It does feel like Glass’s world is a Meiji samurai version. I suppose that means they need to train alone but battle together. And I suppose only trust allows the cardinal heroes to battle together. Also there’s heavy implications that cardinal hero weapons have had multiple heroes using them time and again. Also vassal weapons can be given to new heroes (which I know could happen). And I suppose some of the vassal weapon holders could be petty lol...

I had a theory about both Cardinal and Vassal weapons: They were created by another world that was destroyed by the waves, embedded with the souls/spirits from that world in order to protect other worlds and hope to defeat the cause of the waves. The Vassal weapons were originally Cardinal weapons before being weaken after traveling to other worlds after their worlds that they were assigned to, were destroyed, that were very close to the other Cardinal weapons worlds. Some of the Cardinal weapons might have foresight in order to pick their wielder, such as the Shield!

From what I understand, vassal weapons are less restrictive but also nowhere near as strong as legendary ones, which makes sense. I guess they can get stronger like the shield and whatnot do, but not as strong as the legendary weapons.

The key difference is the rate of growth. The holy weapons have significantly more bang for their buck, but are restricted greatly. The vassal heroes are less restricted, but beef up at a slower rate.

I'm more confused at the autocracy's lack of knowledge about the seven star heroes. If the waves have been happening for as long as the king described in the beginning, then shouldn't there be more information regarding the process?

It's explained later on. In vague terms though, the last set of waves were a very long time ago (there had only been the one that destroyed Raphtalia's village in their lifetimes) and information about the waves was 'lost' in wars and disasters in the time since (though this is also most likely because of sabotage).

Well, in Mushoku Tensei there's also Nanahoshi, which literally means '7 stars', and in Re:Zero there's Subaru, whose name is the Japanese name for the Pleiades or seven sisters star cluster (same thing the battle maids in Overlord are named after, though they use the Western name Pleiades). The seven witches in Re:Zero don't really count because there are actually 9 of them...

Spoiler I wonder what the 8th seven star weapon is/was... i dont believe its been stated in the ln... just that the carriage is one of them, and i dont think it was the 8th. The staff was one, the axe, the gauntlets, the daggers, the carriage and i forget. Also, the seven star weapons can be shared temporarily if the user and spirit agree to transfer use of it.

Spoiler: The carriage is the 8th. The others are Axe, Staff, Hammer, Throwing Weapons, Gauntlet, Claw and Whip. The carriage counts as the 8th because it's the one people in that world don't know about/count as one, so the seven star weapons they know about are the others excluding the carriage.

The Seven Star heroes are reminiscent of the Six Sages in LoZ Ocarina of Time. They have significant power, but don't hold the "divine" power (the triforce in this analogy) that Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf do. They also work to support the main heroes of Link and Zelda in their endeavors to save their world.

Oddly enough I've always thought of the heroes like a game of gambit from Destiny 2. There's a team for each side. The defense is the cardinal heroes who defend against the wave and the vassal heroes are invaders. They go to the other world to kill thier defenders and save their world

Maybe the weapons themselves just woke up. Perhaps sometimes they need to recharge their powers so they simply didnt have time to find new users. Perhaps they only become active during the spirit turtle or at a time when the four heroes are not enough. Lets not forget there can be cursed effects that if a wielder uses it too long the weapon will kill its user so they simply cant. Until the weapon itself decides its time to do so. If a user cant use another weapon but the weapon needs dormmate phases. That would mean the person in question just couldnt exp much until the weapon itself is ready. What made me think of this outcome was the PS2 game Shinobi how its cursed sword acted.

I have a question regarding episode 2 of S2, regarding the infiltrator woman(forgot the name for now) that is the familiar of the great turtle but confessed changed sides and now everyone forgave very easily. She mentioned she infiltrated human factions royalty to influence and create wars between human factions to harvest souls, but no one asked her how many people she killed, how many wars and conflicts she started in the anime. I assume she had to do some bad stuff considering she admitted to seducing several people and sleeping with them to get what she wanted.

Her name is "Ost Horai" and although she did influence many leaders over time to start wars and harvest the souls of the dead, there is a deeper reason for that, which the anime explained quite poorly I think. As a familiar of one of the four gurdian beasts (the spirit tortoise in this case) it is her duty to collect the souls to gather "energy", to protect the world from the waves of calamity. It's kind of a back up plan to save the world primarily. Once the 4 holy Heroes see through the gathering of souls, and stop the tortoise from doing that, it is (in this case) Ost Horais duty to tell the four heroes how to awaken the spirit tortoise in case they might need it. Because you need to remember this: The Holy Heroes where summoned to save the world, not primarily its inhabitants. So if the heroes are not up to the task to defeat the waves on their own, they can free the spirit tortoise, let it rampage, till the energy is sufficient and let it use the energy to build a sphere that protects the world. With that, they would fulfill their duty which they would have been summoned for. But the heroes can also choose to fight the gurdian beasts and by fighting them succesfully would claim the already gathered energy of that beast and use it to delay the waves for more time and get a bunch of good equipment. In this case however, someone broke the seal, and is currently controlling the tortoise against its will. So Ost wants the heroes to destroy the tortoise, because normally it would stop after requiering the necessary amounts of souls. But the one who controls it has other goals.

Shield Hero is definitely good for fights - in places the novels almost feel like a wuxia series rather than a typical isekai due to the amount of complicated and interesting fights between people with different weird skills and weapons, and the game-like mechanics to how it all works!

SPOILERS: In Glass' world, I'd have the katana if I had to fight, the ship if I didn't (I know how to fight with swords better than any of the other weapons in the set, but IRL it doesn't come up much that you need to fight to the death so it'd be better to have the ship for the transport abilities). In Naofumi's world I'd have the gauntlets if I had to fight, because they can be used for attack and defense, and the carriage if I didn't.

Greetings Natalie, I dont read Manga or Light Novels(yet); And I enjoy and appreciate your explanations of the deeper lore of some of these anime, especially Mushoku tensai. I have a question about Rising of the Slave Weirdo that I hope might be addressed in a future video. I enjoy the show for the most part; Yet I am somewhat disturbed by Naofumi's ever growing army of enslaved Loli's. Is there any explanation in the lore as to why a slave would be preferred over a companion? Does a slave receive greater benefits than a companion? It occurs to me that if their were a discernible advantage to a Hero having a slave as opposed to having a companion in their party that would be common knowledge; and that the other Heroes would be encouraged to keep slaves as well. Yet that doesn't seem to be the case. anyway, I enjoy your content and am looking forward to future videos. 🤟😎

It wasn’t properly explained but Naofumi specifically has skills that heavily strengthen and give other benefits to anyone who is bonded to him as a slave. It’s why Rishia asked to be his slave because Naofumi’s skills can enhance her abilities and allow her to learn new skills faster, etc. Honestly Season 2 has been kind of a mess in a lot of aspects, kinda hoping we push through this arc quickly and the story slows down and lets us handle the story more in depth.

The event with Rishia in S2 episode 1 seemed a little strange and I didn't recall anything from season 1 that would have suggested that either slave or companion would have a clear advantage over the other. I seem to recall Raphtalia being listed as a companion(S1) in the Shield's interface; Even though she was technically a slave. That's why I assumed that any companion would receive the same benefits.

Was it ever established in the LN that vassal weapons could be held by people summoned from another world, or that it was even possible to summon people from another world (besides the cardinal heroes)? I may have missed you mentioning this, but I think you can also say that like the cardinal weapons, the vassal weapon holders are holders for life - i.e. you have to kill them before the vassal weapon be wielded by someone else.

Whether the weapons themselves can summon people from other worlds to hold them, well, I can't think of any incident of this happening but I'm sure it is mentioned that they can.

But I don't recall any mention of summoning - I would have to go back and reread that volume/chapter. (edit) LN 6-1 does mention that the seven star heroes can be summoned or be chosen from normal adventurers. I guess that didn't stick in my mind because it seemed rather vague, and didn't necessarily seem consistent with events later in the series (although the series isn't over yet and I'm not completely caught up).

Otherworlds aren't mentioned much, but I pretty much had the impression that each world had 4 holy heroes. SETTING SPOILER They learned that each set of waves fuses two world together and each world originaly had only one holy and two vassal heroes. After the first, two worlds got fused resulting in worlds with 6 heroes each(the sword and spear world, and the shield and bow world), after the second they got fused again resulting in the current world. I believe we can assume it happened to each world.

I do enjoy the Vassal/Holy dynamic later on, and I really wish they didn't get so many details until after dealing with Kyo, which is what I assume s3 will be about. [spoilahs] I hope you cover the fact that Vassal Weapons are, well, vassals to a specific Holy Weapon, as we learned in vol. 21 and 22. It's such an interesting detail that makes perfect sense that I didn't actually think of until right before we got the reveal, and I like how each Holy Weapon's vassals actually line up strategy wise and that some of the power-up mechanics are in the same vein of gimmick (like the gauntlet, staff, and sword all having a points based subsystem where you spend and cash out for their effects.)

Spoilers... Fitoria wields the Vassal Carriage but the anime has excluded that. Only time we kind of see her use it in the anime is when they first meet and they all teleport away in it. She also relied on it heavily against the Spirit Tortoise in the Light Novel but not the anime. Also Trash is the wielder of the Vassal Staff but due to his current psychoses he cant wield it and it hasn't chosen anyone else. There are 2 Vassal weapons to every Legendary Weapon and due to the enemy behind the waves Raphtalia's world believes the 4 heroes have to die before summoning new ones and also that they have to be summoned from different worlds, this is misinformation caused by the enemy behind the waves to hinder worlds from getting stronger and calling on heroes.

Incorrect info funny this are not even spoiler's since most of it are wrong. First.. The world naofomi was summoned have 4 holy/legendary/cardinal weapons.. It is called different per region or world for example the old granny who teaches the late bloomer rishia and raptalia her ki-manipulation skill calls the shield hero "Saint" of cardinal weapon. Next in Glass's world.. there are also 4 holy/legendary/cardinal weapons And 8 vassal weapons exactly the same as Melty's world. But Glass party are all vassal weapon holders. 1st the jewel user girl is not adventurer she is a legit vassal weapon holder. The scythe guy is not a holy/legendary/cardinal hero that scythe is also a vassal weapon. Glass the strongest among the three is from a spirit human race. And she is also a vassal weapon .. look there are no spirit human race in normal world of japan lol.. and all four legendary/holy/cardinal heroes always came from different parallel world of modern japan and there is no spirit race on there that means Glass is a native from her world and if she used a weapon it will only be a vassal weapon. And if glass and the scythe guy are both holy heroes they will experience experience penalty so why the hell they are in a party? The answer is simple they are vassal weapon user which are always be weaker than holy heroes but unlike them they can form party for gain experience without penalty. And the biggest reason among all is.. In glass world there is only 1 remaining holy hero its Kizuna who uses the legendary hunting tool weapon its the equivalent of the shield hero she have a weapon but it can only kill animals or Monsters not humans. The 3 holy heroes are dead. ** Spoiler* The reason why stupid user's become a holy heroes is because. The bow, spear and sword tried to pick their 1st choice candidate but there's a chance that the weapon cant summon each of their 1st choice candidate. Only the shield weapon can summon its 1st choice 100% all the time, while the other weapons are like Lottery. Thats why every shield hero are nice to demi humans and every shield hero who is paired up with filolial can produce a OP filolial queen. The holy weapons are strong but if a user is stupid thinking that its a game example the three idiot heroes but someone beat them. Its another three idiot heroes from Glass's world they were killed by vassal weapon users which are weaker than them lol. Just like the fight with 3 idiot heroes vs glass's party in season 1. Glass party is kicking the three idiots ass and naofomi defeated glass lol. But for the idiot trio spear,sword and bow the one who will kill them is fitoria which is OP and stronger than all heroes.. i think the only one who can fought fitoria is the holy hero from other world Kizuna because of the nature of her legendary hunting tool weapon thats why even alone she can obliterate waves monster's alone. Fitoria reason is to re-summon a new four heroes who can work as a team if not she will kill them again. She don't give a fck about the spear, bow and sword but he cares for the shield hero since it reminds it of her master. Thats why she gave them chances.

How is this information incorrect then, from a perspective of not spoiling anything (so not mentioning how many holy weapons Glass' world has, or that Glass is a spirit, or Kizuna, or that there are actually 8 vassal weapons in the world Naofumi is summoned to, which are all spoilers for the anime)? Also, Therese is not a vassal weapon holder - only Glass and L'Arc are from that party, so you are incorrect about that. ETA: I did say that vassal weapons are different from holy weapons in that they can be held by people native to their world OR people from another world, so idk why you thought I implied that Glass was from Japan or that L'Arc and Glass were holy weapon holders... it's like you watched a totally different video and started correcting stuff that was literally the opposite of what I said.

SPOILERS: True, but she holds the 8th one that the queen etc don't know is a vassal weapon, so it's still reasonable for the queen to say she thinks the seven star heroes are weaker. Actually, we've seen another of them in season 1 too, but he wasn't at his best!
