The thing about the Helena/Helly debate is that Helena would have to have Helly's memories if she wanted to be sure the innies on the severed floor wouldn't suspect her, and I don't see how Lumon could have advanced their technology so much so fast. Last season (which was mere days ago in the show) they hadn't even cracked reintegration yet. I know they found Petey's chip and maybe they could reverse-engineer reintegration from that, but they'd also have to find a way to make sure Helena was the one in the driver's seat. And it's only been a few days. I guess it's possible it's Helena, but I really think it's Helly.

Both “fetid” and “moppet” are words that were particularly prominent in the mid 1800s and earlier. This makes the think that the “revolving” is more of a putting the og Eagan’s consciousness in the next in lines mind. Maybe that’s why helly seems so dissatisfied and has a craving for the freedom her innie has

I have a small theory about Dylan. I think he has anxiety about work in general, and it causes him to have trouble getting and keeping a job. I think he got severed because the idea of a job that won’t give him anxiety appeals to him. This provides an interesting contrast to his innie, who has an overwhelming amount of confidence on the job.

I found very interesting that in the elevator staggered scene . Everyone ( mark , Dylan , Irvin ) stepped into the elevator , the door closed and you heard a clear “ding” maybe indicating the chip being activated . Then Helena stepps into the elevator and there is no “ding” . That for me 100% secured it that she is no inni .

I don’t think Helena is jealous of Helly and her budding relationship with Mark. I think Helena was rubbing her neck angry at Helly for trying to hurt her by strangling herself and now seeing that Helly cares about something has found a way to get back at Helly for it. She’s going to mess it up. Helena told Helly that if she tried to harm herself again she was going to make her pay for it dearly.

Did you see the part where she rewound and rewatched the kiss 4 times? And later, when she watches mark through the glass? Hence why she would choose to go down to the severed floor without switching to her work personage

Just some thoughts I had after processing the episode! I thought it was really interesting how we got that small moment of Mark FINALLY replacing the light in his apartment when lighting is a huge part of this show- (wonderful writing that the outies are totally “kept in the dark” on everything that has to do with a solid 50%, or arguably more, of their lives, only having time to exist as outies when it’s dark outside, post work hours. Not to mention “Kier” being a translation for ‘dark’ and “Lumon” for ‘light’). I might be reading into it, but I thought it could metaphorical that since Mark has decided to quit, he’s going to start moving on and feeling his grief for Gemma. Fixing those dead bulbs. Milcheck’s dialogue following interrupting Mark’s task of replacing the bulb made it all the more interesting: when asking about his happiness, and mentioning that “it’ll make it’s way up” from Mark’s innie after directly confronting Mark about his grief, it’s clear that Lumon wants to keep him in the dark, down in the basement, and that Mark is central to ‘Ms. Casey’s’ file. Can’t wait to see why her file is so important and if the theories on resurrecting Kier himself are true! A phenomenal show!!
@iangill5784Күн бұрын
The light bulb change perplexed me too. It is no accident that he is changing it at that point but why? Your assessment may be correct but it is clearly also a reference to earlier in S01 when Mrs Selvig comments on it.

Very interesting observation about Ricken and his friends . Rewatching season one I’m noticing in the scene where they’re all kind of grilling Mark about Lumon, there’s a wide shot of all their water glasses on the table in front of them being full to identical measures … as if to imply they are all the same , or somehow a part of the same club … Lumon ambassadors perhaps?

I think the existence of the overtime contingency is proof that the innie / outie boundaries can be controlled. So Helena (posing as Hellie) can return to the severed floor to collect data on the others . I think Helena is emotionally cold (remember the way she spoke to herself after her innie’s attempted suicide?) so I think she’s only mildly amused by Hellie’s romance with Mark. It remains to be seen if her character will evolve this season and merge with Hellie’s innie personality. For now I think, her objective is the same: Kier and her father’s approval and Lumen’s continuation.

@exzisd2 күн бұрын
The basic theory about Mark’s fishes goes along with the basic color theory of the show AND The Matrix. He has to Beta fish which need to be divided because they will kill each other if not. One is red (like the red pill) and represents the truth and one is blue representing sleep, dreams, lies, and delusions which may be easier to stomach. This color theory is seen all throughout the show including Hellies earrings from s1 and into s2 especially with Season 1 finale into season 2 ep 1 & 2 where her earrings change colors on the same night she spoke to friends of Lumon and also she has different earrings which as blue and briefly but specifically highlighted for a moment in the new Break Room. Helly is severed in her own way even if her chip was all a publicity stunt. She’s tied to her family and must do what they say or die/suffer or she can embrace being “severed” and try to find love with someone who won’t know she exists the majority of the time. I’m excited to see what develops between her and Mark as well as the rest. She’s in a moral quandary where there’s no clear right decision. She’s clearly in power but also under more control. Her feelings for Mark and MDR maybe genuine but she’s tasked as being a spy at a threat implanted deep in her memory.

Thoughts on first watch: -Plot twist : Helena falls in love with Marks innie -What the heck do you make about Rebecks comment about not punishing the baby because it wasn’t “it’s” fault? What!?? This means something for sure -Irving is the creator of all the artwork on the severed floor. -The town of Kier is not an ordinary place but an elaborate experiment where all residents are/were part of some Lumon experiment -Lumon might exist in a parallel universe-a reality where Kier, PE resides in a unique political entity within a world of 206 countries.

personally i dont think the show has given us any reason for helli being helena. people are hinging it on the lie, the computer button, and now the elevator ding.. all these can be easily reasoned away. watch her in ep1 when she said "mushy" or when she talked about how she didnt owe her outtie shit. she said it with disdain for her outtie. she had a tiny spirited outburst there. that's helli. also, lumon needs mark to finish the project cold harbor. that's top priority. to achieve that, drummond said the board needs "Helly R" to be back, because mark wants her back. and when drummond said her name you can see his sympathy for her, followed by helena's resignation to the board's order. switching helly with helena does not serve the project's interest.
@iangill5784Күн бұрын
“Also, Lumon needs Mark to finish the project Cold Harbor”. Surely that’s the point? If it was Helly R then she could hinder the project completion by persuading Mark to sabotage it in some way. They need Helena there pretending to be Helly to ensure Mark can be convinced that finishing the project is the right thing to do.
@ianw0ngКүн бұрын
except in ep1 helly already said to mark she will help find out what happened to his wife. you also forgot that helly helped to reach the team's quota in season 1. are we now to assume helena can also do helly's job? helly just needs to be helly for mark.. she will make him be at ease and thus efficient behind his desk, despite his occasional wanderings.

Helena is certainly not aware of the very dark side of Lumon's activities. She must also be a victim of Lumon's lies. I remember in season 1, episode 1 and 2, when she had joined the team and she found herself several times in front of the exit door because her innie wanted to leave the building... She then wondered if she rejected her integration. But Milchich was forced to lie to her, not to scare her and make her want to go back... I also think that all the rearrangements, supposedly made for the innies, were made for her to hide the dark sides of Lumon . The break room is no longer what it was and Milchich has radically changed the way he treats innies. I think, it is mainly because his/the boss is there. I even think that Helena's integration among innies will be a great help, not only for Mark and friends who are looking for answers and the truth, but also for Helena who is obeying a protocol without knowing the meaning and consequences of of all this...

With Dylan going to a place called “Great Doors” it is such a play on words on top of when one door closes another one opens. In this case it sounds like several doors have closed for Dylan and based on his short term employment sounds like he took severance to support his family bc he couldn’t do it…BUT “Great Doors” is like removing “The Great Outdoors” and meaning it’s an in door job (in several layers - inside, making doors, big opportunity, etc). I found the professional kickball comment odd and it made me think of the red ball game from MDR. There’s also many layers as to why his Severance could prevent him from employment including an inability to hold a job without control as well as Lumon keeping tabs on “fired” workers. They are imbedded in the politics of the place they live and clearly control a ton like Proctor & Gamble and Apple combined into a company that controls information globally. Man I could rant endlessly about this and would love to chop it up in a discussion podcast but this comment is already long and I tapped it all out letter by letter on my iPad. Nice recap and analysis. Oh last note: when Dylan is in his old van after his failed interview at Great Doors you can definitely here the OLD iPhone lock/unlock sound which is a distinct nod to Apple (the creators of the show) as well as throwing a wrench in the time theories ans chronology especially matched up against all the old terminal computers and jank cash for clunkers cars parked outside Lumon.

@@MovieFiles fun fact, the Lumon building, aka Bell Works in real life. Was a in development housing that surrounded the building like a circle. We're talking massive though like 4 connected neighborhoods. When this building was chosen as Lumon, it would of been pretty freshly completed. prior, the area was woods and like a dirt lot. So it's a cool parallel to real life. if you worked there you could drive all of 2 min and be in a development where you live without ever really leaving the property.
@KeithA-c8v2 күн бұрын
wasn't a aerial, mark lives in a mountain esq area by season 1's settings. freeze framing and knowing the building in real life. We see the water tower, the entrance road and building. it's only slightly elevated. the water tower in real life stands maybe 100 foot tall or so? in the shot the top of the water tower is only slightly pitched. so marks prob 30 min away up a mountain judging by the pitch.

As someone who worked in the Lumon building in real life for multiple years and while season 2 filmed. It's def surreal to see what parts were used and what was CGI. Something that might be in your next video that was skipped. In the new "intro" marks car is in the icy lake as if he crashed. I wonder if this is foreshadowing about marks wife or him.

I think milkshake firing Dylan was essentially just firing him for biting him (him being the aggressor). It’s not that much of a stretch. For Irv he’s being fired for being a rebellious baddie. That’s why everyone gets a different excuse. They could’ve easily just told everyone “poor performance” lol it’s not like they know what the hell is going on

I just put something else together. they say should i fire them? follow Keir, the painting says "Keir pardons his betrayer's" the painting in season 1 basically jabs at the innies. Even Dillon stepping off the elevator says "I wasn't sure I was coming back" that hints at him being fired. Heli is a weird one, the only subtle nod, is that her music changes stepping on the elevator. if you rewind, we only get to see the clock at dillion and mark's check in and a minute elapses between that time. we don't get to see time at all when Irving or Heli gets in the elevator. While assumed, we don't actually know what time we are watching everyone check into work. it might not be day 1.

I think Helena is alone and yearns for freedom from her duties as an Eagan and likes to see an alternate version of her life while staying loyal to her company. I think it is Helly in the first episode since she showed a lot of empathy with the group, asking about them and if they were okay and noticing what was different. I just think she doesn't want them to know who she is because they wouldn't trust her. She sees her outie as a villain and repulses her for what she did and what her family created. She also seemed genuinely jealous of Mark and his wife, and genuinely angry about not owing their outies shit. If it had been a jealous Helena, she would've pursued Mark and deflected the Gemma topic and made him get back to work or something. I don't know, I just think sending Helena would be too risky. They would know it wasn't Helly and Helena herself knows that. There's also no point in sending her since they're recording everything they do and say.

When Devon talks to Mark in the diner she asks what his “innie meant” confirmed by closed captions but they 100% meant it to sound like “intimate” to add further confusion to the bizarre sexual sibling tension between them. Worth note that in season 1 when Irving is reading the handbook at the party you can clearly read a page that says Kier was the product of incest and that may have been part of his motivation for getting into medications - this is also reflected in the artwork of the man stirring a pot of red liquid as a woman looks on nearby him.
