Seven Nasty Kneebars | Submission Grappling

Kneebars don't get as much attention these days as heel hook or other leg locks, but they are still extremely powerful and useful submissions. In this video, my friend Mike "Boom Boom" Cheney and I discuss some of our favorite kneebar entries from standing, ground top and ground bottom. I hope you like these. Is any of these moves illegal in some competitions? To be specific I saw that in 5:00 and I was once told that you can't submit the inside leg (the opponents left leg as in the picture). The exact words were "You will be kicked out of the gym instantly" Well in Greek it sounds different..😄 Thank you very much

These are all competition legal for higher ranks and in no-gi. Some are legal in the gi as well.

Is it possible for your opponent to turn into you when you and your opponent are shoulder to shoulder on the ground such as in 3:07? Are there way for you to stop your opponent from getting on top, I alway end up in that situation, largely during a sweep

Yes and no. Great question and legit concern. Two things: 1. If he turns into me, in order to get to the top he has to get his near elbow and knee to the ground. As long as I secure the catch on the leg prior to that, it should restrict him 2. It’s important to cut the angle back toward the opponent when going into the knee bar so that his hip mobility is compromised and his range of motion / flexion is restricted. Hope this helps!

It’s from Toehold. They normally make custom flip flops but have rash guards and other gear too.
