Actual Seven Habits of Highly Effective PhDs according to me 1. Do not waste time in reading too many papers , just read latest quality papers , see the results that you could improve a bit and only focus on related articles and make research plan on those papers by logging the idea and results of those papers. 2. Make habits of reading books and novels because after all it is your writing ability , way of presenting your work in a good story and explain your work in an effective manner that will matter when you would try to target good quality journals and by reading books and novels , you would get lot of vocabulary , good ideas , stories and reasonings to explain things. 3. Spend most of your daily time in laboratory , even if you like to have rest , like to cook , you can go to your dorms have rest but always come back and do your work. Make a habit of going first to the lab and always coming out as a last person , note how many papers you read , did you get something useful from those papers , did you read the paper in such a way that you could explain the paper to another students . 4. Do not waste your stipend money carelessly because there will come times when you will need this money so urgently , especially when you did not finish PhD on time and School would not be able to fund your extension period so make a plan that if you need one more year then you should have one year of stipend in your account to survive and remember difficult times will come . 5. You should fully understand and if possible implement 05 good quality latest papers in the domain that your are working with because only then you would know what are the research gaps that you should fill . Whenever you implement some paper , have a meeting with Professor and make a good PPT and explain him or her your implementation because in this way yours Professor would know that you are some worthy person who can do things . 6. Yes , do focus on your health and always go to gym on daily basis and try to accompany someone that you always can join to go to the gym. If you are married then accompany your spouse if not then try to find a girl friend and if that is not possible then make loyal friends and remember my advice always make friends of other countries . 7. Talk regularly to your family members back home and always discuss things related to house , like marriages , financial matters , cooking , family issues and so on as this would make you in touch with your family members .

Prof Ganguly, every word you have said is true for every PhD scholar. Having at least 6 references ready is the real game changer, another gem of insight for research scholars. I never realised it during my PhD journey.

Yes once you go for PhD your life is governed by reference letters. Even promotions to full professor or fellow awards need reference letters from other people experts or fellows etc

Most important for a ph. D. student is to have extraordinary writing skills in language in which graduate work is being done. This is where many students fall short.

I agree 100 percent with your comment. But the problem is that if a professor tells students to improve their English they take it negatively as they think they are being put down. English should be made a mandatory part of PhD process in countries where it is not the native language. How to improve your English as an international student? kzbin.info/www/bejne/qam9laiMntuBec0

Hello sir , As a PhD scholar with completion date is getting nearer, I see that I am facing ADHD; Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Due to thos even though to do things are less, because of the disorder I feel that things are very big and I doubt if I could complete my thesis or not within a stipulated time. Could you please comment on how to over come it? If you think its a problem with most of scholars, could you please make a video on how to overcome this disorder? Let me know your opinion Thanks

Hi sir! Do indian patents have recognisation internationally. I have few indian and Uk patents. Which one is more recognised whether patents or research articles with high h- index sir
@Drganguli
@Drganguli 2 ай бұрын
Well patents are always an useful demonstration of research capability. But they are valued more in industry and research labs. For universities journal papers and to some extent papers in good conferences are valued. Articles with high citations are good. People have high h-index. See these videos What is the H-Index? kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnOlh6mXhrqlicU Can you do Research without a PhD? kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqWWlZmrgaujos0

Hi Dr. Ganguli, I wanted to ask: Is this video only considering post-master PhDs or also US students who go from Bachelors to PhDs? Would the timelines still be the same? Thank you so much!
@Drganguli
@Drganguli 2 ай бұрын
Well mostly I assume that they have done a masters degree. If they go for a direct PhD they may sometimes need to take more coursework but this depends on the university. Otherwise the timelines would be more or less similar

Hi sir I’m Harihara sudhan I was attend H1B interview September 17 2024 from Germany ,the officer give me 221g and keep it my passport they not mention any particular documents need only he mark Your application requires administrative processing, then I always check my status the show refused ,then they send back my passport October 8 without visa printing they not asked any documents anything from me and my employer,now also the status still refused what the meaning they are asking my passport again or no I’m very confused and stressful please tell me your experience answer Thank you

221g means they will do a background check. For h1 it is likely both for the candidate and more importantly for the employer. They also look at security related issues. Since government departments are involved and they are flooded with 221g these things take time. Also note that the tech job market in USA is grim. So they have to check then h1 need carefully for the company. At this point you have to wait. When all is clear they will email you about the result. You may need to take your passport and get the visa in case the outcome of the checks are positive.
