I second that Tyll was a Legendary Headphone reviewer and their has still been no replacement for him. I’m glad that he is happy and he can live his life out as he chooses. Very few people have the courage to do what Tyll has done and I wish him and others who do this the best.

I like idea of tool box that can double as a work bench or a cooking table or even fab a top to make a (patio) deck; and if mounted on a receiver hitch, you could even remove the whole thing for entry into national parks and area where overall length is a consideration.

But he does have to give up an EXIT door to have that garage. That is not cool to me. But at least he is an original.

You’re mirroring my future plans down to your pooch “ Dark” & electric bike, my plan is to sell my house, buy a UPS/step-van modify & stock it to my style & needs & live full time. My plan is to live in New Mexico/Arizona area, living in the 7000/9000’ level in summer & the desert in winter, all you need is a few roof fans. I’ve found that a minimalist life-style is better for me bc the more “stuff you have, you don’t own it, it owns you” in repair , time & money. Good build , good tour! Shalom!

Man, youtube and the internet are an amazing thing. A couple of hours ago I was doing some research on looking at getting some good quality headphones and found Tyll's review on some I'm interested in. I liked his laid back and intelligent demeanor and checked out some of his other vids. Then was shocked to discover he'd retired! Seem's like a pretty tough job to retire from so I totally understand! (I'm just being a smartass as I'm sure he had a day job too). Anyway, discovered Putts and his blog through this video. Sounds like he's had a varied and interesting life from serving to electrical engineering, audio engineering, CAD and goodness knows what else. Just skimmed the vlog so far so looking forward to an interesting read. He hasn't been on there in awhile so hope he's ok and is living the dream. Thanks for sharing

Great van tour, thank you! This was a great find! 7:06 - it would have been very helpful at this point to focus the camera on what was below the table rather than remain fixed on him. Ditto for other moments. Always let the camera roam to what he is talking about, not stay fixed on him. Then the video becomes more interesting. Tyll's sandwich walls and heat draw system are genius! Very clever Tyll! I wonder if it would help even more to make holes below the van and draw cool air from under the van (always shaded) into the walls and van interior? I saw an engineer do this (Dave Orton) with his tiny Ford Transit conversion. He made a plug on the floor of the interior living space that could be pulled up to create a hole to suck in air from under the van. He said, its always the coolest air since is it always the shaded area. Smart concept! With regard to heater, you may want to check out the cheap $200 Chinese diesel heaters that are similar to Espar, Webasto, and Truma. They come with their own flat small diesel tanks and are very efficient in low diesel use, have NO condensation, easy to refill at any gas station, and no danger of explosion like propane. Propane has condensation, explosion, and you need to find costly refill stations. What a great van build, so interesting. Please make a separate one to explain the insulation, and how it works in more detail. This deserves some exploring. Concept is easy to understand but easier to implement if we see details. Thanks again, well done!

Tyll's cooling system is like one of those vacuum insulating coffee cups. I have been debating on what to get. A skoolie or a box truck / van. With the box truck, I could copy Tyll's idea using metal studs and not lose the height. The only problem with that is those are work trucks and are beat to hell and still cost a lot of money. No wonder you don't see that many videos on conversions of those.

Nice parce l deliver van!I really like the cooling system. In my grumman ford step van I went with 5.5" thick rock wool (r-19?)for super insulation and sound deadening and it works great. I just need to insulate my front wall for really extreme temperatures, You are correct...insulating is the biggest project involved with step van. The only more difficult insulation project is a skoolie. Don't ask me how I know!

Some real thought and clever engineering gone into this conversion. Insulation and air management is a key concept. Getting this right effects every other aspect of living in the conversion. I used compressed wool boards for insulation and combined with a breathable membrane I think I have it right. Mine good for -20c to +30c living so perfect for UK climate.

Seven Wanders the World surprising they hard to come by. They are a product created out of desperation! The farmers were getting so little for fleeces they were loosing money shearing their sheep. There was no market for the fleeces until the insulation boards were created to create a market for them. A poor state of affairs for the farmers, cheap imported wool reduced their product to almost zero value. Natural wool has so many advantages- organic, fire resistant, breathable, long lasting, chemical free and supports hard working farmers.

Hello Seven and Tyll and Dart! Right outta the gate I've gotta say that Dart is one cool little dude. I dig the toolbox location, as you demonstrated it would be great when you're set up with a bench and doin' some work. At first I, admittedly, thought that the composting toilets would be nasty but the more I see 'em and learn about 'em I think that's what I would go with in my own rig. That little barrel bolt you have to lock the cover up is smart. I cannot imagine bein' in the fecal position and that thing comin' down on my head. Your rig seems to be well set up and that passenger seat is far-out. Your ventilation system is ideal! Many years ago my high school drafting teacher and I designed a home that had the same basic principal. I had never heard of airspace being used for temperature control that way before then, he taught me a lot. I also haven't heard many people talking about that kinda system since and you may be the first person I've seen put it into practice. I'm jealous heh, heh. Tyll, your step van has it's stealth but also great functionality and I have to guess comfort as well, thanks for the tour. Great installment Seven, very interesting and entertaining, thank you. ......................................PEACE!!

composting toilets are fascinating. there is a channel I watch called "Bus Life NZ" about a family traveling New Zealand in a bus. for the first year the wife said she would never ever use a composting toilet due to ick factor, smells and cleaning. after several months in the bus they were having lots of problems with the traditional RV toilet and black tank (kids putting stuff in it that would get caught in the propellor system and jam it). it also overflowed into the rig once causing quite the stink. during that time they met another bus couple who had a composting toilet. she saw how it didn't smell at all and they would go a week or more between emptying it. she was sold and they ripped out their old toilet and installed the composting. she says she loves it and it is so much better than the black water toilet. she is astounded how resistant she was given how much easier the composting toilet is to use, less smell and never any problems with the kids. I was sold on it after seeing their experience!

I've seen a few of their videos, I like their rig. Yes, that kinda story is enough to sell the composting toilet. They just make sense in every way to me now. I was in the "ick column" until recently heh, heh.
