I was in love with the short stories within the film. The one about the man in black slitting his throat, and the monk. Honestly this movie made me really think and realize these people are really close to my close circle of friends. I loved it it will forever be in my top ten.

@@BannedPhotoshop Yea it does, and this movie is a comedy called Seven Psychopaths. I think the over exaggerated ridiculousness makes sense in this movie because it’s about psychotic individuals who don’t think like normal people and behave erratically so the direction is metaphorical in a way and specifically done the way it was to make you feel like you’re at the hands of truly unpredictable characters. This isn’t Saving Private Ryan so why did you expect a comedy to take itself seriously, bud?

The setup to a perfect revenge film etc is pretty much the plot of Three Billboards.

To me this movie feels like an artist struggling with his next script and opting to try turn that struggle into art like how films such as Barton Fink and Adaptation successfully did - but failing at it. I find in retrospect Martin McDonagh just needed more time digest between scripts as in my mind the (")fictional(") authors intentions for the script of the plot in Seven Psychopaths comes expertly realized in 'Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.' A movie full of violence and criminality, featuring an interesting, engaging and awesome female lead that actually manages to at its core be all about acceptance and people coming to terms with one another across wide gaps whilst at the same time totally having its gleeful, stupid, destructive violence cake, and eating it at the same time. Seven Psychopaths talk about trying to write a great script, Billboards was actually doing it.

Wow you summed up my feelings about this movie perfectly, this is exactly what I thought about it also. @themrmarkprior Жыл бұрын
The twisted interconnection between characters and the way the film goes round and round is brilliant. It's far from lazy writing. It's a brilliant thought provoking film absolutely chokka with lines that make you gasp and laugh. Not as good as In Bruges (probably my favourite ever film) but Seven Psychopaths is still a solid 8/10.
@Cheesemonk3h7 жыл бұрын
i really liked this movie but all of his criticism is spot on. there's just enough substance to make you think after the movie is over but not enough to last until you get to the refrigerator. the line 'what, are you guys making a french movie?' is this movie in nutshell - they wanted to have the weight of a french art house film without any of the rigor and repeatedly excuse the movie for not rising to the standards they set /in their own freaking script./
@Stockmuncher4 жыл бұрын
Seven Psychopaths is hilarious and well-acted but there's too many psychopaths. The film should've been about Farrell, Rockwell and Walken writing the screenplay in different locations and Harrelson as their Nemesis, trying to save his dog. As it is, it's a bit bloated and disjointed. Still worth a watch though.
@WhitneyHaverstock3 жыл бұрын
Maybe psychopaths ARE bloated. Disjointed. Eh? I haven't seen the movie, and I'm just typing this on the toilet at 4 am out of sheer boredom and existential crisis. But.. walk a mile. Ya know? Perhaps this film serves a perfect parallel to psycopathy. 🤷♂️. Or, maybe it kinda drags, like you said, huh.. 🤔 Fair enough. I ain't seen it and none of this is helping me take the plunge. Seems mediocre.

I really liked this movie, but I see where Mark's coming from - it wasn't on the level of In Bruges. Great dialogue, some good performances, good ending, but there were times that I felt like I was just watching a movie - not connecting with the story or the characters as much as in bruges. Still worth watching and McDonagh is a fantastic talent.

Normally agree with Mark but the disparity of this review and something like the new Twilight is rather jarring. While I agree that the Twilight franchise might get undue and over the top stick, the fact remains that Seven Psychopaths is a far superior film in terms of characters, script, acting, plot; everything that a film should be judged upon. I find it disappointing that a mediocre film like Breaking Dawn Part 2 should get a better review compared to the subversive and original 7 psychpaths
