Speaking of Dolly, if you have a kid, you absolutely need to sign them up for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. She started it to send free books to kids to encourage reading. Both of our kids used it, and they loved it when a new book showed up. That lady is a saint.

I tried signing my kid up for it, and discovered that Imagination Library doesn’t send books to my zip code (a well-populated area) because Imagination Library had a deal to send kids to check out the same books at the local libraries instead. I don’t mind driving those five minutes to get there. 😊

I have a friend whose daughter was battling a childhood illness at Vanderbilt. His wife and daughter were in a waiting room to get a procedure done when who walks in but Miss Dolly. Dolly sat down and just had a talk with his daughter about what was going on in her treatment and all kind of other things. After a while, Dolly said “Well, honey, I have to go, but I’ll keep you in my prayers.” Five minutes later his wife was thinking “Did that really just happen?”

Many many years ago when my Memaw and Pawpaw were moving, there was a stack of cinder blocks that had obviously been there for a while. My Pawpaw made sure we knew those needed to be loaded, my then wife asked my Pawpaw what he needed them for at his new house, his reply was "so I can stack em up there just like they are here." My grandparents have long since passed and that house was sold but I'd be willing to be those cinder blocks are still there.

My favorite Dolly move is that Dollywood might seem like an ego thing at first glance, but it's actually there to provide jobs in an area that doesn't have a lot. And it provides 100% tuition coverage. That woman's the real deal. (She played a concert where I live when I was a kid, and my step-dad won a local radio contest for a backstage meet-and-greet with her. He was the grumpiest SOB you've ever met, but in that picture he got with her, you could tell that he was as nervous as a teenager.)

2:51 I grew up in Massachusetts, and later moved to Texas. One of the first places I went was Louie Mueller Barbecue in Taylor. I knew from the moment I walked in that it was going to be good - the seating arrangements were minimalist, and on the right hand wall sat hundreds of business cards, many of them discolored beyond recognition through the decades of smoke. This was a place that had been doing it for a long time, and must have focused purely on the food. We got the brisket, naturally. I took my first bite, and tasted it. Savored it. I sat there for a minute, maybe longer. I then turned to my brother and said "I understand why southerners are more religious."

You can’t convince me she’s not an actual angel walking among us. In fact, when I was a little girl, I was convinced she was my guardian angel - my mom had told me about guardian angels, and how they’re everywhere and they watch over you, and Dolly was on the radio, TV, magazines, everywhere I looked. So, she had to be my guardian angel. Still pretty dang sure she’s an angel on Earth.

@@derekbrown2215 Did you pay attention to the video? Dolly Parton is *the* rags to riches story. From dirt floor in a little cabin in the woods to the Queen of Country. She could have went off to Cali or Nashville and forgot about her home, but instead she built charities and bought an amusement park to help the area she came from and others who were born into that same impoverished life she had as a child. Dolly Parton is a genuinely wonderful woman and the epitome of what everyone should aspire to be. She's quite possibly the best celebrity ever. @MarionStevensJr

They're just trying to echo that nutjob who attacked her in her blog post or whatever you want to call it. As for the folks they trotted out, none of them had half the career she did. Did Kevin Sorbo even have a career? I'm not sure that playing Hercules on a campy syndicated TV show counts. That's one of those things an aspiring actor does while waiting for their big break, and, if their break comes, they hope it's a role that people forget about.

As a native Atlantan, I can verify that the on/off ramps of the downtown connector (I-75/I-85) and the perimeter (I-285) were not designed. They EVOLVED into the hell mazes that we try to navigate. Sometimes, we actually get to where we want to go. Mostly, we just go where the ramps take us. Once, I entered an off ramp in downtown Atlanta and ended up in Savanah. Don't ask me how. I don't know. But it took hours to get back to Atlanta. I just went home, confused and embarrassed.

I have a nice collection of cinder blocks that I use like legos to build all kinds of useful things. Temporary structures - rose beds, then the roses die. Raccoon proof cat feeders for when I’m out of town. Side tables to set my iced tea on. Climbing toys for the cats. Blockers for holes under the fence. Etc etc.

You're kidding yourself on coon proof with cinder blocks. I have 2 pet coons and tried using cinder blocks to keep them from dumping the half a barrel I use as a water trough over. The girls will work together to move one then the other and still dump it. They do it out of spite if somebody doesn't come out to talk and pet them at least 2 times a day.

Ever since i could remember there was this big pile of cinder blocks stack on the edge of the yard. So it had to be sitting minimum 40 years. I forgot where my dad said it came from but it was just there. Than out of nowhere about 10 or so years ago my dad needed some money and somebody came down to the house and bought like over half of them. Due to the pile behind on the edge of the yard near the woods and after the brick pile was disturbed a tree started to grow in the holes of obe of the cinder blocks.

There are many sayings about Atlanta. Such as "You can't get to Heaven or Hell without changing planes in Atlanta first." The problem is pretty much every major highway that runs from the Midwest toward Florida or from Texas to the East Coast all converge in Atlanta. Think of it like the Hub of a Hub and Spoke road system that covers half the country.
