I have 100lb Great Pyrenees. Are there different instructions for dealing with her super thick double coat? Her shedding is like nothing I’ve ever experienced with any other dog!! I just found you today & I’ve watched several of your videos. Let me say I am enormously impressed with the way you explain each step of bathing & deshedding!! I got her from a previous owner, who had her for 2 years & admitted that he had shaved her middle (back & sides) because of the summer heat. She is almost 5 now & her coat is so much thinner there than any other part of her, so much so that she looks sway-backed. I put her on a healthy skin & coat food & added vitamin treats. Our house still looks like it has snowed, even vacuuming daily! I really need advice! I have always taken her to a groomer, but the last visit seems to have been a bad experience for her, so I took her to a pet self wash a couple weeks ago, with help from a friend. I’ll use your methods next time we go, but if there are any tips or different instructions for my big girl, I would love to hear them!!

I must admit that I neglected brushing my ShihTzu for about a week. She got SO matted!! She has a silky coat which mats easily! I saw your other video about using coconut oil and warm water. I had to try it. It was messy, but I'm SO thankful that the mats came out with some work. I didn't have to "cut" any of her coat. Thank you for giving us all this valuable information.

@@alondragonzalez4482 I have a mix and he got the hair of chinese crested powder puff. When I bathe him and brush him, it takes two days for him to look like he hasn't brushed in a month. And yet I'm too stubborn to give him a short cut. I have to brush almost daily and do a big brush out 2-4 times a week and bathe every two weeks because his coat drags absolutely full forest with him from the walks. Thank you so much Amy!!! I have watched lots of grooming channels but decided to try this method because it’s what I had available at home to use. Long story short my Rough Collie got super matted on me after a season she had to be a “yard” dog because of some unforeseen circumstances. I had already gotten astronomical quotes for a full shave down. It took me 1 jar of coconut oil, about 2 hours total time (brushing and bathing) and my Collie looks like she had a profesional groom!!!! She only had 3 mats total that I needed to trim out. The rest of it was easily falling off and brushed out effortlessly with a slicker brush. I wish I could post before and after photos forever grateful! I will watch your other videos to learn to properly care for her coat at home!

Because I live in a relatively small town, finding a groomer that does scissor work for my toy poodle (and not charge me an arm and a leg), I've been doing her grooming myself since I brought her home. She does get matts once in a while, and often I've just cut thru them, thinning the hair, and dematting that way. The silly thing is that sometimes I wear my hair curly, and I keep coconut oil around to help get the matts out of my own hair, but never considered using it on my dog!! Next time I come upon a nasty matt, I WIIL be trying the coconut oil on her!! Thanks for sharing this trick!!

This was so helpful. Everytime I took my Cockapoo into the groomer, if they ran into one mat, they just shaved him...and he has such a beautiful, curly, white/ginger coat...very pretty, so I decided to do the grooming myself, but as I started, I realized, his coat was to think and needed some work to get the clippers through him...and this helped so much. Will work on him tomorrow.

It does work. I was quite surprised, but again it is an oil and it does have really awesome benefits for the dogs coat and skin. Thank you for sharing. It’s great to know that there’s something that actually works to help get the mats out because dogs are going to get them no matter what even if you brush them they may have one or two that you may need to use method if brushing alone doesn’t work. Like I said, I was happy and very surprised that it worked as quickly as it did to help get the mats out, maybe two or three brush through and then I used the comb and it was gone. Now she’s laying on my couch before I give her a path lol it’s a good thing that I have a towel where her spot is on the couch.

This video was GREAT ! My Sr. dog has always hated going to the groomer even when she was a pup, and now that she's older with bad hips, etc..."we" agreed, no more professional grooming because not only does she hate it, now it leaves her limping on her bad joints for the next day twos ! But I was desperate to find out how to thin and get out mats out of my Aussie. Her hair is in bad need of de-matting and thinning in the body area, or perhaps just all the dead hair. This video helped give me basic knowledge, with tools I can get, and I already have the coconut oil ! Thank you so much !!

It is so refreshing to see a groomer that doesn’t want to shear a long haired dog just because it may have a few matts! I have an almost 9 month old GoldenDoodle that has more of the Golden Retriever hair than poodle hair! It is beautiful! Most of it has the “crinkle” look! He is chocolate and his name is Hershey ❤.. He does shed some. I kept him brushed good until I got Covid in early February and then got a sinus infection that I’m just now getting over so his brushing got behind.. plus this is his first spring and the shedding thing and the last 2 to 3 inches of his hair is baby hair! That’s what I want cut off! Not sheared down to an inch or so! I just want the baby hair scissor cut off, detangled/thinned with the detangle tool and shaped back up.. the girl that had been doing him every six weeks really did a bummer on him last grooming because she was leaving that place because they wouldn’t fix stopped drains and she couldn’t groom for 6 weeks and lost a lot of income! She basically only bathed him and blew him out! So now he does have a couple matts between his front legs and under his belly.. cutting belly short is okay! I can’t find a groomer in the Wilmington NC area that scissor cuts!! 🥲🥲.. I give you praise for showing people how to dematt a dog and save his hair!! My neighbor has a doodle and her groomer took his hair down to probably an inch or little more.. even his ears! He has poodle type curly hair..In my opinion she ruined that poor dog and made it look like a street dog! And groomer did it without asking! Again, thank you from the Doodles and a special Thank You from Hershey 🥰🥰🥰🐾🐾🐾🐾
