I’m pretty sure the only reason Setuf asserts “her” feminine pronouns is to claim the right to share an opinion about abortion…since many believe these rights are for women only. Maybe they need to change that to ONLY THOSE WITH WOMBS or ONLY THOSE WHO CAN BECOME PREGNANT have the right to discuss and debate abortion. Then perhaps Setuf will stop calling in.
@barryweatherley5046
@barryweatherley5046 2 жыл бұрын
@Jarod Armstrong you mean like no body asked for yours but you give it anyway? Actually, when it comes to having an opinion you are right. But when it comes to voicing them in protest then I believe, as do many, that the debate on women’s rights should be left to the women. What a woman chooses to do with her body is her business. End of discussion.

So does this mean that if an animal can't give consent it's bad to have sex with them but ok to torture and kill them for the taste of their flesh? For the record: I'm a meat eater and I have cognitive dissonance about it but at least I have the guts to admit it. I've also never had sex with an animal, at least not yet.

“Torture” is loaded I don’t think most people who eat meat are ok with torturing the animals. Also most people extend some moral worth to non-humans just not coequal with humans. Therefore bestiality, killing them purely for sport, or inhumanly slaughtering them (what you probably meant by torture) wouldn’t be ok but killing them for food would be. Make it as painless as possible and use every part. Just note though that I don’t take this view. I believe morality exists only within social contracts so while I wouldn’t want to torture or molest an animal I don’t grant them moral worth and would have a viscerally negative reaction to those that do. I don’t think people necessarily have moral worth

@@andyrihn1 a lesser form of rape is still torturous surely? In what universe is fisting and inseminating a sentient creature not torturous? These creatures are aware of what reproduction is, they're aware of what mating is and in most situations choose a mate. Most people don't see female on male rape as rape, do you think that makes it lesser?

well whether you don’t care is essentially irrelevant. if someone associates with a gender not generally accepted when looking at them they may have a bone to pick, so to speak, and it will matter very much to THEM. respecting pronouns is basically showing effort to progress thinking, and has a social benefit. if it’s too much trouble then just do what you do; it’s only a big problem when considering the idea en masse, i.e., on social media I suppose, which is another way of saying where children bother fussing over shit anonymously.

Lo and behold, Setuf went on a journey of self discovery and realized that he was in fact a she and called in next time with female pronouns. Or, alternatively, gave dishonest pronouns to "troll" the show. So I'll forgive some smarminess on the host's part.

Johnny, I don't mean to shit on your view about slavery in the modern world, but Amnesty international and several other similar reporting agencies consistently estimate (even at the low end) that there are more people enslaved today than there were over the course of *THE ENTIRE COURSE/DURATION* of the North Atlantic Slave Trade. The upper estimates of the North Atlantic Slave Trade put the total number of slaves transported from Africa in the neighbourhood of 25,000,000 individuals. Currently, estimates suggest between 25,000,000 - 40,000,000 slaves *(enslaved NOW)* with a not insignificant portion of them in the western world (incl. my neighbours to the south) being held in sexual slavery, in debt bondage or other forms of enslavement spanning industries as varied as prostitution, domestic help and textiles manufacturing. Also, whereas the slavery of the past is characterized by outrageous, brutal violence, there was a strong incentive to keep your slaves alive and able to work. Broken...but able to produce. The cost to purchase a replacement was prohibitive. Adjusted for inflation and depending on where/when the slave auction took place, a strong, healthy black male of working age would likely cost the equivalent of $20,000-$40,000 Today the average cost to buy a human being ranges between $80-$110 *AND THAT'S NOT A TYPO* ....the unfortunate consequence of that (and I am in *NO WAY* trying to exonerate slavers in any form) is that while slaves were formerly subject to the abuses of capricious owners, there existed a strong disincentive to kill one's slave. Now there is a powerful disincentive to invest anything at all in their care, as they are so cheap to replace. As such, getting sick, failing to meet quotas or some other arbitrary "infraction" is far more likely to result in outright killing of the slave, unless an example could be made of them (such as pouring acid on the face of a prostitute and keeping her around as a warning to the others). It's disgusting. Abject cruelty should never be tolerated. But my point is, enlightened though we may be, slavery is still happening now on an industrial scale that (possibly) dwarfs that of what we collectively identify as the North Atlantic Slave trade. And a final thought, I believe it wasn't until 2007 until Mauritania "began enforcing" its laws against owning slaves (themselves not passed into law until the 1990's)...at the moment, it's estimated that over 25% of the population is still directly owned as property while another, bigger proportion, exist at the margins, sharecropping or otherwise remaining indentured servants. ...just sayin'...
