I just purchased a used K3 and found this video an excellent source of basic user information. Thanks so much. Dave K8WPE

Cheers Dave, glad you could put up with my 'droney' voice for so long. I've had my K3 for 10 years now, use it every day, such a great rig, I hope you have as much fun with it as I have (+15k QSOs), hope to meet you on the QCX challenge some time! 73 de Keith GW4OKT

Frank, you did a great job on this. Thanks for putting this video up.

One of the best Ham Radio videos on youtube. You did an excellent Job of demonstrating the K3 control set. With that said I have to admit I am not loving the confused multi function button usage of the K3, it's a radio begging for more real estate.

Very nice video, Thanks

Well my friend G3UFO has the 950 and is very pleased with it....on the other hand, the K3 has such a small footprint and it is very light (I do love it)...my personal choice would be the K3 as I find the 'tinkering' facilities very easy to use. PLUS the support from Gary Surrency at Elecraft is fantastic. I had a few issues with my K2 and he helped me solve them, also gave me a hand to update an old K2 for a friend. If you are a CW man, the APF on the K3 is very good also. cheers Keith

Very kind of you to say so Steve, thanks a lot. it wasn't scripted - I just talked about the functions from left to right (ish!) cheers Keith

Save your money Tom...go for the K2! The ultimate QRP rig and a better Rx than the K3. Plus you can easily build it yourself. Cheers Keith GW4OKT

In the UK, there are 11 band segments allocated between 5258.5 and 5406.5 kHz, (see RSGB 60m bandplan). The K3 covers all of these.

I must disagree. The KX3 is the ultimate QRP rig. I really enjoy it! 73, WA3RSL

I ordered the K3. I have not the patience to build this thing. In my younger years I would have enjoyed that experience, but now in middle age I just want to operate the radio.

K3 owners, if you persist in producing more of these videos, especially the ones in 1080 HD, I am going to be forced into ordering a fully loaded K3.

Go for it if you get the chance Gary....its definitely Formula 1.

Had to limit to 15 mins HD so crunched it there. Left it as a basic intro. cheers Keith

Thank you for your comments, you flatter me to be honest, but it was entirely unscripted, I just commented on the functions from left to right more or less. It is surprising how you do get used to the functions BUT when you don't use them all the time you do forget what to do. One of the issue I have as a CW op is that sometimes, if I hold BAND down button by mistake, rather than tap....I turn off the VOX! So yes, it is a little crowded on that panel! cheers Keith

I want either the K3 or the Yaesu FT-950. It is a very difficult choice that has me really indecisive.

Tnx - they are a great rig....I still think the K2 is the best RX though, good luck 73 de Keith

Is there a part 2? seems to abrubtly end at the start of the CW decode instructions.

What are the correct CW frequency readouts on the K3 for the 60-meter channels?
@g4okt4 жыл бұрын
It varies slightly, depending on which country you are in. For the UK, it can be (kHz) 5258.5 - 5264, 5298 - 5307, 5313 - 5323, my favourite is 5354 - 5358, 5362 - 5374.5 is also used. (5262 is a commonly used QRP frequency).

@@g4okt Thanks. I'm interested in knowing the K3 frequency display in CW for USA 60-meter channels.
@g4okt4 жыл бұрын
@@jazz4asahel Rgr - here you go.....Channel 1: 5330.5 kHz Channel 2: 5346.5 kHz Channel 3: 5357.0 kHz Channel 4: 5371.5 kHz Channel 5: 5403.5 kHz, these are channels with 2.8kHz bandwidth, so you have some space to move a little when on CW!

I dumped the K3. It just felt wrong, kit quality w/o a solid build.
