarp. The second reason is the extra bulk it would give to the roll. Adding an extra 2m x 1m canvas side would add significantly to the weight and size of the roll. Plus when this side is rolled up it would seriously encroach on the limited head height inside the tent. I get what your saying, really I do. It’s just So far it’s not been an issue to most of our customers so not worth the sacrifices mentioned. However, We are working on a couple of extra add on products for next year. One of which is a flap that can zip-in for customers that want that option 👍

@@wingmanoftheroad nice that you will change some thing. Pretty sure it will make a lot of people happy. I'm in a big group of bikers and all of them can't get the things that you try to explain. I can understand that the customer for now do not have a problem because they bought it like it is. And the weight? Come on does it make a difference of 2kg? Can't be that bad. Size of the roll? How much can that be 10 cm? I don't know, but we think it can't not be a big deal... And look at the moment a lot of us use normal swags, so size and weight is heavier... But the idea with the flap and putting stuff between tent and bike is perfect. Having it a bit more secured, but defnetly Noone of us would but the flap always from the bike or even let the tent alway open. Having a choice to have it on different ways make it more interesting for more people...

Dan Man living the Dream, As I said. We’re planning to sell an extra flap so people like yourself that want the extra flap that don’t mind about the weight and bulk will have the option to zip it on. Best of both worlds 👌Honestly give the product a go. Practically. Before you decide what you don’t like about it 👍

Well, it does look simple and it’s a tempting buy . The issue I have is whether it would fit on the back of my T100, which has no rack, a bench seat and a tail tidy. Even strapped down I would be concerned with it staying on board. Please advise. Thank you .
@wingmanoftheroad3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jamie. We have had customers do it before. As you see I have a T100 myself. I have attached a Goose with Rokstraps from the frame, if you have a flat style bench seat. It is obviously more secure on a rack. That’s why I use that option.

These aren't a tent if you carry ya bedding in them. There a newer style of a Aussie Swag where they still use Canvas for them. A swag is a traditional Australian canvas bad roll with a mattress inside. Basically, it is a large sleeping bag with a built-in mattress. Essentially looking like a small one person tent, these swags zip up the entire way, covering your whole body including your head. Perfect for every season, being waterproof from rain, warm for winter, and bug proof for the hotter months.

I hope your buddy actually uses the product he bought, notices the benefits of canvas and ease of our system and laughs at you guys on his next camping trip. He might still think it’s to big for him and go back to his old plastic tent but I hope he would make that decision on his own. Ride safe Johnson 👍

That’s not only small but super heavy at 10kg Why not just get a a decent 2 man backpacking tent. Lighter (>2.5kg) larger, cheaper and easier to set up. Or a one man trekking pole tent at < 1kg and packs down to the size of a 1ltr water bottle. Don’t get the idea at all sorry. So it slashing down where you going cook in comfort you can’t sit up in it. What do you if you want invite the mrs etc. why use canvas when there so many lighter materials options. Did I see fibreglass poles! It must be like having a pillion on the back of the bike, mind you doesn’t look like you take the triumph too far off the road. Well done for the idea but why re-invent the wheel.
@wingmanoftheroad Жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew, If you want a light weight backpacking tent this isn’t the system for you. There are many great options if weight is your primary focus it’s best to stick to a synthetic plastic tent. As we designed this for motorcycle travel not backpacking we can get away with more weight, we chose to use the best material for the job not the lightest. There are so many benefits with canvas compared to plastics. One massive reason is comfort and the fact that it breathes, you can have a single layer of canvas that’s waterproof and also eliminates any condensation. Unlike plastic tents when you need an inner and an outer tent and all the inner tent does is keep you away from the wet and condensation on the inside of the outer tent. Canvas is also massively robust. Fantastic in high winds. The list goes on. More info on why we chose canvas can be found on our website under “why canvas” We don’t make just a tent. It’s and all in one camping solution with sleeping bag and mattress included. Made to “roll out and roll in” easily in the dark after a long ride. We don’t claim to be everybody’s cup of tea, but customers who are actually using our design and products out on the road get it and like it. We appreciate that. www.trustpilot.com/review/www.wingmanoftheroad.com Thanks for your comment Andrew. I hope I explained a little bit about why we do what we do.
