Amazing seeing these dogs at "work". My Corgie likes this video too and I think she's a bit jealous because we don't live on a farm. She paces back and forth yowling at the TV wanting to herd all the dogs or get in on the action! I really enjoy the videos and I appreciate what farmers do every day when I eat my food. Thank you for your hard work!

I like this method to eliminate the rats. I follow your channel from Italy ( sorry for my english) and here to kill rats farmers do a massif use of poison, not always effectively, maybe we should reconsider the role of the terrier in our homes. Thanks wait your other videos :)
@welshwizard8228 жыл бұрын
+giux0x poison kills other wildlife besides the rat, even the rat deserves a quick clean death and dog is best. poison takes days to work, a couple of good dogs will keep the farm clear of rats and much better for the environment. Rats have been kept under control like this for hundreds of years where poison has only been used this last 100 years
@giux0x8 жыл бұрын
you are quite right, however, many have forgotten "the old ways" and watch their dogs just as pets not seeing the potential:).
@welshwizard8227 жыл бұрын
poison is cruel, not as effective as they get used to it if its available all the time. AND it kills other innocent animals which people dont even think about!
@MissesKennedy7 жыл бұрын
True. Poison is bad. Think of other animals that are in danger. Wildlife, beloved pets. There's already too much poison in our soils and everywhere. We're litterally fucked up with poison. Ratting with dogs is natural and highly effective. And much more quick and humane than death by poison. I wish this cool method would be installed on continental Europe, too!

I’ve noticed sometimes the area is very confined and the dogs spend less energy on running after the rats only need to catch them. How is that set up? Is it done by you or by the land owner? Do you get paid from the land owner? How does that work for you?

I don't know that we have "ratters" in New Zealand, at least not that I've heard of, and I just stumbled across one of your videos a few months ago and decided to watch it even tho I didn't think I'd have any interest in it, but I really like them to be honest, your dogs are amazing, very well trained and disciplined and seem to love their job. Very enjoyable to watch and good to see a recent video too as all the others I've seen were older and I was wondering what had happened to you guys. Not too fussed on the go pro though, the clarity is awesome but it's a little harder to watch than the older ones, i guess it has to do with the zoom. Still enjoyable tho. Awesome work guys
@laurencegoodwin37238 жыл бұрын
Actually now that I watch a bit more its probably because the camera man is actively involved in digging and picking up the rats etc so there is a lot of camera movement lol

Now your dogs are brothers & sisters/ same litter?? Second question..... did you train them or was it theirs instincts
@faith1222 Жыл бұрын
for terriers, i think its natural for them, no training needed. In my experience, Our family have had a male Yorkie terrier, we did not train him, but every now and then, dead mice and rats were everywhere, even roaches. It was his hobby/passion. Our dog was very agile, persistent and patient. Maybe the training they needed is to be a professional killer, you know, let go of the rat once fatally injured and proceed with the next prey.

When the big machine came working I saw that you sometimes held your dogs in a circle around the machine and let them go as soon as you spotted a rat, that is one of the safest ways to do this. With dogs running around a machine like can end in incidents. So I think you did a great job in keeping things organized and safe

What exactly kills the rat when the dogs bite them? Do they crush their skulls? Or their lungs/hearts? Or does the shaking somehow make the heart/brain of the rats explode of internal bleeding from the G-forces? They die so quickly, and it's evident that it isn't puncture wounds that kills them.
@rosejames80577 жыл бұрын
Thor Klauson ......The quick shakes snap the spine of the rat for a fast kill.. The dogs learn that the rats bite back, so they kill them as quickly as possible.

Like snap the rats leg so he cant outrun the dogs. The best method to do so is to put the rat in a cloth bag and BANG that bag on a hard surface, or you can manually pull or bend their legs but doing so will can be a bite risk.
