Severely Damaged Compressor Mounts and Locked Fan Motor

A free dehumidifier in some rather deep states of disrepair. Fortunately everything should be able to be resolved and this will be turned back into the nice piece it once was.

Sad to see this dehumidifier in such poor shape. Hopefully you can get the compressor mounts replaced here soon along with a new fan motor. I would try at least to get the fan blade off of it and try to rebalance it before putting it on the new fan motor. May help save the bearings on the new one. Good thing is though that you have a new bucket that can be used with the other one that you have now and get that one fully operational with a bucket that may work with the automatic shutoff if the spring needs to be adjusted. Nice peice and hopefully you can get it up and going with some repair work.

This one is totally identical to mine! Judging by this unit set to constant drain, this may have fallen off of a table or a work bench. When the compressor kicks when shutting off, it shakes the whole unit. I think that's why it fell off of a table or bench

This was like watching the Flight of the Phoenix, the original one where they had to use shotgun cartridges to start the aircraft engine. One more cartridge left..... You guys should watch the clip of that on KZbin!. Good memories as a kid rewatching that part of the movie over and over.

Those motors can be opened. Twist a flat blade screwdriver in the four points on the edge of one of the end bells where it meets the motor housing. You can see the metal punched and curved in. once you unbend it the end bell can be removed and it can be serviced like any other motor. Back end bell is easiest, and you can tap it apart gently from other end using the shaft. I work on tons of Nutone and WP stuff with this UE/Magnetek style motor and they usually come back to life rather well. Its rarely a lack of lube and roached bearings with them, and more commonly that the oil simply went sticky. To reassemble, use a punch and bend the metal tab things back. You can tap them down a bit as well if end bell is still a bit loose. They are decent motors, Too bad they put them together that way. The Fasco style clips where bad enough on these 3.3s This machine is TOTL with almost every bell and whistle lol. I love continuous fan mode and have wired a few of my machines to run this way. Keeps unit dry, increased accuracy of setpoint in a larger space, and pretty much every basement can handle some extra air circulation, But the biggest thing I've noticed is it stops the short frequent cycles alot of units run. Also just sounds cool to me with the compressor cycling independently. cool unit.

Ah, yes, the sticky green oil. Stuff makes a mess, and it smells pretty strong. These motors also like to chew up their (usually front) thrust washers once the oil gets sticky enough. Regular lubrication of these motors definitely keeps them from getting sticky. These are good motors if maintained, the worst ones are new old stock ones that have been sitting for years. It took me several hours and about 5 times of taking apart my NOS Nutone range hood to get it to work right, I had to replace the oil felt and soak the bushings in brake cleaner. Royal PITA. It's been fine for a few years now, but that was rough at first. It just kept gumming up after an hour or two of use. Thing was locked solid when I started working on it.

Compressor is a Tecumseh AE just like the Carrier Siesta and the White Westinghouse air conditioner. I can't imagine how the compressor mounts were damaged like that but sure enough it still works perfectly sans the fan motor.

@@JordanU Much like the rotaries, some people have claimed the two pole compressors don't last as long as the four pole compressors. While true in theory it hasn't played out. There are many, many two pole compressors that are 50+ years old and still work just fine. The AE is a perfect example. One of the best out there.
