My grandson brought home a severely damaged canoe. lets see if we can save it, and put it in the water again. I did not think it was possible to ever put this thing back on the water.

I just picked up a 17’ Coleman that spent last summer on its side in the heat. We had 42 days of the “100 days of summer” over 100 degrees. So I will be using wood blocking and a heat gun to bring it back into shape. The metal gunwales are riveted, so will drill those out to dispose of the metal. I will rebuild with wood gunwales, seats, and interior blocking. Some previous owner removed the seats and the metal seat supports these plastic canoes had. When I get finished, the canoe will be the center of a trimaran sailboat

Plastic welding kits are junk. I had the same one from Harbor Freight and it failed. Plastic boats are made to be recycled not repaired. Only fiberglass canoes and aluminum canoes can be repaired.

Agreed on the welding kit . It eventually bent from the heat. However repairing the boat was a fun project to do with my grandson . When he first brought it around I look and told him no way. But he talked me into it, and I’m glad he did. Not something I want to do again anytime soon. But there’s still some work to do on this one.

I bought a Scanoe last year in a lot better shape than this one, but it was in need of some welding repairs. Some stainless screen and a milk jug was all that was needed to complete the job. Took the boat out fishing numerous times and had no leaks.
