How to set up radio settings to decode CW (Morse Code) on the Elecraft KX3. It can be a bit confusing however this short and simple video will have you decoding CW in no time!

Nice video! It was very helpful to me. I turned off the decode feature and for the life of me I couldn't find the section of the manual to set it up again. Your video came to the rescue and I am happily decoding again. Thanks de n0wdm.

This was so helpful to me in getting CW decoding going on my KX2. Thank you. For some reason the Elecraft manual was confusing to me (on this item).

Glad you like them! I have others since this one was posted. On KX3 VOX, direct freqency input, antenna control adjustment, etc.

N4KTZ de W0QR Steve the key to working with the data modes is to load the KX3 terminal program. You not only can see CW decode but you can send CW, PSK, RTTy via your keyboard and decode it on a dedicated screen. You have to use the adapter cable (usb for me). It's the same as the firmware updates only you select a different tab.

I had a tough time following the manual for the CW decode and thought the video may help some people. I am still trying to figure out the manual to hear data modes. I guess I am going to have to get an interface to do it correctly and see it (and transmit correctly) on computer! 73's Steven

I know this is a bit late and you may already have found this out.... I see that your preamp is on and it sounds like the RF gain is at 0. On noisy bands, like 40M, I have had the best luck running FAST AGC, preamp off and riding the RF gain down... The Decoder is fighting all the background noise on top of everything else and you end up with a lot of EE*E***E*E***EEE kind of things.

+John Wells Thank you for the tip on the KX3....I do not get to use it as much as I would like but plan to getting back into using it regularly.

You might have a little more success is you tighten up your filter a bit. It looks pretty wide open for CW. The KX3 manual suggests a filter bandwidth of 300hz or less for optimal decoding.

The W1AW bulletin on 7047.5 kHz is great for code practice. 73 Lynn NG9D

you know I could remove your post however I am leaving it cause you look so dumb. Many people have been helped through this video and in order to get the most information in shortest time I had to show "how to"...if I leave it to long then people complain all they saw was boring CW. You probably do not even know morse code so you have to have a reader to know what is being said. I have an idea, learn the code and you will not need a decoder.

That was not a "Sloppy signal" It was a bug and you need to use your brain and ears to copy.

I've found my ears better so far than the decoder, and I'm still only learning.

Sorry, the manual is far better than this bumbling explanation.............
