I just did a Maltese today, that was not quite as bad, but close. Owner did not even know the breed he had! He called it a poodle. I scolded him severely, and he promised to keep up with the grooming. I had another abandoned Lhasa Apso that looked like your Maltese, even worse! Hair was 1 foot long and so matted, he had dreadlocks!!! The owners kept him outside 24/7. His butt had poop on it, and he smelled horrible. He was not fixed either. His natural urges brought him to my house, following my Mini Poodle, and a Maltipoo female I was fostering. Once he was in my yard, I spent 5 hrs shaving him down! Then a bath, did his ears, toes, the works. Then sent him off to Animal Control to be fixed and get his shots. I kept tabs on him as I was going to send him to a rescue, but he looked so good after my shave down, that he was adopted in 4 days. What a good feeling he now has a real home with people who love him. He is a beautiful dog. Thanks for letting me know about #7 blade. I wondered which blade to use for these bad situations. Nice demo, thanks!

they dog should have been taken down with a 10 to avoid pulls like that with a 7 and she shouldn't have kept it in one piece like that should have used scissors to cut the huge blanket in half so as u go further down the back it pulls the belly matting

OMG! Shouldn't that poor dog be sedated?
@14Raine149 жыл бұрын
Sedating a dog can be very risky as they can react to the medication. I'm going to go ahead and say that if this person didn't have the money to bring her dog in earlier they won't have the money for sedatives and a vet clinic groomer. As a groomer who went to school as was certified, I can tell you that we learn about how to take care of these little ones, when to recognize when they need a break or are becoming stressed out. Often times it's much better to get it over with quickly and use a short blade than it would be to sedate a dog at the vets

+14Raine14 Letting the matting get that bad is abuse. I assumed this dog was a rescue, but if the owner brought him in like that, shame on them. I've seen many dogs being groomed in videos, but I've never seen one treated so roughly and in such obvious pain.

+Elizabeth M if you think this is rough you have seen nothing :( I've seen groomers ripe and reef on digs, they are not just whimpering they are full blown crying, biting and trying desperately to get away. This is absolutely neglect, but don't think that this dog is homeless just because he looks this way. I groom dogs who look like this often (they are usually new clients who I have found who can't pay our 75$ shave downs at other places, many are on disability and aren't able to leave their home easily) I had a pair of Tibetan terriers, obviously not a breed you will see often, even more so in brothers ontario, Canada! They came in much like this dog looked, and these people were loaded! They have no excuse for how badly their dogs got. The most often thing I hear is "oh, I felt the, and it didn't feel that bad" but what most owners don't realize is that they are feeling just the top most layer and they think what is under that is their skin, but it is really the pelted fur

It looks like to me this dog was severely neglected. I have never seen a Maltese matted like this. I have had Maltese for 27 yrs. and groom myself now, since my last one was special needs and I could not send to groomer. I had to learn and I enjoy it. People should not get a Maltese unless they are the love of their life and brush and groom them at least once a day. I bath according to coat. some are more oily than others just like people. I want to cut my boy short even though his coat is beautiful. My husband wants him to look like a boy. I have a boy and a girl now. They are from Taiwan with all granddad champs with AKC and Asian lines. They are so beautiful as all my Maltese have been. My pups look like the pups on Maltese Obsession but they are Korean pups.

Why do you call that poor little dog, Animal! Why not clip her with scissors to get the initial hAir down. Where is your heart?!
@ValerieKempen7 жыл бұрын
Using clippers is the safest and least painful option. Using shears to cut matts cuts the skin with the matt and will end up leaving the dog with deep gashes all over its body. As a pet dog groomer I often see pet parents who tried to remove matting at home using scissors. Even with the most patience the dogs end up with cuts from their owners because the matts are taught against the skin. That's why you never scissor matts, only shave as short as necessary to slide under the matts.
