That was great, love the sounds, back in '97 my colleague and I painted Wester Ranger in BR blue, that was a big job. From the cooler groups at the top to the tumble home and to the battery / fuel covers is about 13 feet and it's 65 feet long, one of us at the top, the other at the bottom to keep the wet edge going. Make sure you go to the loo first, once started, there is no stopping!

That clasd 40 at the start that is named 'Atlantic Conveyor'. This was the name of a British merchant vessel, requisitioned for use by British forces in the 1982 Falklands war. She was hit by two Exocet missiles, and set on fire, whilst transporting helicopters. 12 crew were lost. She sank whilst under tow a couple of days later. I'm glad she was remembered this way. This video is an utter joy to me, Martin. Thank you so much for doing this. My favourite engine on it, is the class 20 in London Transport colours, 'Sherlock Holmes' - what a beautiful beast.

It is always a pleasure to hear a diesel or see the old steam trains driving, delicious and pleasing to the eye. 🥰😍 You may have already been there, but if you haven't heard enough diesel or other very old machines, you can let your heart and your ears enjoy the, ... Internal Fire Museum of power in Wales. There are very old historic machines, volunteers run the place there, ooohhh also awesome to be able to watch and listen wonderful. 🙋🏻‍♀️🥰👍🏻 It's a pleasure to know someone like you, with the same interests, and we'll keep things moving by honoring these by visit them, beautiful places hey Martin.

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to sit back and look at the engines! That looked like a cracking day out on the SVR, well done for capturing a terrific record of your time there. On a side note, I was contracted by BR in 1990 to photograph the transition into private ownership of the railway network and got to record the last of the Hoovers (Class 50) climbing the incline near Honiton, and rapidly became acquainted with the sound of that particular engine from miles off. Not sure if the photography was up to much, as the weather was terrible that week. That’s colour transparency for you: unforgiving.

Great video Martin. You may already know this, but there is a link to the Manchester area on the Severn Valley railway. The paint shop building at Bridgnorth is the old diesel depot building from Heaton Mersey in Stockport which the SVR bought from British Rail in the 70s. Heaton Mersey had a large steam loco shed but when this closed at the end of the 60s, BR built a diesel servicing point which only lasted for about 3 or 4 years before it too was closed. All the best and keep up the great videos.

Guess you could do that all day long without getting tired, can't you ? :-) I'm son of a railway signal engineer and spent a lot time in trains, at stations or even along the track, when accompanying my Dad in the mid-70s. And: nothing beats the sound of a slowly revving up Diesel. When I was a kid in the 60s there were still a few steam locos in daily use. But I didn't find them *that* interesting as Diesel locomotives. And electro-trains ? Well. As fascinating as a vacuum-cleaner ... do their job but lack the aural impression.
