Did u just add frontosa to south American community tank. Both these species have different parameters.. these are soft waters and the fronts are hard water with a min ph of 8.2.. is it really good to mix diff geographic species..
@PrimeTimeAquatics
@PrimeTimeAquatics 6 жыл бұрын
In their natural habitat that is true. However, they were all bred in the same Chicago water and grew up in the same environment (hard water, pH 8.0-8.2). While there are important exceptions, matching the water parameters of many of the common captive bred tropical fish we keep is often unnecessary. In fact, when you go to a local fish store, many make very little effort to adjust water parameters to match the fish's original habitat (imagine how hard that would be for a store with 100s of tanks). Most aren't bred, grown out or kept in water parameters that match their natural habitat. Consistency is often better than achieving water parameters that vary from the water that comes out of your tap.

Hey Jason could you do a species profile on the green terror. We had one given to us from a friend that wanted out of the hobby. Its still small and didnt get along with our dempseys. What would you suggest as a possible tank mate for it its in with just a pleco now that also came with it. And will be rehoused in a 75 gallon on its own.
@PrimeTimeAquatics
@PrimeTimeAquatics 4 жыл бұрын
It can be very difficult to add fish to a tank with a full grown Green Terror that starts out in its own tank alone. CIchlids are usually not an option. You could try large rainbow fish or congo tetras - something big that can't be eaten and hope he leaves them alone?

@Prime Time Aquatics I added 2 red spot severum to a 220 with silver dollars and a turquoise severum. So my question is what do you think on the aggression of the turquoise severum? It won’t stop chasing the red spots. He pushes them into corners and where ever they are they get bullied. They are pretty young
@PrimeTimeAquatics

It really depends on the fish. Sometimes they work it out (especially in a large tank). Other times the fish have to be seperated.

How many Severums can you put in a 125 gallon? And also what would be an appropriate size tank for a pair of turquoise Severums? I need to move them because they keep having babies. They become aggressive and attack their tank mates. Thanks for answering my question about the Red Devils.

Very cool fish BTW! : -) You could put a breeding pair of severums in a 75 on their own if you wanted. For a 125 I think you could probably do 5-6? That would look awesome !

Nice looking tank Jason. I would like to set up a tank with Severums and Geophagus. My question is about substrate. I have read that Geophagus should be on sand. I like the look of the small pebbles in this tank. What’s your opinion?
@PrimeTimeAquatics

When I am setting up a tank from scratch for geophagus I use sand. One thing you could consider is a mix when the center of the tank has gravel and it gradually moves into sand.

@PrimeTimeAquatics

Shrimpy Gamingy My favorite is probably the red shoulder severum. I’ve had them together before. Usually it’s the blood parrot that chases the severum. In a larger tank it can work, but you never can be 100% certain.

@@PrimeTimeAquatics I've got a german with 6 4-5" geophagus topajos and a small school of tetra's. Usually he's pretty chill but if someone comes to close to him he slowly comes for them and they and they just get out of the way, no harm done. But I feed with sinking pellets and if I dump them all in the same spot he guards them and wont let anyone eat. I feed in a few spots now and it solves the issue but he definitely has the most temperament in my tank.
