I have no idea why this game sticks out so much in my memory from the ps2 days, pretty sure I never beat it as a kid and it doesnt really have anything all that great about it, but it never ceases to amaze me when I see another video about a random game from that era - that even in those days was barely ever spoken of. Always love the nostalgia trip Edit: the ending retrospection on the jank but how everything ultimately ties together to make something memoriable pretty much answers why this sticks out

Same for me. There were a LOT of video game magazine ads for Seven Samurai 20XX back in the day, so maybe thats why. Like even two years after the game came out there would just be a random full page ad for it at the back of like GameInformer or GMR.

Dude there's an anime adaptaion of Seven Samurai, and it's also a diesel punk style too, and both of them came out in 2004. Makes sense that they were celebrating its 50th anniversary of the 1954 classic film, and now its turning 70 yrs old.

I remember this game I had it and played it. I knew exactly what I was getting when I got it. It was nearing the end of 360/ps3 era. I remember thinking the game was cool especially since I was familiar with the concept. Played the game beginning to end; idk how long it took but I remember thinking man this is cool but playing it is kinda boring. Game holds a special place for me for some reason.

I first saw this game on G4's Cinematech and wanting to play it immediately. This was me still fresh off of my love for PS2 Shinobi and having a protagonist with a scarf wielding two katanas was an instant hook for me. Sadly though, I never got around to asking for it for my bday or Xmas. Just slipped my mind, I guess :U

diesel punk is the perfect wayto destribe the aesthetic of this game im stealing that. there are pipelines and engines and valves everywhere everything is so rusty and grey and futuristic in a dystopian way . visuals in the background remind . the characters design is a punk metal anime power ranger samurais and villains are straight out of gotham city. this crazy and fascinating blend of aestheitcs and themes can only be created by real artists from that era. call it nostalgia all you want but those artist were the byproduct of that era.

this reminds me of the samurai jack game from ps2, i freaking loved the combat and open level design and the weird mechanics it had. Really made you part of a classic samurai jack episode

Dude, I was just on your page looking at your Dororo video again, because the 2019 reboot cartoon gave me a clip from it involving a spider-woman. Then this video shows up. Cyberpunk, Diesel Punk, Bio Punk, all of these are so cool. Bio Punk definitely needs to be explored more in my opinion. Too much body horror potential and great stories to not do so.

5:57 i hate that as well… so much so that i bought a dualsense edge and moved the crouch and lock buttons to the additional buttons. Makes elden ring much better to play, without crouching every time things get heated.

when this game came out, GiantBomb did not exist. rather, it was GameSpot that covered this game and reviewed it. Ryan Davis, who later joined GiantBomb with other ex-gamespot members such as Jeff Gerstmann (the founder of GB and before that, ArrowPointingDown), reviewed this game, which is what you might be thinking of. GB was founded in I think 2008. Any way, another great video

@10:48 I'm so glad someone has finally given those "strange incomplete" sentence phrases a name. It almost seems to be a problem in alot of asian based fantasy media. I see it in the form of " oh you'll come to know about 'that' soon" in soooo many Manhwa, Manhua, and Manga that its frustrating. FF does it, kingdom hearts does it, so many other JRPGs also do it. Usually when they don't want to tell the viewer about some story element but they want to let the reader know this element exists and will be revealed soon.

I'm sorry, MOEBIUS worked on this? RIP to a genius. I haven't watched Civvie in a while, but that skinwalker syndrome REALLY kills the vibe of some of these games from the PS1-PS2 era. It's even worse with companies like Working Designs who are outright going out of their way to make changes to the script because they don't like it. So not only are they skinwalkers in terms of performance overall, but the dialogue doesn't make any sense anymore.

I remember this. I was super into it but I heard the gameplay really sucked. There was also an anime. I think the anime and game worked with the same basic premise but deviated quite a bit. The anime was interesting. Not super duper awesome, but it was alright.

"On the 360 in middle school..." Man, you don't have to go and tell me I'm old, without calling me old... It's bad enough I can remember Northern Ukraine before in was irradiated... An interesting point of interest though. This game had a horrendous development, with constant team turnover, corporate modeling, and the funding being a fraction of what was agreed on. In the end, the game as published, is a beta that was not much more fleshed-out than a glorified tech demo and press kit.
